Thanks for the demo. I'm fixing to pull the trigger on a 2013 M6040 as soon as the salesman calls back saying it's here. Never having used anything more advanced than an 8/2 tractor tranny I needed educated on how to work it when I go have a look. Same engine/ trans as the M6060 with a bit less smog control on it. I'm an above knee amputee on my clutch leg for the past 20 years and if I didn't find something that would allow me to clutch less when plucking and loading hay rolls I wasn't gonna be doing this much longer. A drive like this will be a Godsend.

I need a touch bigger tractor and am unsure if I will be happy with shuttle shift for all the stop and go, especially for stuff like loading hay. Thanks!

Great video I have a Kubota M5040 HYD shuttle shift I love it , don't like hydrostatic tractors . I used to run big loaders and they we're HYD shuttle shift. When you are bush hogging it's sweet backing to get the corners. Like you I pause shifting forward to reverse . When I park mine I set my booby traps , with 7 things so it wont crack are move all from the seat You probably do the same thing to slow folks down are keep them from taking it if they don't know what they are doing. Not going to tell the secret Thanks for showing folks about this transmission . Hope you are having a good week end.

I had a surgery, and used my clutch on my M7060, and got tendonitis and could not walk on my leg. I still had to work, and I finally figured that I could change gears while in neutral. I don't have to use the clutch. But travel shifting is a bit complicated. I can shift on the shuttle, which I didn't know could be done, and not a noticeable difference, other than you slow down a but faster.

Ben, I really appreciate that video. I was one of the ones asking about how they work. I had no idea how those work. Like you I have to start up on some steep hills and having the ability to not grind going from low to high while moving is an awesome feature. I currently have a M4700 with 4x4x4 trans and a L4701 hydro. It was the first of many hydros that was really quite and it has the cruise lever. If you are doing nothing but back and forth loader work I really wonder which trans would hold up over time. Agreed your trans would be good for me but having almost been run over by a 801 that popped out of gear on a hill that park feature on the 12 speed would be really nice. I would add Kubota in the title and I would really be surprised if this video does not blow up your channel subscriptions. Thanks again!

You done a really good job at explaining the tractor hydraulic shuttle, i have the same tractor as you know, and the only two things I dislike or would change if I could are in this order...Parking Brake/Lever these same tractors are sold in England and have an actual E brake on them....I have tried to get the parts list and possibly install one but have had no luck.....and the 2nd thing I might?? do different is a cab.....but the parking brake lever is the only actual dislike I have with mine and it all just comes down to safety sometimes my dad or uncle will operate it and i have to remind them they cannot just turn it off and get off because it will roll........ without hydraulic flowing to the transmission.....if Kubota, would just let us get the parts they put on the England bound models and I would consider the upgrade...It would be a lot cheaper than the 12 speed upgrade now days......

How do you operate your engine speed when you are going F/R often like for loader work? Do you set your rpms high using the hand throttle and then use the shuttle like normal (to give your loader good cycling speeds) or do you use the foot throttle and idle it down before you change directions? Ive tried both ways and not sure which way I prefer. I do feel like if I use the foot throttle, I dont run the tractor hard enough and it wants to regen more. Same question but for doing something like brush hogging a tight area? Do you run the hand throttle up to get pto rpms where you want and then use the shuttle or do you use the foot and let off throttle when changing directions? I feel like the cutter likes the constant high rpms but hard to tell if the tractor likes taking off at 2000+ rpms. I do hesitate in neutral and apply the brake before engaging the opposite direction.
@khtractors
@khtractors Год назад
With PTO operations always set the rpm with the hand throttle. For loader work I do both. It all depends on the situation I’m in. That for watching!

@khtractors
@khtractors Год назад
I’m not sure of the price difference but the M series will seriously out perform MX. The M also has a power pin selection on the loader that increases the lift strength considerably. Shuttle is easy to use plus you get more power to the ground.

Thanks Ben! I also requested this and it was very helpful! Initially, I was thinking I had to adjust the throttle, as you would in a car or truck, to not stall the machine. Looks like there's plenty of torque to not worry about that.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 2 года назад
If you drive a car or pickup properly you don't need throttle to take off either, nobody drives them that way though which is why you see burned up clutches at 50k or less, that and people riding the clutch, resting their foot on the clutch pedal, using the clutch to hold them on a hill, downshifting, etc...all that stuff contrary to it seeming to be cool wears out the clutch pretty quickly. You can start a car from a stop even on a hill without applying throttle, the trick is using the parking brake to hold you on the hill while you release the clutch and the parking brake simultaneously.

Ben, great job covering the subject. I have never used a hydro/shuttle type transmission but, after your video, that looks like one sweet design. I too would not like the lack of a parking break. I’m surprised in this day and age the the attorneys that type of design. 😎 As always, thanks for bringing us along.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 2 года назад
It has a parking brake, he shows it at the 12:56 mark. My BX2680 is the same thing, you have to apply the parking brake yourself, just like most cars out there, maybe the new ones and all the electronic crap has an auto-parking brake, but the M6060 in this video does in fact have a parking brake, although he's using it wrong in this video, both brake pedals need to be locked together, otherwise all you are doing is applying the brake on the left wheel, which on a hill might not be enough. Just remember a tractor only has brakes in the rear.
@khtractors

It has a park brake but I don’t trust that without a backup holding feature on hills. Thanks for watching
@MrPabco
@MrPabco 2 года назад
@@khtractors Yes, sorry - I meant it would be nice to have a backup to the parking break, like on a manual transmission one can leave it in 1st gear. Box blade works well when it's on or bucket when it's full. Shouldn't have to trade safety for convenience.

Thanks for sharing Ben. Vary informative. My hydro won't roll on a grade with engine is off. As long as transmission is a range. Only way to roll tractor is to take out of a range position.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 2 года назад
Yeah this seems kind of odd to me with his tractor. The hydraulics for the clutch must be tied into the hydraulics for the rest of the tractor, so when the engine is shut off there's no hydraulic pressure and thus no hydraulic pressure to the clutch leaving the tractor to freewheel as it would essentially be in neutral at that point due to the clutch not being engaged. Seems like a safety issue to me and Kubota should do something to correct that design flaw. Many people that drive manual transmission vehicles don't use the parking brake, so their first thought on a tractor like this is, 1st gear or reverse and walk away...and in fact that won't work with this tractor.

@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 2 года назад
I think this is an example of the hydraulic shuttle, being, the tractor is shut off, there's no more hydraulic pump running to keep the clutch engaged, so essentially the tractor is just in freewheel as soon as you shut if off as the clutch loses its hydraulic pressure and becomes disengaged.
@khtractors

Good explanation. If anyone is interested Vahrenberg Implement has a RU-vid channel with many good videos on tractor features and optional transmissions and shift patterns. I have a Dyna4 on my MF 5455 and I've seen where Massey is offering the 4700 series like your neighbors tractor with a Dyna2. The thing I like about mine is that I can shift through all 16 without the clutch. And I am addicted to having 4 speeds available on the go through either the shuttle leaver or the T-bar. I have the sensitivity switch, but it is almost always set all the way in the least "jerky" position, especially when my green help is in the seat. In the video it does look convincing that the Kubota is in the "sweet spot" and switches directions smoothly. Not always pleased with having only an emergency brake and no parking gear, but then it doesn't hang up under pressure like the quad-range can in my 4230 Deere. But, like you, I prefer having a hydraulic shuttle/manual over a hydro because in my (ignorant) opinion it is less stressful to put it in forward or reverse with a flick of the wrist than having to use your foot and maintain pressure. I have read that the Hydros with a pedal for each direction are more intuitive to operate than the "rocker" style where you tip a single pedal forward or back. I test drove a 5610 MF that had a feature where the clutch is like the brake pedal on an automatic tranny in a car. That would be super nice for round baling and picking up bales. Maybe just me but I almost 100% use the foot clutch for those 2 jobs, even on our flat Iowa terrain; just not confident enough to rely on my reflexes and the de-clutch on the shuttle leaver. As a foot note, I have read that creeper gears can be intended only for extreme low speed PTO work etc. and are not to be used to pull at the draw-bar under load. The gears are small and will strip. No personal experience, but something a buyer should cover with the manufacturer or sales rep before use.

I have a 88 L2850DT and it’s the regular manual version with a dual clutch. Mine is a 4 gear with high/low range and a mechanical shuttle, partially synchronized = synchronized shifting between 3rd and 4th in both ranges. What exactly does this mean? Does it mean that going from 3 to 4 I don’t have to stop?? Or does it mean I can just shift it from 3 to 4 without the clutch?? I assume it means I can shift from 3rd to 4th while moving but I do still have to use the clutch?? Right?? This thing is still clean and well kept, it’s a beast and completely outperforms a Kioti 40hp tractor I assume due to the Kioti being hydrostatic. Mines only 34 hp and runs the 7ft bush hog without breaking a sweat only having to hog twice a year. While the kioti has to do it every 3 weeks or so because it struggles if the field gets to high. It really makes me love my kubota.

Good video Ben, the 7040 of ours had a bulletproof shuttle, but the M5-091 shuttle was a joy to run, really Quick and smooth engagement, 🚜🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
