@@WanderingSwitchback debatable, I'd say the smart water bottles will hold up to much more abuse then the cnoc and it won't puncture near as easy as the softer bag. Not to mention if there is a puncture it's way cheaper and easier to get a new bottle then a new cnoc bag. In ideal conditions and being careful with both I would agree the cnoc would last longer though.
I've had an easier time collecting water with my CNOC than with plastic bottles, since it's easier to get into nooks and crannies. But both are certainly viable options, and I know the bottles are very popular. And as you said, much easier to replace.
Super informative, thank you! Just got my first CNOC bags and I’m so excited to try them on this upcoming trip. My question is, is there an adaptor I can purchase to filter straight into CNOC bottles rather then having to balance the collapsible bottles beneath the filter or should I look into buying the dual sided sawyer? Super curious to see your gravity system as well.
I’m pretty sure you can use the same coupler people use with a Smartwater bottle. Here’s one of those: alnk.to/9T96kes Here’s my gravity setup to fill my bladder inside my pack. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T89L0zpg_RM.htmlsi=p6GO2Cy-PzqYeg14 I hope you love your CNOC bags!
I bring my Toaks water pot with me to the water source, along with the Sawyer bag. Then I scoop water with the pot, and carefully pour it into the bag, holding the bag upright with one hand. A few scoops, and the bag is filled. Works great.
I have never squeezed the water out of the bag that came with my Sawyer squeeze. It flows out in about 45 sec and wondering if there is something wrong with it. Been drinking water from streams and anywhere the water is flowing. Do you know if this might be a problem? It's only about 2 months old
If all you’ve put in it is clear water, without particles/dirt, and you’re maintaining it well, and you haven’t let it freeze, it’s probably fine. Mine is 7-8 years old, so it’s probably a little slower than a new one, although it still works fine for my taste.
I use the same system with the CNOC bag and the Sawyer squeeze. In addition I have added the Osprey quick connect to the end of the Sawyer so I can filter directly into my Osprey 3L bladder without taking it out of my bag.
Nice! I've had good luck using this method to keep from having to take it out of my pack. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T89L0zpg_RM.html It's a great setup in either case!
Some sellers on eBay sell a 3-D printed adaptor that allows you to screw the clean end of the Sawyer Squeeze to a wide mouth Nalgene bottle, to help avoid spilling newly filtered water as you squeeze the bag; the Nalgene bottle stays firmly attached to the clean end of the Sawyer Squeeze, no matter how vigorously you may shake it as you squeeze the bag. No loss of precious water.
I don’t use them. I use Aquamira drops as a backup in case my Sawyer fails, but I very rarely need them. In the US, no need to treat AND filter. If you’re abroad, make sure you know the conditions ahead of time and treat your water accordingly.
