I wore a CGM for 2 weeks. The biggest surprise was how bread, cheese, and tomato sauce had limited effects on there own, but combine them into pizza and it gave me a massive 4 hr glucose spike.
After the spike in blood sugar mine always comes down too much and I have problems with that. Yesterday I had pizza as the last meal and had terrible sleep and had low blood sugar during the night cause I noticed myself sweating which only happens whe my blood glucose goes below baseline. Also I have noticed pasta with tomato sauce is not great for my productivity I don't feel good on it . Def theres something to it tomato and carbs maybe because tomato is sweet and also acidic so the carbs get absorbed even faster. I don't think cheese has anything to do with it. I could bet if you double or triple the amount of cheese in a pizza the spike would be limited.
Nice video, I have been using the FreeStyle libre sensor with Nightrider Blucon. It allows me to read my blood glucose without having to prick fingers. I can see exactly the state of my blood levels. It provides a clear picture of how food and exercise affect glucose values which helps me to control my diabetes a lot better.
I wore a continuous glucose monitor to check my levels and was surprise that my blood sugar was going into the red low zone sometimes during sleep. Which was explaining why I was waking up in a sweat and feeling anxious in the middle of the night. Maybe a walk after dinner and a few nuts before bed will help. And interestingly the only time it spiked high was after eating homemade leek potato soup!
I have been wearing CGM for a couple days (not diabetic, but just curious) and this is happening to me at night too. I have been working out a lot. I was wondering if somehow my muscles are still grabbing glucose out of the blood during the evening.
My Dr tried to prescribe "Ozempic" (or similar) to me in Aug- I asked for a CGM. They told me know- even though I was now type 2 -- because of insurance. Took me from Aug to Mar to finally call back and request again- they agreed once I made it clear I would pay out of pocket. Why couldn't they have just explained that before. 8 days with it - and I already went from numbers above 200 - to numbers all staying below 180 and improving every day - even seeing numbers as long as 128-130s which I haven't seen in months. Seeing the sleep, ,the graphs, the response in real time is so helpful and motivating. It feels more genuine too then just being told to lose weight- this is truly about my health and how my body responds- not just eliminating all "carbs" because they said so, but finding which ones my body can and can't handle, and also not focusing on the exterior visual "weight" which triggers binges and depression etc. Wish I saw this back in Aug.
Tim I’ve followed your diet! I won little biggest loser contests every time about 4 of them, needless to say they never asked me to join the contest again Lol!! I’m on the IF and slight keto kick right now!! I feel amazing . I’m 58
Tims language abilities (among lots of other) never cease to amaze me… being a native chinese speaker (albeit i wouldnt say im fluent anymore) i know of the chinese proverb but couldnt recall. The fact that he leaned chinese for less than a few years over 20 years ago and still be able to speak of a proverb like this is amazing.
If you take the walk with your partner, friend or children, you also highly improve your relationships. But walking on your own is also delicious and zen. I walk an hour and a half everyday.
Sorry but after eating a lot, your bs not spiking hard is usually due to a big insulin dump. But damage is gradually being done anyway. Notably by fattening the liver and making your muscles more insulin resistant.
I was researching if the Levels CGM monitor is worth it, then I came across this video. Huge Time Ferriss fan btw! For those interested in learning more about the Chinese proverb, these are the characters "饭后百步走,活到九十九“. Then after some digging, I found out Sun Simiao (of course he has a wikipage: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Simiao), a Chinese physician and writer of the Sui and Tang dynasty, first wrote about this in his book 《千金翼方》Qian Jin Yi Fang ("Supplement to the Formulas of a Thousand Gold Worth"). In the book, he writes "“平日点心饭后,出门庭行五六十步,中食后,行一二百步,缓缓行,勿令气急", which roughly translates to "After each snack/small bite, walk 50 to 60 steps outside; after lunch / mid day meal (which is probably the main meal back then), walk 100 - 200 steps, walk slowly, don't get out of breath." Hope this helps.
