*Bought as a gift for my son and his second grade son to use on a Pinewood Derby car. Wanted something relatively safe and able to be packed away when not in use. Worked well. **MyBest.Tools** Easy to use and set up. Case provides good storage.*

I am actually an expert with many mag drills. I used to train guys and show them how to properly use these without breaking bits. I drilled thousands of holes in bridge girder webbing, flanges, plates, etc. I had to carry the drill to each beam. Was mostly done outside in the steel plant's yard(Maritime Steel in Dartmouth, NS. Now owned by Irving). It's 25 years later and I doubt I could carry that thing as easily, but back then, man, I was a machine.

Did you have to work outside even in the winter?
@Del-Canada
@Del-Canada 2 года назад
@@nicholasjanssen2175 Hell yeah, most of the work I did was outside. Had to be to work for 6am, and sometimes didn't end my shift until 11pm. Was pretty brutal in the winter.

Interesting to know about welding damaging mag drills thanks

Man, I just bought a gallon of WD40 intending on using it for cutter lube on my new (to me) mag drill. I won’t do that and will instead get some proper cutter fluid. Thank you for that. Definitely a close call avoided👍

Thanks for posting. Using one for a 10 inch pipe, this drills minimum is my wall. Just a 1/8 27 for grease.

It is cool to see the new ones stop the motor if the magnet disconnects. I recently got an old school Black & Decker mag drill. This model predates safety and will keep the motor running if the magnet loses connection. It also weighs about 100 pounds.

A contractor in my company lost yesterday one hand finger with a mag drill. Not completely clear the root cause, but it seems that a rag held by the injured person, used for cleaning, got caught with the drill. Very good video.

Hi Ignacio. That's terrible. We're sorry to hear about that injury, and we hope the contractor is recovering well. You could be right: a rag getting caught in a mag drill could pull a person's hand into the drill bit leading to injury. That's why loose or dangling items, including rags, loose-fitting gloves, jewelry, sleeves, and long hair, should always be removed or held back when using tools with fast moving parts. This is especially the case for drills, where shavings around the drill bit pose a greater risk of snagging loose items. As for a root-cause, we often find injuries related to tool use are a result of inadequate training. Your company may want to evaluate its training program on drill presses to ensure it's properly preparing workers for using these tools safely.

How we can use this machine on ss surface . If we have to drill horizontal
@ASCProcessSystems
@ASCProcessSystems 2 года назад
Hi Shantanu. Good question. Hougan's operator's manual talks about mechanical clamping when the drill is on thin, rough, or uneven surfaces. The method we've seen recommended is to place a piece of 1/2" mild steel on the stainless, clamp it securely, and magnetize the drill to the mild steel. We haven't tested this ourselves so can't say how effective it would be. Be cautious if you decide to go this route.

Hi, Anthony. Yes, the Hougen HMD905 and HMD927S can both accept a 1.25" diameter bit.
