Lauren, I love the way you teach, and I wish I could afford your 7-level course, but just having had a heart attack and diagnosed with lung cancer I cant. I will continue to watch your free videos and maybe I can get the full course in the future. Thank you so much for the free videos as they have helped me as a beginner to see where to focus my practice..
I have been teaching all my life, 40 years in various schools and I have seen a heck of a lot of teaching styles, I have been teaching guitar now for over 20 years, and I have worked with many many guitar teachers online, and I swear to God, you are the best of the lot . now that's the best compliment and recommendation I can give you. Lauren Bateman is top of the top drawer.
Lauren I sent a message when I first started A gain I am 80 years old. I have 6 great children I want to play for. Mainly children’s songs . I like your videos and your style of teaching. I took my guitar to the guitar shop in Anderson , S C. To be serviced new strings etc. signed up for some lessons. Really impressed with the shop. I’m not good on a computer using my I pad to look at your videos I am frustrated but understand it’s going to take time plus I have weak. muscle memory. 😀. At some point I’ll try to sign up for your course. Sincerely. Don Baun. Townville SC
Awesome lesson. Chose Em and D6/9 (because I'm still working on Horse With No Name) , got my count of 30 BPM and within minutes I'm waiting to hit the next strum. Within half an hour I'm practicing Horse with no name, including down strum, at 60 BPM. One thing I did find that worked for me, was that rather than following the 4 dots at the top, I focused on the sliding dot and played at the start and end of each "slide".
I am one of your Platinum students. As such I started off using a metronome. It seemed easy and beneficial but got away from it as it appeared to impede any progress whatsoever. I was probably trying to do too much at once (for myself). I plan on trying again as this is the only way I will create any real progress. Thank you for the tips. Now if I can go from the online lesson to the Workbook without losing something of value.
Hi my name is David from West Midlands UK I've been watching your videos and learnt from you and thank you, when playing stand by me, I struggle to get from GM to DM can show me again, thank keep up the good work
@@LaurenBateman yes it did! Thank you so much! Started at 60 BPM from A to Bm. And now I'm at 70 and so excited!! Loving your RU-vid channel from Uruguay 🇺🇾
Lauren I am so excited that I found you! I started guitar 4 years ago in my 50's and have been learning by religiously using one particular online guitar teacher. I still use his lessons and always will, but watching your lessons the past few weeks has helped so much with your genius tips. I love your teaching methods and your awesome personality. Don't ever stop teaching.....and I won't stop watching.
That's ok. Some do that. Use a clock and time yourself for 60s seconds and count. Switch over to the metronome once your chord changes are at least 40.
Aww thanks Maggie. It's even something I over looked. It's thanks to students like you that I still need to be reminded that I can always dig in further.
no problem with speed...timing is thing...Elder at church Spaz on his guitars...2 week warning he gave me to play guitar and piano,,,,stage fright still in..last time played live was Hey Pedro Sit down...5th grade trumpet chair 1...sombreo and all..choked on final note..but it added in my book...bout 300 parents and teachers
Start slow 1manate 50minate to 70 Start with two cord 80 Back to 70 Train for speed Gold=Speed Back to 50=A conterble speed=G,Em,D= DDUD=stay relax=Metronome=Progess
I am wondering how to use the metronome with a strumming pattern like DDU UDU. I hear the clicks and it is causing my U U to shift. I cannot seem to keep my strumming in time. I am going to try a simpler pattern like DDUDD and work on this for a while and then see if I can remove a D and keep it in sync.
Whenever I try to use a metronome, I usually give up in disgust. BUT, this video makes a lot of sense. It really clears up a lot as far as actually using it. I still think it’s the spawn of Satan, but at least now, maybe, we can be friends.
Awesome tips once again. Going to adjust my routine accordingly. Every time I watch one of your videos, things get a bit clearer. It's amazing really!!
I’ve learned the 4 chords on level 2 and in watching your video on how to use a metronome helps my understanding on picking up.speed. Thanks for helping students with all you do. Great video. Greg Moncada
I have tried and given up playing guitar several times over the last 15yrs (I am now in my 50's) but thanks to your videos i have started to learn again and am finding it understandable and not so daunting. I have been given a classical guitar that I have managed to restring and tune (thanks to You Tube) but am wondering if I should invest in a normal acoustic guitar as apparently a classical guitar is harder to learn with, I am wary of going to a shop as I am a salesmans dream customer and would end up buying the most expensive impressive looking guitar (it doesnt help that I have moved to France and dont fluently speak the language so I cant even ask the people for advice) Can you give me any tips with regard to this?
My biggest advice is buy something that's comfortable for your body. I good price range (in US dollars) is $300-$500 for a starter guitar. Better quality and easier to play. I like Ibanez, Martin, Taylor, Seagull, Crafter.
@@LaurenBateman Day 12: Comfortably switch at 81bpm. Wow surprised! This method works. Thanks Would you have a vid on how to increase arm/hand strength for playing barre chords?
What are bpm for 4:4 and 6:8. In your. Idea teaching Rising Sun, what BPM is metronome set for? By the way, your method of teaching makes sense. Thank you!
Hi Brenda, bpm would just depend on the song. You can set most metronomes for 4/4 vs 6/8. 153 is bopm for Rising Sun. Or at least that's what Google says. LOL
You can't learn unless you make mistakes making mistakes makes you think and solve problems, when I practice with a metronome I use speeds: 15, 80, and 160bpm and the three values I use are 1/4, 1/8 and triplets all 4/4 time, scales, strumming and changing chords 160bpm is too fast for scales the metronome is a useful tool and this is the first video showing how to use a metronome and it is basically what I have been doing I am glad I am doing something right
You have to try it to see how much sense it makes. I'm spaghetti fingers at the moment (brand new 👍) but the point is after trying it I can already see a light in the distance 😄
Hi lauren your strumming video was a great help, i've been learning to play for 3 years well no formal training just somethings taught never the full songs i just pick alot like up and down the board but i have learnt some cords and the strumming video helped with the chord playing. But i have question maybe u could help me, im finding it very hard to know what string im hitting when im using a guitar pick i always hit the string below what i thought i was gonna hit, and if i hit the strings in up strokes i skip the B E strings unless i look at my struming or string picking, but i can finger pick without having to look and i hit all of the right strings but doing that makes my other hand miss the note and hold the wrong string on the neck so im asking what might i be doing wrong? If you could give me any kinda advice or make a video, anything to help. Thank you from one guitar enthusiast to another
I have a string control exercise in my course that I go over. It's like anything else. You have to train for that specific skill. So work on that alone. No chords, no nothing. Just trying to figure out string distance.
Hi Lauren, this video has really helped me both physically and mentally. I have been struggling to get my 66 years old fingers to move from cord to cord. Practice makes progress, right? Thanks so much for taking time to help us to play guitar out here in the RU-vid world. 🤘🤘✌️
Hi lauren fab video thank you so much! Ive been playing for two years now and followed you quite alot and still struggling with fast rhythms for strumming seem to be playing the same one as my friends and wife say the same lol stumbled on this video and yes Ive got a metronome but admitted I don’t use it A lot ! Just watched ur vid twice and what a brilliant idea Ive sped up already but always room for improvement. Thank you again for your vids they are truly amazing 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you so much for you lesson series and all the effort you put in to unlock the joy of guitar playing for all of us who are trying to master this wonderful instrument. You are a true revelation.
Laura, It's me the 10th worst guitar player West of the Mississippi 😯I got a windup metronome for father's day and just got thru listening to your lesson and found it very helpful. Especially how you can do scales to the metronome as well as chords....golliee ! I'm learnin, now which foot do I use to tap out the beat while I 'm playin, Hehaw ! Thanks again, you're the best ! db.
When I first started your 7 level course, I couldn’t use the metronome. After a few months of practice I was able start using a metronome. The problem that I’m having is making solid strums with the cord changes. I sometimes actually miss the strings because I’m so focused on the cord change. Help🎸
@@LaurenBateman I’m definitely doing better. I find it interesting that I am much faster with certain cord combinations. C to G and C to D are still evil, but I’m determined to win this battle. Overall I’m really enjoying the guitar journey. Thanks for developing such a great course.
Thank you very much Lauren for this amazing video, very informative. I've been practicing and playing guitar on and off (maybe the reason for my slow progression) for years now, and this is the 1st time I've heard of metronome. I already downloaded Metronome Beats, this will help me a lot when it comes to timing. More power to your channel and keep sharing... 😊👍
This makes perfect sense. My guitar teacher wants me to “find” my timing naturally. Well, I downloaded a metronome and will now incorporate this little exercise. I like the way you ease beginner guitar players into the process.
Lauren you are an amazing teacher and you show proper techniques you've been a great motivator to the beginner 🌹.... I enjoy all your lessons.. and similarly practice it... I'm learning from an academy but believe me you.. just minute details are not been shared...
Lauren I take guitar lessons but until now I've never used a metronome. Your lesson to increase chord changes is a big help. I'll continue to use it, it really helps. Thank you!
I had brought my new guitar in 2023 now i am learning how to play guitar nicely thanks for telling us this useful tips Big fan Hope i can meet you oneday Love from Bangladesh!!
