Thanks for showing all these lovely setups! What lamp guards are you using? Would you say they’re safe enough to use with snakes who love to climb, don’t the guards themselves get too hot?
Hi, I mostly use Arcadia lamp guards with Arcadia lamp holders. They are safe for snakes, I use them in my snake setups and have not had any issues. To be fair I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of my snakes wrapped around the lamp guards.
So the DHP isn’t strong enough as a main heat source on its own right? I have one to and its staying at 80F when i have it set to 95F in a fairly large pvc enclosure.
Yeah I thought that and so some enclosures I add a second heat source. although as long as there is a hot spot I find my pythons do well enough. The house is warm enough anyway with all the other tanks so depends on your house temps too.
Sorry for long reply, not been active due to work commitments. The cage is not mandatory, however highly recommended to prevent the snake wrapping around the light and burning itself or breaking the bulb. All my snake enclosures have guards on the heat source.
Yes always use a thermostat to stop overheating, the type depends on your setup but you can order online, I find internet reptile usually have good prices.
According to the specs, it will reach temps of 36degrees Celsius at a distance of 400mm or 16”. It can outperform a 100watt bulb. I guess you have to look at the size of your enclosure and the requirements of the reptile. Sometimes I will but two side by side, or one bulb and one DHP next to each other so both can be used during the day but only the DHP at night so as not to disturb the animal. Then you can also maintain night temps.
