I'm here because my neighbor went to the emergency room and I had no idea how to close this thing off as his wife requested, so thank you for this video. You never know how it's going to be used.

My grandparents used a large wood range when Iwas a kid. They lived in a small city. Eventually changed to gas. I'm 71. Grandparents were born in the late 1800s. We had a small woodstove In our living room when we lived in Denmark. It was great. It heated the whole farmhouse.

I have a photo by Arthur Zimmerman of his sister Pearl next to the wood burning cook stove in this kitchen around 1905, she has a nice looking cat on her shoulders and she is sitting in a chair with her elbows on her knees. Arthur ( A.L. Zimmerman ) was quite a good photographer.

I bought one from you guys in 1989 and we love it. It has a water tank on the side for heating water. The ice storm of 2009 knocked out our power for 5 days. Our daughter-in-law still had power and she invited us to stay with her. We told her we were having fun heating the house with our wood cook stove so she sent our granddaughters to spend the 5 days with us. We had a lot of fun cooking and keeping warm with our Elmira Sweet Heart stove. Your Friend in Owensboro, Kentucky

We purchased this exact stove for our off grid home in November 2016. We love it. I went right to the factory and looked at them, then purchased the floor model from the nearby show room. Amazing company to deal with. I got the floor model, which included the rear water jacket and the heat shield. I payed $5200 bucks, taxes included. Amazing deal. I picked it up and made the long trek 5 hours to our cabin. I can not say enough about this stove. Heats up quick when you know what you are doing and always use DRY wood. The oven heats to 350 within 20 minutes. And I will be using it in the summer with the propane side burners. Oh, and just to let you all know, we are putting in WATER in floor heating and this stove will run that too because of its unique closed loop system water jacket on the back which will be in conjunction with a hot water tank. It is a whole house unit. Remarkable. Love it!

I had neighbors that cooked with wood. I imagine that stove was as old as they were. There was a little crack in the oven that leaked a little smoke. Everything had a smokey flavor. So good. Miss them a bunch.

I am currently 48 years old. Growing up my family used these type of stove's and I aways wanted one. My great uncle still uses one to this day. When I am at his house in the winter and this stove is running, I am very jealous. His kitchen and living room are open and it creates enough heat for the 2 rooms.

Carlos, you are an excellent public speaker. And you sure know your line of goods. Next time maybe talk about use of cookstove wood, the small pieces of what looks like kindling that maintains the oven temperature without temperature flare ups. Soft maple or cottonwood fully dried lets the baker bring the temp up gradually and then maintain it during the entire bake cycle. P.S. Those are great ovens! Too many cheap ones have a thin firebox that can crack when burning Illinois oak. Your ovens look ready to stop that.

Wood or coal cooking stove are reliable then fireplace cooking in 1840s, and they are safer, and cook the food evenly, and less work when stirring the soup in the pot, and no more heavy lifting for a woman who works in the kitchen. Some historical buildings at Greenfield Village in Dearborn Michigan does have either of these, depending what year they are in. In the 1600s, 1700s, and 1800s as late as 1840s they used hearth fireplace cooking. After the 1840s, they used wood (later coal) cooking stove for later historical buildings.

Excellent demonstration ! For once people can see the actual sizes (heights and widths) in comparison to a person standing next to the stove; usually folks are surprised that the pots are at waist level but once they feel that heat they see why (but can always put the stove on a hearth if you wish ) and the food is so different in taste !

Hearing the old saying of just how grandmother used to make it sounds funny coming from such a young man. I'm 56 and remember 'how my grandmother used to make it' as true. His grandmother was probably born in the 50's. But, on a more serious note, I would like to have one of these at our mountain house. It would likely go into the cellar because there just isn't any other place to put it. The upstairs is a modern electric stove. The place is too small to put one of these in on that floor. Oh, and its cost?
@wisewoman7906
@wisewoman7906 3 года назад
Worth every penny. Besides, wood is cheap if you are able to forage. Much cheaper than heating with electric or gas.
@beebob1279

@@wisewoman7906 I'm still looking for the right one. I'll have to put a pipe up the side of the house which I think is ugly. In winter it would be able to heat the basement and the first floor when I'm up in winter weekends.

Takes around four hours to bring up to baking temperature. Less time for range-top cooking. In the old days housewives were busy stoking their ovens during their waking hours. If fire went out it was more work to restart.

I have one of these stoves, bought from Elmira, Ontario, and shipped to me here in BC, Canada, except I opted for the model without the gas burners. Instead, I have a workspace on that side, where I store a few pots, and park my cooking. Besides, I already have a gas range, so I don't need more burners - but since I got this stove, we never use the gas range. Maybe in summer we will. :) I see he mentioned something about "an overnight burn". I can't get mine to go more than about 4 hours, with all the dampers down and my best Douglas fir pieces. Is an overnight burn really possible?
@graceamazing5981
@graceamazing5981 5 лет назад
No evergreen burns very long. It wouldn't in my wood stove . . . . Pine and spruce are 'kindling' ...not for heat. If you can get oak, ash, maple -- you'd get easy over night. Beech not quite that good. Douglas fir is a beautiful tree, but i doubt it burns very long at all. Once our 'banked' (stacked against the oven wall) fire was still alive with coals after 48 hours !!! The drafts were all turned all the way down and no one was home! That was the Longest I've ever heard... No doubts !

The gas burners would be fine for summer cooking so you wont heat up the house with a wood fire. I like that feature. However, I think the bottom warming oven is a waste of space with the wide one at the top. Why have two? I think I would rather have a hot water reservoir at the bottom instead like many other stoves have. That makes more sense to me. Can this stove come with a water reservoir instead of the lower warming oven and the gas burners?
