Need to cut a part at an angle on a manual mill? Here's how to indicate your vise using a sine bar.
In this episode of Learning from The Pros", we joined Matt Schmelzer, machine tool instructor at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, as he shows how to indicate a vise to an angle on a milling machine. This is one of the activities the students at NWTC go through to produce a project that requires an angle milled on a part.

When I was a Machinist back in the 1970's instead of magnets I would use a DIE spring from the movable jaw and the sine bar to make sure the sine would not move.

I do gauge blocks from the big end. I start with the largest block that is smaller than the finished stack. Then the next biggest block that fits in the remaining gap and so on until I have the right size. Starting at the small end makes no sense to me.

I would definitely remove the end stop from the sine bar, it's just waiting for the indicator stylus to hit it.

You don't need any stupid sine bar to do that.

Really? How would you get within one .001" over a five inch distance, and be sure you were within that spec? Suppose it needed to be within .0005"? I'm not saying you can't do it. But at some level of accuracy you need more precise methods, I suggest. And at that point a method likes this seems to be useful. At least it is illustrating how to use the precision allowed by a sine bar to transfer that accuracy to a machining setup. I found it useful, anyway!
