@@1MKWilliams Can I ask, what would be the appropriate font size for the blurb on the back cover? I've heard between 8 pt - 12 pt but in your personal and professional opinion, what would you recommend?
Thank You! Finally someone who actually explains how to use the templates....I was missing the opacity step...do we delete the template layer? or it doesn't matter because we don't see it anymore?
Thank you so much for your videos. I am using KDP template to format my book.. this is the first time my header is cutting off and i do not know what to do
I’m having a problem I was wondering if yu could make a video for it It’s says cover Then it’s say remove all template and guides from ya cover file I have no idea what this means and it’s been holding me back from releasing my book Thank you
Great! Just wonder what buttons in PS you were clicking and why? Photoshop is the most user hostile soft. You have to know where is what and what it does. It is not intuitive like majority of the soft.
Hello, great video! Please go over page count versus sheet count. It has been my understanding that page count is total number of pages front and back of the interior including blank pages. Sheet count is the total number of sheets of paper used. 1 sheet equals 2 pages. If I have 100 pages that would be 50 sheets of paper. When entering in pages it would be total number front and back.
HI Jason, Great question. When uploading your paperback to KDP (or IngramSpakr) they are asking for page count, the total number of pages. It always need to be an even number, because as you said it is two pages to one sheet. When you export your file as a PDF you will be able to get a final total page count. Use that number.
How accurate should number of pages be? I have 50 pages but I might end up adding a few more pages, should I wait to know exact number of pages to then make the cover?
@@1MKWilliams how do I determine exact number of pages? I have 50 images (one image per page), but how many pages should I add for title, copyright, etc?
Thank you for this video. I'm new to KDP with low content books. I have uploaded 2 books. All goes through just fine. But when the cover preview comes on, the designs I put on the cover are missing. The background of the cover itself is showing. Do you know why this could be happening? Thanks
Hi Elaine, Thank you for reaching out. My initial thought would be that the layers of the file need to be flattened, but I'm not an expert. I would suggest watching and reaching out to Easy Graphics: ru-vid.com his whole channel is dedicated to low content books and he may already have something to help you troubleshoot.
Quick question and maybe you answered this in another video. Is the page count the physical number of pages meaning if you have a book and its 50 physical pages it comes out to 100 numbered pages (IE front and back of 1 physical page would contain pages 1 and 2) or is it the total number of content pages including the title page, TOC, forward etc. Meaning that if you have 100 content pages (front and back) it would come out as 100 page count. Mainly what decides the page count number? Thank you
Great question. So in a book with 50 sheets if paper there would be 100 pages (1 sheet has a front and back page). You may only have 95 numbered pages after your title page, copyright page, toc, etc. When uploading the book you will enter the page count, in this example 100. I hope that helps. Best of luck!
@@1MKWilliams Yes thank you that answers my question perfectly. That is what I thought I just wanted to verify that. Thank you and love your content. :)
@@1MKWilliams Oh OK, thanks. I was confused since you didn't cut out the barcode area. I know text should not go into the area but wasn't sure about a wrapped around graphic such as yours, thanks again.
I'm definitely not a design expert. For my thinner books without a spine I just let the image from the front roll onto to the back so it is seamless. But if you need help with the cover, I recommend working with 100 Covers: 100covers.com/?ref=49
@@1MKWilliams yeah I’ve been running into this page but haven’t complete it cause of me being confused thinking that I had to complete “PAPER BACK COVER TEMPLATES” page .. sorry for the misunderstanding and thanks for ur fast 💨 reply Ms WILLIAMS 😀👍🏼
Hi M.K, Thank you for this video. It is very helpful. I have a question I am hoping you can answer. . .How can I delete an uploaded cover that I uploaded using the Cover Creator tool? I don't see the option. Essentially, I am unable to add text to the spine of my book. The book will be 85 pages long, so I should be able to add text on the spine. Is there a way to adjust this using Cover Creator? Or if there isn't, how can I delete the book cover completely and start from scratch. I assume it is worth mentioning that I uploaded a book cover using the Cover Creator tool before I uploaded my manuscript. I read somewhere that this should not be done due to the fact that the margins need to be set beforehand. Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your time! :)
Thanks for your great tutorials. Question: is the book cover size for KDP and IngramSparkes relatively the same or are they vastly different sizes for the same book?
Happy to help. The sizes are slightly different so use the templates provided by each platform: myaccount.ingramspark.com/Portal/Tools/CoverTemplateGenerator kdp.amazon.com/cover-calculator
Hi Lawrence, you can usually google an approximate page count based on the word count (the trim size will impact this.) But I usually wait until I know the final formatted book interior file page count before finalizing the print cover. Best of luck!
No matter if I use the templates (in Canva I just lower the transparency) for a no content journal or notebook with bleed (bleed on) KDP is never happy with what I upload. Constantly gives me the red lines error message and I am unable to bypass this. I have tried with a Spine, no spine and even designing in their own creator and got exactly the same thing each time. Why does this keep happening? Thanks Designed cover in both Canva (prefer) and PowerPoint and got the same exact error message.
Hi Josephine, Hmm my first thought is that it is time to move out of Canva and into an Adobe product like Microsoft. The templates are meant to be used in a program of that strength. I've never had an issue with the templates in Photoshop. Best of luck
Update: actually the templates worked and cover was good, it was the lined paper that wasn’t working well. For this I used an already made template created by Paul Marles (sp ?) who has a template on Gumroad.
This video saved me...but now that the cover has been uploaded and approved, I found out that the new cover won't replace the old cover until the inventory that is on hand is sold. Neither KDP or Amazon will give me that info. They keep redirecting me back and forth. How do I find out how much inventory there is....somewhere.? Thanks so much.
So glad I can help! I've not heard of this issue before mainly because KDP is print on demand so it's odd that they have any stock to push. Definitely pack your patience and navigate the run around a bit to find out. Would you mind commenting back once this is resolved in case anyone else has this specific issue?
I just wanted to give you an update on my issue, hopefully you can use it to help someone else. Yesterday I checked on my Amazon listing again and the old cover was still there. I noticed that there was a used copy available so I decided to buy it, thinking that maybe that was the inventory, and I then did a second separate purchase of twelve books, hoping that would help clear it too. I checked today, the old cover was still showing. I decided to give it one more shot and called KDP. I got lucky, a great rep looked into things. He saw the new cover and that the old one was still showing. He did a deep dive and found no inventory. He thinks my purchases cleared out whatever had been there. He reprocessed my new cover and said that in three business days, the new cover should be on the listing. I feel like.a detective who solved a case! Thanks for your encouragement!@@1MKWilliams
My colored pages and cover look blurry. I downloaded them as PDF print. As I’ve been told. So why does it look fine in pdf link and not in the kdp previewer?
A few thoughts come to mind: 1. order a printed proof of the book to confirm that it will look the way you want it to 2. check that your files are in CMYK not RGB, it can make a difference in how the colors show through. Best of luck!
Hi MK, thanks for this video. I wonder how much interior do I have to creat for a cover with 240 pages. Is it 480 sheets? Like a cover page and then 379 pages with content? Sorry I'm just confused... :-)
Hi Regula, Great question! So once you have the interior of the book formatted for the book size you would like (5.5x8.5 inches or 6x9 inches) you'll know the total interior page count (with the book content, table of contents, about the author, etc.). Use that final page count when you pick your template so that it has enough space on the spine. Hope this helps!
Hi. Thanks for this. But you show yourself dropping your cover into your template. But HOW do you create the cover from scratch so that it will FIT into the template? Thanks. :-)
When i published both my front cover and back cover shows in the website. Together, but others' only the front side shows in the website. How can i fix that.
I've not experienced that problem before. I would suggest reaching out to Author Central for support. Is this showing on the paperback version or the eBook version?
@@JACk-hv7yf if you have different covers then you may consider making it a different edition if it looks very different, a different edition means a different ISBN. It may be better to get a cover made that you can use anywhere and then you only need the 1 ISBN
Thank you, bc I'm feeling frustrated. Let me try this. I have my entire book in PDF, & wish that I could insert each page 1 @ a time. I'm almost 66 years old, & I'm just not wired this way.😢
Hi Grace, Yes, it can be really frustrating to reformat. If you haven't been able to get the cover and the interior file set yet, I would recommend reaching out to formatted books. They have very very very reasonable rates for self-publishers and then you don't have to worry about the formatting anymore. formattedbooks.com/?ref=31
For kdp does your book cover count as 2 or 4 pages? Because i did my cover using the template for 64 pages when im starting to think it might actually be 62. Im having issues uploading the cover so i think that might be the reason but i cant say for sure since im confused as to how many pages the cover counts as
@@MarioDoodles depending on the trim size you selected for the interior for the paperback and hardcover the sizes may be different. You should be able to pick one size for both to make it easier
Hi Liz, The barcode is the standard for any physical product so aim to have the barcode. If using a QR code I would leverage that to allow readers to easily get to your website to claim a freebie or subscribe.
@@luxstylerealestatemedia No, you'll need an ISBN. This video should help to explain the different between the Barcode and the ISBN: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3xQRiBMh13I.html
Excellent information thank you. I found that because you speak so fast that I missed something. You sped from kdp to photoshop. Why? Maybe its just me. However I will replay the video several more times.
When you are using the KDP Cover template they should give you a bright yellow square for where the barcode should be placed, trying aligning it up there to see if that solves for the issue. It always needs to be a bit higher than I think it need to be every time.
Hi I’m really stuck. My illustrator has made me a full book for KDP .. it is 8.27inc (width) x 11.67inc long. I can’t find this on KDP. Do they do this size?
Hey M.K. I am awaiting my proof copy. But one concern is on my bookshelf thumbnail and order page, the image is washed out looking. Will my book print this way? Another concern is will the thumbnail image appear this poor on the sales page? It could be to do with the file being CYMK and not RGB. In the previewer the PDF is fine when I approve it.
Hi Gelbs, it's good you're getting the proof copy so you can see how the image will look when printed. In my experience the thumbnail on the bookshelf is what it looks like on the sales page. You may want to re-save and upload it as a higher resolution image. Best of luck
I have a 200 page 6x9 journal - cover size 12.7 x 9.25 - I keep getting this rejection message: Resize the background or image on your cover so that it extends 0.125” (3.2 mm) beyond the trim line. Does this mean I need to increase it to 12.825 x 9.375? It's only a solid color on the cover so there is no "image" to resize. I'm lost. How can I fix this?
Hi Lisa, Yes you need to add that .125 on all sides so it would need to be 12.95 x 9.5. You just need a little extra on all sides so there isn't a harsh white line if the printer is a little off.
@@1MKWilliams It's the 9.5 that was throwing me off because it didn't show on my template. I figured it out a few hours ago - thank you so much for taking the time to respond!
Hmm, I would double check that the trim size on the template matches the trim size you selected. I spent an hour pulling my hair out one time when they wouldn't line up and realized I selected the wrong trim size. It is easy to miss.
Correct, any of the text that you want displayed on the cover should not over over, however the cover image itself will need to "bleed" into that area since there will be a slight variation in printing.
