How to use a modern SIM in a Brick phone 

Thanks Adam, well if you don't get the contacts lined up exactly right the phone wont be able to read the SIM and you might get a check card or insert SIM prompt.

Yeah I really am not an apple fan because out of 9 apple products that I have been given personally 7 of them didn't work or didnt work as they should.....that is in my opinion downright appaling!!! I never understood how someone would queue outside an apple store for a whole week in a tent just to buy an apple product!!! thats lunacy!

I've been a few times now as it's the best place to score good deals direct with suppliers and manufacturers for video editing/production equipment. I missed the party this year as I was abroad somewhere else. It was really nice for people to come up and say hello even though nobody knows what I look like!!

My youngest daughter causes too much trouble with ANY modern phone. A brick phone is perfect her, so all she can do is call or accept calls. This is just how we handled her cell phone addiction problem.

It is possible to use an old brick phone that takes a sim card. if you are in the USA you are very limited though as there is only a handful of models. check out my video about the microtac select 2000, 3000 and 6000e. they can still be used anywhere in the Americas. Also the startac 7000g and 8000g will also work on american GSM1900 like the 2000, 3000 and 6000e. I have all of these and have recently used them in America on trips over so I can 100 percent vouch for that. who is telling you different? do I know them?

I have the same problem with my Motorola. I can't find anything to solve it.

+Chris Lumsden Ah dude....the day GSM gets switched off will be a sad day for me. I will probably have to pay for some brick phones to be converted when the day comes. Why is australia wanting to swich off so soon. they are going to loose out on all the revenue from roaming international visitors on their cellular networks.

Oh you can convert them but it's fiddly to do and the phone won't be certified as safe by the ETSI board because it hasn't been tested for radiation and SARS and all that stuff. Also you have to be real good with surface mount components and soldering so it's not everyones bag. But if I can pay someone to do it then it's all good.

+Robin Nelhams Depends what you want to use your brick phone for. If it's just for a prop and youre not worried about weight then get a big breifcase phone. If you're wanting to carry your brick around and use it daily then maybe something smaller like a microtac or a small transportable. Depends what country youre in too as to what phones you can still use.

I reply to myself, I was using the wrong provider. only o2 and Vodafone have 2g 900kHz so now it's working. I still want to know if someone make lithium batteries for moto 7500 or similar. thanks

OK the motorola international 7500 (and 5200, 6200, 7200 and 8400 amonst others) all operate on 2G GSM900. I don't know what country you are located in but I will assume you are in the UK as you 've not said otherwise. In the UK H3G or (three) operates on 3G 2100 as well as 4G obviously. The 7500 is incompatible for two reasons. Firstly H3G 's network is 3G (3rd generation) as opposed to the 7500 which is 2G (2nd generation) and also H3G operate on 2100Mhz and the 7500 will only work on 900mhz. The G's is a technology incompatibilty and the Mhz bit is a frequency incompatibility. Hope that makes sense. Lithium Ion bats for 7500 or MR601 are very hard to find....I and some of the other elite collectors normally snap them up for top money because they are the only batteries that give you a decent standby time on a 7500 or 601. If you just want to play with your phone then a NiCd will be sufficient but if you want to use your 7500 or 601 as your main daily phone then a lithium is kinda necessary. They usually go for about 100 to 120 pounds between us elite collectors (1000 plus phones) but you might be lucky if none of us are paying attention to find one. Alternatively of course I could let you know next time I'm selling one....but lots of people have asked.

Going have to know somebody who can modify the phone. My step-dad worked at phone company, so he can do that. Or did in his personal case.

+Gud Shit Inc. I can't say I've ever heard of that particular model of audiovox phone. It's likely to be an AMPS model as audiovox only ever made non GSM phones to my knowledge. I don't advise tampering with any phone on an electronic level.

+Robin Nelhams so for any where in europe you could use something like the motorola microtac M301, MR1, MR601, 5200, 7200, 7500, 8400, 8700, 8800 or 8900....so you're spoilt for choice really. If you're wanting a nokia then go for the 2010 or the 2110i.

+Evan Starnes Well I got given about a dozen apple products over the years through work contacts and as promotional gifts and marketing samples....most didn't work out of the box and the replacements they sent weren't much better! they usually didn't work either.....you'd think they would test the ones they sent out as marketing gifts at the very least! So I choose my words carefully when comment strongly on a product....and based on my experience with Apple products (iphone, iphone2, iphone3, ipad, ipod & ipad2) I am not impressed. If apple want to send me something that works through my work contacts then I'm happy to re-evaluate. Until then my opinion of apple products is based on my personal experience which isn't great as mentioned in my previous lengthy comment explaining why. What kind of brick phone are you after?

+‫حسام م‬‎ The nokia X1-01 isn't old. it's not vintage! if you want something old school then go for a GSM microtac or a nokia 9000 or a nokia 9110 or 9210. Big bold badass and they work not like your fruit brands of phone!
