Join Jason Lanier in the middle of Detroit Michigan as he turns a cityscape into an abandoned backdrop using nothing more than the Sony A7s and a flash.
This video and shoot was shot in September 2014 when Sony was still a new proposition for Jason. In this video he's using the Rokinon 14mm lens with a Nikon manual adapter for the camera.
We hope this helps, and truly hope you like the video. Thanks for watching!

Great to see probably the most affordable super wide angle lens being used, with amazing results.

Why don't you call the model by her name? Saying "sweetie" and "honey" all the time is creepy as hell

It baffles me how select people continue to find any and every minute detail to throw shade at. I'm willing to bet that those same people do not know Jason personally but somehow can conjure up the need to question his character and HIS work. Notice I said "HIS" work. If you do not like HIS work, then why are you waisting "YOUR" time debating another man's opinion or take on a specific subject. Especially when that subject in essence demands creativity. The model was there for a reason and that was to do a photoshoot based on Jason's approach to photography. If she wanted another approach then she would have hired someone that she felt has the experience capable of fulfilling the vision that she had in mind. We have too many people that think their way of doing things is the correct way and everyone else's is wrong. I guess me typing this comment instead of writing it in cursive handwriting with a pen and piece of paper and mailing it to everyone is not as impressive and is pure laziness on my part....

People don't understand this is a master creative professional at work. The way he effortlessly directs the model and sees and finds multiple frames (all with completely different looks and feels) while never moving from that one location is the mark of a true photographic artist. Too many people nowadays sitting around pixel-peeping and complaining about the wrong stuff. They've completely forgotten the "Art" of photography. Thanks Jason for being a great artist and often inspiring me in my own creativity.

Shooting in direct sunlight, on camera flash... you not read the rule book mister? But get that balance right, which you have, and it looks awesome, so hats off to you, very nice work, the model looks gorgeous too! After like 27 years of photography i am trying speedlighting for the first time, your videos do help a lot, and your approach really works, minimal gear... anyway, enough youtube, im off out with my camera, speedlights, and sh!t loads of light mods =)

@AlexandraStarr1974
@AlexandraStarr1974 9 лет назад
+Stephen Soukup, Niekerk is a new name for me, and to be honest i have only been watching jasons videos for a few months at most now, so i am well behind with speedlighting, though i did studio work a few years ago quite a bit with models, the only time i really mixed bright ambient lighting (almost like the light on this video) with off camera flash and a homemade mod on top, the results were actually pretty hot, but i think i got lucky with that one, and i guess in my mind i was like, well i done off camera flash now, i can stop lol Certainly going to document my shoots from now on, though i would hate it if people thought i was directly ripping Jason off, with his urbex and strobist shooting, but i have used abandoned places to shoot in for the past 15 years or more, absolutely love derelict places, so much character, history, potential, decay, grit, even romance, which is why i am really envious of my fellow americans over the pond, you have some amazingly preserved dereliction there, entire industries laid to waste, just mesmerising =) hell, im gonna go out and shoot today!

Love this video. This wide angle, high depth of field examples are fantastic. I need to take back a comment I made a while back, how JL is very one dimensional photographer, relying to much on long lens, large aperture half shots ( I refer as "cheap bokeh trick"). This video was made quite a while ago, so maybe he did fall into the pressure of "selling" large aperture, expensive portrait lenses, more akin to his later videos.

Why would you compliment your camera friend as, "Chris looking sexy," and to the model as "good crap"? I found that rude and unprofessional.
@JasonLanierPhotography
@JasonLanierPhotography 9 лет назад
+Brandon Emmanuel Get a life. If I'd called the model sexy you'd have a heart attack. You PC police are unreal. In the same sentence I called myself "bad crap" and that was after explaining the difference between good crap and bad crap. It's all about context, and also about not taking yourself too seriously. You're right though, the model was mortified by my rudeness...so much so that she refused to shoot and walked off the set. Oh, that's right, that never happened.
@brandonemmanuel2679
@brandonemmanuel2679 9 лет назад
+Jason Lanier Like I said, that was my opinion alone and of course the model is not going to run away since she has already devoted time and expenses to be there with you. I'm just simply stating what it was said and done as a friendly advise as a customer's perspective.
@JasonLanierPhotography
@JasonLanierPhotography 9 лет назад
+Brandon Emmanuel Everyone has opinions, that doesn't necessarily make them correct. Sometimes it's hard for you guys watching because you come into the scene abruptly. You haven't spent the day together like we have in real life. So you're seeing us without any of the benefit of having spent the day(s) with us. It's important to remember that when you're watching.
@brandonemmanuel2679
@brandonemmanuel2679 9 лет назад
+Jason Lanier true and not true. As a photographer and youtuber you should present yourself as how you want to be depicted. Again, that's my opinion, but in the true world you should need to be more alert to what you say to your customers. There again they are your videos and these section are what your viewers think. If not satisfied with what your viewers are saying, then might as well disable the comment section. I was just stating my opinion, not for you to take at heart. I guess afterall you just wanted a "good job" in the comments instead of us, the viewers, to connect with you and interchange thoughts and ideas to provide a more better experience just like the other photographers are doing to make them look more professional.. just saying. then again, it might just be me.
@JasonLanierPhotography
@JasonLanierPhotography 9 лет назад
My clients hire me for my style, not yours. Your clients may not like my approach, mine do. Your clients might be offended by my style, you'd probably bore mine. Don't assume your style is for everyone. I know mine isn't but I don't go around telling others what they should do. That's pretty presumptuous brother.
