I have learned tons of stuff from your videos in all regards, also this one(Thank you for sharing🙏🙏) . But after 2 years I have to add some small advice. The face on my yellow cap started chipping (managed to repair it though😉👍) making me believe that it has to be hit over the blade. Due to the anwill being hardened steel and there is a little give in tolerance between cap and guide. So my additional tip is to strike the cap over the blade, to avoid chipping of the cap.

@@userthor7386 chipping can unfortunately occur anyway. And I agree with you, but why would you hit the cap without a blades bevel in-between cap and anvil? It is of course stressing for both anvil and cap.

@slåttergubben - om det blir flera tunna sprickor i eggen, beror det på att jag knackar för mycket?
@slattergubben6702
@slattergubben6702 9 месяцев назад
Kan ha flera orsaker, främst bladet självt. Så länge de inte lossnar i fyrkantiga flisor i för stor utsträckning så gör de inget. Annars fila/slipa ned o knacka om. Det felet de flesta gör är att knacka för lite o för sällan.

I couldn’t follow the spoken part, but I think this is the first video about this jig that is using the caps in the right order. Start with Yellow, finish with Red. Often people confuse the 1 (red) and 2 (yellow) rings on the cap as step 1 and step 2, which is not correct.

Thanks, it's in the pipe to text it , or just make a new one. There is some things that can be added. Nowdays we form the shape of the caps ourselfs to have a uniqe shape of the caps that is the best one. And there is more to tell about peening with jigg.

A thin strip of lead makes it very easy to show te effect of peening

Hi, I am trying to figure out why this should work better than the other way round. First create a thin zone of lesser mechanical resistance at the edge, and then push more metal from behind ?
@z4zuse
@z4zuse Год назад
@@samueldougoud3289 it works better the other way around. Try it carefully by 'peening' a strip of lead. You will see clearly the edge progression.

Not all scythe blades can be peened to sharpen them. If you use a peening jig on a cast iron blade, parts of it will break off or it may shatter.

Yes, in the past we used grinding scythe in the Nordic countries and they are still around. Some even still sold today. But according to me there is no new production of good grinding blades. A peened blade is much more tolerant for damages and is much much easier to hone.

What is the expected lifespan of this peening jig. Dos it wear out fast? I want to buy one, but I don't know whether to buy one or two as a spare :)

Expected for the golden is maybe 50 times, then you can regrind yourself, buy a new golden, or leave it to us for regrinding.
