Ayyyy shoutout the class of 2025! And congrats on getting into med school! I would recommend checking out the other addons I have. I went through quite a few to find the ones I thought were actually useful for me. You can do the same! Using the ones I have may be a good starting point for you!
@@EvolvingMedic Thank you my guy! I will definitely look into them! Also, side question haha, which specialty are you most leaning towards? Just curious lol.
Saw this video 2 years ago! Came back to it again as I was accepted to medical school and am looking to familiarize myself with Anki. From the videos I've seen this on this topic, yours was the simplest, most straightforward one yet. Thanks for the value you add to the medical community.
Thank you so much!! That really means a lot and encourages me to keep doing my best to provide more content and value to the community! Congratulations on getting accepted to medical school! You’re going to crush it!
I’ve done the same thing hahah! But this year when I started medical school, I tried to implement it but couldn’t navigate properly ): couldn’t find all or enough questions for w topic because its not easy to finddd.. how did yiu do it?
Started M1 a little bit ago and anki has proven to be very useful in such little time. Would love to see a "tips for incoming first-years" video! Keep up the great work
Such a great video JR, just started as a M1 and was looking for exactly this type of video to understand all the rave about Anki. Broke it down thoroughly and simply, such an underrated channel. Keep the great content coming my man! And good luck for the year ahead!
I am an incoming M1 and found this video super helpful and most importantly easy to understand. You should consider teaching medical school students in the future.
I’m so excited to set up my new iPad Air 4. I’m definitely gonna use Anki for during my medical school journey 😄. Btw, I suggest you make a video on the best productivity apps for medical students and how you manage your time well. I bet that’ll be super helpful for most people including myself.
I’m glad to hear you’ll be using Anki! I think it really is the best way to approach medical school! And here are a couple videos I’ve made on those topics!: Apps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hdfsPv8OFEQ.html Managing time: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UyEc1y9yKoI.html
0:12 Lol you know the goin is gettin tough when you have to check to see if the waves are still intact. Fortunately anki can alleviate some of the stress. Lol. Thanks for the video bro. Hope everything is going well in med school second year.
So you are able to find the right cards for the lecture, by watching the content on the 3rd party resources? Do you need to invest in B&B, first aid, Osmosis etc? 3) do you keep cards unsuspended from semester 1 in semester2 or like from M1 to M2? Basically do you suspend any cards you once studied like biochemistry etc? Lastly do you still keep up with Anki during residency? I use anki but it’s hard for me to find cards as I can’t see/access the tags. Like i cant untoggle them… I tried to adjust my add-ons to yours but it’s still the same
Hi!! Flashcards are really useful and have helped me a lot during college. the only problem is the time I spend making the flashcards. Is there a platform that already has ready-made flashcards by category/speciality?
Hi ... you seem to be a young cool doctor ! Really enjoyed your video ... Any chance i can get in touch with you and ask you for advices... my usmle journey been full of challenges, I do need help .. thanks
Hey guys! I'm kinda new to the habit of doing anki daily and I'd like to know if i've been doing it correctly, but I still don't know how to interpret the stats. Could you please help me undestand if i'm doing ok and where I need to work on in order to improve my anki performance? The following are my stats: Days Studied: 31/31 (100%) Answer Buttons: Learning 77,55% | Young 91,48% | Mature 93,45% Average Ease: 263% Average Reviews/day: 420 Thank you!
Hey Andre! Great question! I think the most important start is days studied. As long as you are doing it every day, you are doing Anki the right way. I wouldn’t read into the other stats much. If you found that you were missing a lot of cards and wanted to see them more frequently, you can lower the interval modifier in the settings. You can also increase the interval modifier if you’d like to have cards pushed out at greater lengths. But I would just focus on building your streak of doing Anki daily. Your test performance will be the main indicator of how you’re doing.
thank you for making this video! I'm curious though... how do you ensure that you unsuspend all the cards that correlate to lecture just by using the tags? Especially if you arent using all of the third party resources. Do you just kind of guess? Like if you were in a cardiology block you'd just try to unsuspend anything that seems to correlate to cardio?
Great question! So the third party video(s) correspond to the topic I am learning in class. So I’m Cardio for example, when I am learning about heart failure, I can go to the boards and beyond tag on heart failure and unsuspend those cards. Many times I use the third party resources to replace or in addition to my lecture, but the material is more or less the same. I don’t use the “cardio” tag, I use the tags under the third party resources that correspond to my lectures. I hope that makes sense! Please let me know if it still doesn’t and I will try to explain further.
Hi, I'm having a hard time finding where to download the Anking deck from? Apparently, the link you gave doesn't work, and the most updated version has to be paid for on Ankihub... 🤷🏽♀
I used the Annetermy deck for anatomy which was great! And I think having a video resource (for me it was B&B and/or Sketchy) and a QBank for practice questions (UWorld is the standard) is key
Thanks alot I am final year medical student, and l have just one exam left and l have only 12 days left 😅 I have never done anki cards before but l used to solve questions in MCQ resourses. Can l try doing some ankies? Or l just will waste my time since no enough days left!
You can definitely play around with Anki during these last few days, but I wouldn’t think that it would be as beneficial as doing practice questions since the benefit in Anki comes from long term use. But if you’ve done well so far I’m sure you’re going to do great on your final exam too!! 🙏🏽
Just a question, but aren’t you a little worried that some of those pre made cards may be wrong? That’s the only thing keeping me from downloading pre made decks.
That’s definitely a fair concern! But these cards have been thoroughly vetted and I unlock them as I learn them in class and I haven’t found anything so far. You can always edit a card too if you wanted to add information or change it
Nupe my son is a M!1 and Im trying to help him get on the right path. Im going to invest into Anki but how to successfully utilize it quickly is the point? What are your suggestions?
He is at Meharry. Im old school I told hi, to find partners and form groups to study. But now most people are study alone. So do you study with people or do you study alone?
Yo! Congrats to your son for starting medical school! I can’t think of many additional tips regarding Anki outside of the things mentioned in this video. Anki is really just about consistency and trying to make it a daily habit. Let me know if your son has any questions!
@@EvolvingMedic Thank you Yo....I am going to support and help him succeed you know it's about achievement. I have encourage him to set up Anki from your vids. Anything you come up with Frat let me know. He is looking early at Dermatology so doing well on his boards is important.
Hellooo! Wanted to ask about your preference for anking over other decks as it relates to school material. I am just finishing my first sem in year 1, and so far havent used anking as the info is quite more in depth and different for school exams. BUT, starting next sem we are shifting to a systems based curriculum so perhaps itll help then. Do you think I should still be using it regardless of it relating to school and instead prioritize the long game of step 1/2? Thanks!
Great question! I think trying to incorporate as much of the Anking deck as possible should be a priority so you can be prepared for step. But if you have to also study class specific material, you may have to cut back a bit from the standardized material (eg, Anking). It really depends on how good you can do while prioritizing Anking, because step will ultimately be a more important exam than your class exams. But you definitely don’t want to fail any class exams because you’re studying the wrong things. It’s all about finding that balance! I hope this helps and good luck! Hopefully things will be more congruent in your systems based curriculum!
Do you share anki cards with other students? I am trying to figure out how to give classmates access to the cards I make without having to re-share the deck daily. Do you know of any other way?
That’s a great question and shoutout to you for wanting to help your classmates! It is hard to share while you are still adding to a deck. What some of us do is share our decks the week of finals once they’re relatively finished for people who would just want to review class content. But the vast majority of us at my school use Anking so it hasn’t been too much of a problem. I wish there was an easier way to go about this! But it’s encouraging to see you wanting to help your class!
So, we are just starting systems and I was told to start this deck with that to be ready for boards next year. Should I unsuspend all the topics from the first semester...any biochem, micro, phys etc, and be doing that along with any new material, or should I keep those topics suspended until they come up again in later courses?
That’s a great question. I would probably leave them unsuspended if you will get to those cards again in other classes. If you have free time you can always unlock chunks of cards and start chipping away, but since you’ll review those topics again you can definitely just wait until then
You can go to browse, highlight all the cards you want to restart (you can use “cmd a”) and then click reschedule. This should allow you to restart your deck!
