So big thumbs up to you, great video. I have IBKR but have been using the mobile app on my iPad as my computer bit it. This is the video I needed today. Perfect info. Not sure if it was mentioned, but as I'm messing around with the take profit and stop loss, if the "attach to parent order" is checked for take profit then you can't drag it. If left unchecked then it allows you to drag it.

Hi, awesome content. I am new to TWS and I have difficulties finding where my SL/TP prices are after placing a trade. I am a swing trader and I only place 2-3 trades per day. After 10 days I forget what I did 9 days ago (where my SL/TP are price-wise regarding to a stock). I can only see, edit, and manage trades I did today, but not those in the past couple of days. I tried everywhere, but it only displays unrealized proft, position, mkt val, avg px, change, etc, but not where I entered and what my SL/TP range is for that specific trade. Thanks in advance, and keep making awesome videos.

I have just found this channel and am happy to say you make it understandable. I was looking for something on a 'trailing take profit' order. Although a bracket order is similar it is not the same. I wonder if this it is possible in IB, potentially a conditional order or something I have yet to find. Trying to stretch my knowledge and your videos help, thanks. If possible let me know if or how a 'trailing take profit' can be done.

The best explanation of the net !! Thank you!! In all pro trading software we have a "Size or Qty" field (linked to a hotkey) and another hotkey with all the buy or sell parameters and transmit action integrated. So according to stock price we set the shares qty. first and we wait. When ready, we press the buy or sell hotkey to place the order (a single action). Presets values on TWS are not a fast way. Can we do the same on TWS?

Yes they do support that but sometimes it can activate their fractional share trading system. Test it out beforehand.

Question: when the profit taker gets triggered for the full amount of shares you purchased, is the stop immediately cancelled. Likewise if the stop loss is triggered, does the platform automatically cancel the profit taker sell order. This is important to know. If one does not cancel the other the you are left with an open sell order.

Yes, the opposing order should be cancelled. To make sure this is the case, you can check if they are in the same OCO group. The way it was shown in this video was a basic way but you can watch one of our newer videos to see this in action. It is very important to make sure the attached stop and target are OCO, and that they are server side even before the parent order is filled. Some futures trading services still do not have the second feature which is a safety risk.

When my bracket order gets triggered (I'm using a stop-limit order) it sometimes asks me to 'transmit' the stop-loss on the bracket after I'm in the trade. Any idea why this is happening?...it seems it should automatically transmit it for me as timing is critical. Great video!

Well normally your stop won't get hit as soon as you're in a trade unless it's very close. I know what you mean, I think it's the warning about the price management algo. You can check a box to not display it in the future.

Sometimes the scale and adjustable stop features disappear depending on what you have in the + or - amounts in the boxes for your take profit or stop. Try changing those numbers, if you have a - make it a +, also change between %, ticks and amt. Not all of them work with the scale feature. See if that works, cheers.

Thanks for the quide! :) Let's say I want to buy a stock at 5$. Set my SL for 4,5$- Submit,bought it. When the stock goes up can you modify this SL limit upside? from 4,5$ to 4,8$ or 5,2$? Or is it fixed for 4,5$ you set it previously? Sounds a stupid question but I haven't got a chance to make an SL order on the platform so far. Thanks in advance! :DD

Thanks for the question. I have found there is issues with the current bracket order management in TWS. I would not recommend it for advanced trade management. Apart from choosing to use a different execution platform. The best way to do this is to submit a new stop order and move that one as the market moves in your favor. If you wanted the original stop order to trail, it needs to be a trailing stop but that is not always ideal during some market conditions. I hope it helped.

That would be practical but I don't know if it's possible. The only alerts that are possible are the ones that pop up when you cue an alert. Try and find one that is close to what you just described but don't count on it being there either. TWS is dinosaur tech and they don't add intuitive features like that.

Hi VT. I'm new to Options trading and the TWS platform. Everyone always talks about setting up defined risk trades (which I agree is advisable). However, if you're able to set a stop loss is it still necessary to do so? Let's use a Put Credit Spread as an example - in a case like this, the premium you take in from selling a Put is substantially reduced by the Put you buy to hedge your losses. By setting up a stop loss could you simply forego having to buy a Put and thereby keep all of the premium you collected from selling the Put? Do they essentially do the same thing or is there still a fundamental difference between using a Stop Loss and buying a Put to hedge losses? I hope this makes sense...

yes bro You can use Quote Monitor and set up your hotkeys to enter and exit a trade... Personally I use Book trader In the IB... But i would definitely recommend Using quote monitor... There is a great video that Verrillo have made on Quote monitor you can have a look over and see if you like that

Drag them into a quote monitor and you can get a good feel for the contracts and execute orders easily

It is possible however not exactly user friendly. You need to create two separate orders and then make them part of the same OCA group. To do this add the OCA group column to your quote monitor.

I just got TWS and your videos have been incredibly helpful, so thank you man. My question is about the adjustable stop. I put in the bracket order and it works fine. But when I add the adjustable stop as well it keeps saying "error invalid trigger price." My profit taking price is 2%, my stop is 1% and I have the trigger price to be 1% from the parent order. Have you ever experienced this?

I don't think it's possible to change the order type after it's been submitted. One way would be to configure this in your bracket order to start with. I.E your stop is a trailing stop limit order. Another way is to simply do it manually and submit new orders as the market moves.

Great video! So there is no way to have a scale order show up and be modifiable on the chart (ChartTrader)? Lets say I buy 500 shares, sell 400 at my target (ChartTrader Price) and leave remaining 100 as a runner which would sell at another ChartTrader price. Also, will the stop loss order automatically adjust when the first target is reached?

Correct the scale orders in TWS are not very flexible once they have been sent. You can modify them, it is shown in this video in detail. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WSdmboGM_Zg.html Yes the stop will adjust to the remaining position quantity when it is part of the same OCA group as the scale target order.

It is possible to place a stop without having it attached by using another tool like booktrader to click on the desired price to place a stop.

Can you add bracket order - profit taker and stop limit on existing position. That is if i already have bought an option say for $1.00, can i put a stop loss at $0.75 and limt sell at $1.50

You can set each manually obviously but they aren't tied to that order. SO you'll have to manage each of those orders when one gets triggered. Meaning, cancel the other otherwise you'll be in the trade on the opposite side if it goes the other direction since the system will not cancel it for you.

Hi, thanks for the great content, very useful. I am still new to IB; question: trying to create a Button for a buy order with brackets attached. Is setting the fields for "Stop-limit price" and "Adjusted Stop Limit Price" working for you if "Auto-Attach Stop Type" field is set to "Adjustable Stop"? I keep getting an "Unsupported scale order" message when I transmit the order; I am not using any scaling for profit taking; of course if I do it exactly the way you showed in the video (without setting "Stop-limit price" and "Adjusted Stop Limit Price" ) then I won't get that error message. Can't figure out what's going on; In other words, you explained how to do the adjusted stop for a "Market" order but I wanted it to be for a "Limit" order. any idea? Regards

Very nice video and very helpful. But I still have some questions. Maybe you can help me. First: By using Presets I only have to config it ones. Becaus for Buy/Sell it gets automatically changed. For Hotkeys I have to define the Buy AND Sell Hotkey. My problem ist, for the Sell Hotkey the Checkbox "apply offset to parent" dont appear. No chance what ever I choose. NExt question: When the bracket Order is in the software (but not filled) I can move the hole bracket order. Is it possible, when the position is filled, after this I can move the Stop an the Take Profit? Thanks very much.

Apply offset only appears if you are using "AMT" in the bracket order configuration. If you select a % amount it will not work for some reason. This is on their end to fix. 2. It may be possible depending on how the bracket was configured, please test it in a demo environment to see how it behaves. If you need additional help don't hesitate to write back, although I can't guarantee a fast answer.

But when I use the normal OrderEntry window which you describe in Minute 3:20, then I can grab the Stop and Take Profit lines in the chart even when the order was filled. Do you know this problem? Hi again Verrillo - awesome video! :) Do you know what I need to turn on to have "scale fields" for my take profit tab at 6:45 , I don't have them :O If you have time for another question, Is there a way that I could create a separate hotkey for scalping profit on my trade rather than have it in presets? - My idea would be to let's say I have a hotkey to buy 500 shares at a limit bid price and to have then another hotkey that sells half the size of my current shares for a limit bid price again, so I can use that slowly to scale out on profit 2x and the last 25% of my shares would be able to just run up however high it takes with the risk of losing money at that point is reduced to nothing. I tried to figure out myself but it seems it can't be programmed with parental order to hotkeys. In relation to this concept: if I set to sell "available" shares at a limit price for a hotkey, would I be able to sell the remaining 25% of my shares with that, or it would basically sell my shares plus short sell the available amount I can have with my funds and margins? :D Thank you for the vids!

Hi the reason scale fields doesn't appear is when you have limit order parameters not set to "AMT". If set to percent the scale fields don't appear. In my opinion the easiest way to do what you're saying in the second question is have 2-4 buttons maximum. Limit order bid, limit order offer, and two keys that can move your limit price up and down and another that can change the size of the order if you need to. You set size increments in order presets. Keep it simple, bids and offers.

Interesting just a regular stop-loss you can't move it above the parent order price. I use a Trailing Stop / Stop-Limit by default and it will adjust as the stock move ups but it's not exactly the same thing. Do you know if there is something similar to Adjustment Stop that triggers and changes the Trailing Stop / Stop-Limit amount?

The basic function of that command is "buy". It will only show buy stop with stop when you've configured the details of the key to perform that function. Which is why in my configured shortcuts it shows the detail "BUY STP with STOP".

You can use a hotkey called increase or decrease limit price. If the order is bracketed they should all move. I find this way very slow which is why I use 1 click trading on a DOM.

You made a great video. Do you know how to set up a bracket order as you describe here, and attach it to a Market On Close order. The intention is to have a MOC, so that if neither of the bracket orders are elected the MOC exits the position, but if one of the bracket orders is elected, then the MOC order is canceled.

Hello Verrillo, thanks for very useful videos! I am a beginner. Sorry if it had been asked before, but once the order is filled, there is no way to add the "take profit" or "stop loss" unless done at the beginning. I am a bit puzzled here because I cannot even find a good way to enter my stop via submitting an independent stop or limit orders as the limit price always needs to be less than the current price for SELL and more than the current price for BUY, so if, for example, I entered original BUY order at the price 2, the current price is 2,5 and I want to take profit at the price 3, I am not able to set this up via the limit or stop SELL order. Such order will fill imediately because the price 3 is above 2,5 and not below. So my understading is that setting a stop loss or take profit for already filled order will work only if the current price is above the desired sell price or below the desired buy price. Is there any workaround for this or a person always needs to wait until the price moves in a needed direction?

It sounds as if you do not have a good enough understanding of how limit and stop orders work. If you submit a limit sell order at a price above the last traded price it will sit on the order book and trade only when that price is achieved and all orders before you in the queue have traded or pulled away. This is called placing an offer to sell, the same would be if you placed a limit order bid to buy below the current price. Stop orders work differently. A sell stop order will normally be placed below the current market price and will trigger when the stop trigger price has been achieved. You can also fine tune the stop trigger method but normally the default is fine. So if you bought at 2 and wanted to exit at 1 in the case of an emergency. You place your sell stop at 1 and when 1 is traded, it will send a market sell order to close that position. I hope that gave you a bit of context around how those orders work, if you need additional help feel free to answer back.

Can you please help me about how to place an OCO order in TWS Mosaic for an EXISTING share in my portfolio. Taking into account the same example as above: I bought at 2. It is already in my portfolio. Later on I want to sell if the price falls to 1 and also if the price rises to 3. I mean I want to take profit at 3 and stop loss at 1. How can I place these orders at the same time for an existing share in my portfolio? When I start filling the OCO box with two sell options at 1 and at 3 and click submit I receive a message saying that I can not short this share because I do not have margin account. I dont want to short it just to want to sell either if it drops to a certain price or rises to another certain prise. Only one of them will be executed and the other cancelled. But the system doesn't allow. Your answer will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Im looking at configuring a hotkey to take partial profits (i.e. 50% of shares) after I have entered a trade. Why does IBKR make this so hard? I want to be able to take partial profits during the trade because sometimes you wont know exactly when to do so until you're in the trade and getting a feel of price action. These hotkeys are only based on a premise of a pre-determined (static) levels, but each trade will be different so is there a way around that? Das Trader has a simple hotkey to scale you out based on percentage - can you do that on IBKR?

Good question. In the case of an attached stop or OCO bracket (attached stop and targets), neither of these orders are present on the exchange until the parent order has filled. So if you never had an open position, there is no risk of a stop loss order getting triggered unless it was a completely separate order. If you submitted the stop loss separate from your parent order it will not be attached and that stop order will be active and trade if it is breached.

You can do this by creating both orders individually and then making them a part of the same OCO group. I covered this in a video I did about stop orders in TWS.

Hi Any ideas (if even possible in TWS or Mosaic) of how I can set up multiple short Iron Condors, with same expiry (always either 1 or 0DTE) on US indices (SPX, RUT, NDX, QQQ, IWM, etc) using OCO? I've seen how to do this with just stocks, using TWS or Mosaic (there's a couple of IBKR training videos on this) but can' t seem to easily do this with iron condors. For money mgmt reasons, I only want to trade a certain $ amount per expiry period, (would be OK to spread over multiple IC's but limit to total $ amount) but I need to set up multiple IC trades as, of course, they all won't execute. I set up all my IC trades using either strategy builder or options trades windows as it's easiest to create IC's this way and US exchanges guarantee that trade will execute as an IC, NOT by individual legs. Problem is only way to transfer this info to an IBKR order entry screen seems to be using "add to watch list". Very clunky. Any ideas? I'm happy to answer further questions to clarify.......TIA,

Keep trying different things. There are a number of glitches that can appear when creating bracket orders in TWS, some have been fixed but not all. Make sure you are testing this in a demo environment to make sure it works before using it in a live account.

Awesome. I did not know adjustable stops were a thing. How do you attach a stop order to an existing take profit order? It appears when I right-click on a order and hit 'attach stop' they are linked, but the relative order does not cancel when one is hit. Maybe that's a glitch in the paper account version?

Like many other things in this platform, it would take some time to configure so I suggest playing with the hotkey menu to see if you can work in a trailing stop or something similar. Make sure you do it in the demo account since you will often encounter error messages. Cheers.

Sometimes the hotkeys can mess up if they are not configured correctly. You would have to keep playing with it, trying different settings until it works properly. If you still can't get it send me an email I could try to help.

Thanks for the great videos and content. I have a specific question. When I place a buy order I add a stop loss bracket and when I am in the trade I took some partial. Is there a way to set TWS to change the stop loss quantity accordingly after I took a partial? Can't figure it out. Now I am always adjusting my stop loss share quantity manually after every partial I take. It really slows me down. Thanks!

Hmm that is a good question. I think if the stop and target are always in the same OCO group the size will change as you want it to. Thing is if you put in a separate order to take profit, your previous stop will not change and you will have to change it manually. When you create a bracket order they are connected with OCO, to connect 2 orders to OCO just select both orders and add them to the same OCO group.

TWS is driving me crazy. When I try to edit the fields in the Profit-taker or Attached Stop Order, I can't type in any values into any of the fields. So for example, I can select Trailing Limit for the stop type, BookTrader Price for the Stop Price, but then I can't enter a value in the box to specify the amount by which to trail. It's currently set to -1.00 amt, but when I make a trade, it sets the trailing stop to 7% of the underlying value. Seriously, WTF is going on here???

can you manually drag an icon on the right side of the screen to move your stoploss up or down? That way you could adjust it without putting in number..you would just move the bar up ect it looks like you touched opon this very briefly..i think you used hot keys..

HI @VerilloTrading, 1) On Chart Trader, when a Bracket Order is by default attached on a Buy or Sell Order, the Graph adjusts and squishes making it hard to read especially with a large profit take target. Anyway to get around this? 2) How do you attach a Bracket Order for an open position? IS it somewhere along the line to use OCA Group and making multiple orders in a OCA Grouping? Thanks

Hi, there is no way around the first thing. The chart adjusts to be able to see where your order is. If your order is way above price then it will squish the chart to be able to include the order, it's annoying. 2. Exactly you create the two orders then put them in the same OCA group. Cheers.

@@VerrilloTrading Thank you! I noticed behavior here. I have Order Presets for MES, MNQ, ES, NQ as tickers under the Futures preset area. I use Chart Trader 1) If I set Offset to Parent for Profit Take and Stop Loss (keep in mind I have a hot key to add the bracket order and not auto), It adds the bracket order, But I cannot adjust the price of the stop loss and profit take order independently by hovering the mouse over the order line on the Chart and scrolling the mouse, nor use the up/down key (the setting is set such that the price is adjusted when using up/down). 2) If I turn off Offset to Parent, then it seems to work and I am able to adjust the orders independently as well as move the entire bracket orders (all 3 orders) together. Is the 1) as per your explanation, it will offset the stop orders and profit takes based on where the order FILLS as oppose to 2) is where originally set the original order? For 1) if it's filled, is it possible to change that offset using the up/down or mouse wheel AFTER it fills? Would you use 1) or 2) , pro cons? Thank you in advance.

Great video! But when I try to create a hotkey in the chart with the Buy configuration, the Target Order section only shows me "Auto-attach order type" and nothing underneath it. In your case it shows "Limit Price, scale fields" Why is that? Do I have to change something in the configuration?

You can't use a market order after hours on some asset classes like stocks if I remember correctly. They only allow Stop Limit. You can set a far away Limit Price and it's essentially the same thing.

You can adjust it manually by changing the order price or use an adjustable stop in which case you would need to make a trigger price that tells the system when to move your order. It's a bit annoying to be honest.
