In this video, I show you how I use a light box to trace reference photos to create simple drawings for botanical painting. I love botanical watercolour painting, but I don't always have the time to create complicated drawing. This is the best beginner's hack for creating easy botanical drawings!

I usually file the tracing paper in case I paint it again, the image in the Watercolor paper gets painted

Yes you can, this method is a method I use so I can refine my drawing further if needed. But you can place the watercolor paper on the light box and a printed image over top and trace right onto the paper if you want to save time

What light box do you use/recommend? I have tried a lot and they were all terrible. X_x It wasn't bright enough, broke easily, or it didn't charge well.. The list goes on. Lol!

Yes if you can lay the page over the light box

You can actually use watercolour paper to trace your drawing…even 300gms

Thanks Veronica, that's good to know. I usually refine my drawing after I trace it, but I bet that would save even more time.

Why are you using such a thin, transparent paper with a light box? Isn't the whole point of a light box that the strong light makes it possible to trace directly onto real "art paper" like watercolor paper, sketch paper etc? 😄

Hi there, I use the tracing paper as I like to refine my drawing and not transfer directly onto watercolor Paper. Sometimes I change my drawing before transferring.
