thank you so much! can't believe you can't find the very basics anywhere! I was blowing on the plate for 10 minutes before I realized I had it in backwards! Thank you so much!
Tried different tutorial videos your made it 100x easier! Thank you sir. Nobody else properly explained how to properly position it in your mouth to create a sound. Just roof of mouth and add pressure from tongue naturally with light pressure
Great video. Thank you. I went from not being able to make a noise to driving my cats and dog crazy in a matter of a few seconds with you this great tutorial.
I'm terrible with Rocky mountain calls I got three of them, but decent with the white and black Phelps for some reason. But this video got me bugling in no time. This video gets you started with the right fundamentals and fast tracks you in the right direction
I’ve never been able to use a mouth call. I watch this video and went bought the mint master tone. I definitely need to work on it but I can make a few sounds, more than I’ve been able to in the past. Thanks for the video and great products. I can’t wait to use this next year chasing elk with my recurve.
Thanks, Rockie! I was having trouble using my diaphragms and with in a few minutes, I was able to make noise. Now I can practice over the next few months and get better.
I wish their was some kind or pic to show how exactly in the mouth the call goes. I been trying to figure this out for months and all I been able to do is the odd weird sound here and there.
awesome instructional best out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best way to care for diaphragm call is to rinse in water after use. can use tap water at home or running water in the mountains. just rinse, shake off the excess water and let dry away from sunlight or heat. when finished for the season best to rinse, dry and place in cool, dark place like refrigerator. we have a call case pouch that works good for this.
hey, I have a quick and dumb question...how do you clean these, or periodically wash them? I can only imagine how much bacteria gets on them being in your mouth?
I'm about to find out I'm not giving up and I'm not taking my dentures out so hopefully I get it. Did you ever get it down? Is it possible with dentures?
Just started today I can make the low tones great and I can get the high tones ok but they sound like a damn cat instead of a cow call lol But i just started hopefully it will get better. Anybody have any tips I'll take them.....
Where exactly on the roof of your mouth do you place the diaphragm call? On the soft palate part in the back? Or on the hard palate part that is probably the foreword-most 1/3rd of your mouth roof? I watched other vids and they say the round part has to "seal" against the roof of your mouth. How the heck do you get them to do that? Just got this mouth call howler pack which also has that raised dome one in it. Which sounds like you design it apparently. I'm wondering if I don't need the "Large" size you refer to in this vid? I can NOT get these things to stay up on the roof on my mouth AT ALL. Is your tongue supposed to be holding it against the roof of your mouth the whole time or something?
Yes it does fit on the front part of your mouth with the raised dome facing upward. You will have to use you tongue to help hold it in place. If you are trying to make the sounds of a coyote howling will need to engage the latex with your tongue while you huff air past it by making the sound of Hut Hut Hut
Not long after watch your vid and that other one... I finally got it. Man... that's a workout for your tongue having to hold the thing up against the roof of your mouth the whole time its in there! Previous experience playing Clarinet as a kid proved helpful once I figured out initial placement. Can almost make it sound like a Saxophone instrument.
Yeah I gought the smalls and loved them. Then I lost my white one so bought another. Had no idea there were different sizes and got a large. I hated it. Made sure I got a small after that haha
Hey Ernie, sorry for the late reply. Be sure to check out our call sizing chart we released to help you with choosing the right diaphragm for you: buglingbull.com/call-selection-chart/
Something that I have had a hard time finding answers to is about diaphragm longjevity. I practice a lot while driving for work, and seem to go through a lot of diaphragms. How long would a typical diaphragm last during two weeks of lots of bugling.?
It really depends on the individual. Some find that diaphragms have a shorter life span, and that is more common with those who blow harder than others. Others have reported their diaphragms lasting for months, even years. I personally have diaphragms I've used over several seasons, but proper care and using tongue pressure rather than air pressure are keys to the longevity of a diaphragm. I've also blown several out within a week by not regulating air pressure or taking proper care of them.
Mindy, it sounds like you are putting to much pressure against the diaphragm,. Try to roll your tongue up against the diaphragm and start with not much pressure, you can adjust the pressure by opening and closing your mouth, Good Luck.
Dan We have found that if the call fits the roof of your mouth correctly your teeth really play no part in it. You need to experiment with the width of the calls to determine which size fits you best. We offer them in large, medium and small to hopefully insure that one of those 3 will fit your mouth.
