Thank you for making these videos Ryan. I'm not really an audio guy, so these have really helped me assess previous projects that I've made and improve their sound quality. Turns out I was cutting frequencies that I needed and boosting those I didn't oops!

I have looked at every video on YT about sound mixing post production on FCPX and you by far have done the best job. YOU ARE SO TALENTED AT TEACHING. Like honestly, you have a gift. Thank you. I have very little knowledge of EQ. I am feeling a bit shy and do not want to offend anyone. However, I am curious to know one thing - just to analyze how it would sound if we make certain adjustments. While editing this RU-vid video, I noticed that you slightly boosted the 2k Hz to make the voice stand out over the music. I was wondering, did you reduce the 2k Hz in your music?
That’s definitely something you can do: slightly boost it in the voice and slightly reduce it in the music. You may not always like that in the music though, so it depends on the context.
@@RyanGreen Yes. I think the ground rule is to create space for particular audio's frequency so that the other audio's same frequencies don't create interference. Because we want peace to our frequencies.
hi ryan, interesting topic and great insight on EQ. but i had a little hard time trying to concentrate and absorb what you are saying. i dunno if its because of the background music, the subtle cut/transition between takes or the pacing of things. maybe a quick pause/break between points? anyhow, interesting topics, will definitely come back for more.
Thanks. Following from South America. My problem is that I do my recordings (Shure sm7b and Rode NTG3 on a Zoom H6) next to a highway and there is a lot of windows in my house. Any tips? Gracias!
Oo yeah that's always hard. They're both directional mics which is a good start, if you can be facing the motorway so the mics are facing away from it that might help a tiny bit, but as for EQ the most important thing will be your low cut. I'm guessing it's quite rumbly? You might want to make the filter even steeper if you have the option, like 36dB/oct, and make sure you're getting rid of as much as possible. If it's still there and it's bothering you you'll have to start playing with noise reduction unfortunately. The iZotope RX suite is really what you want for doing this, but it's pricey
