I'm learning so much from your tutorials. The Walking Foot is a time saver for accurate lines and shapes and it's so much fun too. I got mine this morning thanks to you .Mine came in 3 parts, and wondered how to fix the pressure foot to it. I was worried as there were no tutorials on this. I finally managed to fix it. I really appreciate and admire your gift to teach and explain without too much fuss. It's a pleasure to listen to you explaining. Thanks for sharing and caring. xxx

i love my walking foot (with/and without the guide) i taught myself to use it by making a sewing machine mat, and found it to be a breeze! I'd never used it before but watched your video and select other vids which helped ALOT! I have also purchased stuff for my vintage machines from your website...what a lifesaver. I wasn't paid to say this, its the absolute truth, in my case! TFS

Do you cut the thread while you are sewing or does it automatically cut it for you? I have a Brother but I would have to snip it with scissors or pull of the entire fabric piece out from under the foot and cut it with the built in cutter. I like your demonstration of using the quilter foot. :-) It made a lot of sense.

Your demonstrations are super! I recently purchased a 32 presser foot set and it has one called JAGUAR that I haven't seen demonstrated or explained. It looks like a large zigzag foot that has markings of 1/8" at center and each side of center. Also has markings for 1/4" behind and in front of needle on left fork of foot. And there is a slit opening at the right side of the zigzag needle area. There is a separation between the wide zigzag opening and the front of the foot and each arm of the foot is encased in clear acrylic that curves slightly upward at the front end. There is also a small rectangular opening in the center of this acrylic. Hopefully you know what I am talking about and may be able to offer me some helpful tips to use this great looking foot!

Hi, great video. I'm learning to use the Brother CSI 6000i. I don't really like where the 1/4 marking is located on the needle plate, and that is what I use to guide my stitch widths. There is the 1/4 inch marking at the top of plate, but it means that it isn't available beside the material when you are ready to sew, so you can't check if you're on the 1/4 inch line, or not, while sewing. I see there are inch markings on your needle plate, but I can't see where it is located exactly. There are no RU-vid videos I can find about throat plate markings, for any sewing machines! It shouldn't be necessary to buy extra parts. Please advise. Thanks, Ellen
@Matty06001
@Matty06001 Год назад
Those plate markings are notoriously inaccurate. You really have to get a ruler, gently put the needle down on the quarter inch line, and then put your own marking on the plate where the edge of the ruler lands. Or just memorize where on the foot the quarter inch lines up. That’s what I do. Totally ignore the plate markings, they’re crap.

just got the designio Dz2750 from amazon which came with the 1/4" foot without a seam guide. Don't know who measured this when they made the foot, but it doesn't actually sew a 1/4" !! First of all, if you have this machine, be sure to select stitch #01 which centers the needle over the opening in this foot - DO NOT use the default #00. Doing that and lining up the fabric to the outside right edge of the foot gives you a seam allowance of 5/16" not 4/16" and not close the the "scant" 1/4 that many patterns suggest. I tried all kinds of tricks - which of course I could have easily done with ANY of the feet.....so this kinda sucks for me, as I was hoping for a clear cut - consistent 1/4" foot -- Here is what works for me: Set your stitch selector to 01, use the 1/4" foot (which I already mentioned above really ISN'T), use the outside of the right "toe" and set your stitch width to 3.0 which bumps the needle over slightly. Make sure your needle isn't bent or this bump-over may cause it to hit the foot. I don't know if all feet are made this way or not...this foot has a letter "x" on it.

cfkansas Hi! Thank you for sharing these tips! 5/16 and 4/16th is a huge difference when you think of piecing quilt pieces together - it throws off the measurements of the whole quilt! Thank you for these tips!

Hi, I love the video, thanks! I know this a is a old video but I am hoping you will still see my question. Or maybe someone else will and can help me? I was wondering what stitch length you are using? I like the look of it. And when I was practicing my lines on a practice quilt I didn't like how small my stitches were.And I have a computerized sewing machine and they recommend having it on auto so that is what I was using. If I was to change it manually I am not sure what stitch length to go with. Thanks!

Practice a bit with some scrap fabric of the type you're planning to use. Settings for stitch length that looks like what you want can vary by fabric type. Suggest increasing your standard (normal/default) a bit at a time, till you see the results you want. Hope this helps, a bit. Merry Christmas.

QUESTION?? Now the 1/4 quilting foot is available as a snap on foot, but the walking foot is not, so it looks like quilt piecing is possible on a Brother snap on foot sewing machine, but to put together a complete quilt, one would want the Brother sewing machine that uses a walking foot, as well as the 1/4 quilting foot.

@SewingPartsOnline 10 лет назад
Hi! You can piece together a quilt without a 1/4 inch foot. Just have to mark a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Before I had a 1/4 inch foot, I would just use a seam gauge to measure the distance from the needle to the needle plate and adjust my needle position accordingly. The 1/4 inch foot just makes it easier.

When teaching if you point to something, you should make sure the camera is looking directly at it so we can clearly see what you are pointing at. When the camera is at an angle off to the side it is unclear where your finger is pointing on something small like a presser foot. I'm speaking about the foot without the guide... no idea which part of the foot your fabric was lined up to because of the camera angle.
