In this video, I show you how to use a dolly up the stairs. If you want to carry something large and heavy up a staircase, then a dolly might be the perfect answer for you. They are easy to operate and will allow you to carry heavy loads up and down stairs. With that being said, bringing an object up the stairs safely is something that requires some instruction and practice, and I show you exactly how to do it in this video!

Straining and groaning are a must when lifting anything more than 10 lbs.

Some dollys have Teflon stair climbing rails built into the frame to help slide objects up stairs. Electric dolly’s have assist motors that climb stairs. Great show and tell - thank you.

It appears easy to watch and understand the idea. But it wasn't when I tried lifting up a washing machine of ~80kg. When I started pulling up I felt like the wheels created a rock blockage against the steps and hence wasn't able to move up at all. I sought the help of a person to slightly lift it up and then I was able to pull it up across the stair. This way I managed to lift to second floor.

Same for me exactly

@TG-fq6vy what I can say is if you can't comfortably squat the weight of the load, you're unlikely to be able to take it up steps by yourself. But if you consider the stairs as a plane between the lowest and highest points, with bumps to traverse, its a bit easier to understand how the angle you're pulling at changes the amount of force needed to climb the step. For an 80kg load, its 80kg straight up. At a slight angle towards the step being climbed, it reduces a bit. It continues to reduce til the point where the center of gravity is past the step, then it increases again. If the COG is well past the edge of the step, it can take more than 200kg of pulling force to lift that 80kg.

I’ve been bringing laundry up the stairs in a cart the same way for years. Learn to take one step at a time, there’s no need to rush. 😉

This is only applicable as long as the item you're moving isn't taller than the dolly.
@Cheesus-Sliced

Only if you're not tall/strong enough to manage the load. The perpendicular handle is plenty big enough to be the only thing you hold.

Don’t do it. Hire professionals. Think of an aching back for months after the event.
