I love this stuff. I'm a quilter and it's important to press at every step. The scent is light and pleasant. I use it only on one side of the fabric and there isn't a stiff feel at all.

Been using this for years. Love it!! Can't tell you how many bottles I have emptied! My local quilt shop offers bottle refills at a little savings.

This is the ONLY starch or starch-like product I have used that completely eliminates the "fold line" in fabric. You know that annoying fold right in the middle of your yardage (parallel to the selvages). I've tried everything to get rid of that line, but Mary Ellen's is the only thing that works. And I'm one of those folks who like to shake, shake, shake, and then spray. It seems to spray a more fine and even mist. Plus, the bottle seems to last longer.

Because it costs so much, I take some of it and put in a separate bottle mixed with water. So I have two bottles, a light mix and the original which I labeled "stronger." I make it last! Love my Lavender scent. Great review.

I love it but being in South Africa it costs me triple the price once I have paid delivery and custom charges. I have read that cheap vodka added with essential oil does the job :-) I am going to try - nothing to lose right?

This is not my idea. Bonnie hunter just posted what she has started doing to prevent staining her ironing surfaces at retreats. She covers with freezer paper shiny side done onto the iron board. I have not tried this yet but will be soon. I also do like best press.

I buy it and pour some in another bottle and dilute with water. So I have one at full strength and one that's not. I only spray one side and only smooth on occasion. I know that's not the correct way but it works for me. Great review.

Bought a gallon of this Best Press because of the positive reviews of this product. HONESTLY, I hate it. There is something about this product that makes me cough. Tried different scents, unscented, full strength, diluted, dry iron, steam iron & different spray bottles. I've followed the instructions, same coughing and weird feeling in my throat. Sprayed this onto my fabric outside and when I put the iron on it, same result. I've switched to Flatter and NO PROBLEM. I recently learned of other people having the same issue with this product. Sorry Sue, you and others may like Best Press, but it's not for me.

@@SookieSews Yes. The effect was not as bad. I thought it prudent to switch to a product that I had no reactions to. Flatter by Soak is what I now use. It's fantastic!

C LOMBARD Are you working for Flatter? I feel like your review is slandering Best Press with the obvious intention of promoting Flatter. As the chemist that develops all the products for Mary Ellen, I can guarantee there is nothing in Scent-Free Best Press that would be causing a cough or irritated throat. There is nothing toxic, chemical, or dangerous in Best Press. It is 100% alcohol-free, chemical-free, toxin-free, biodegradable and safe. Never in 20 years have we had a compliant of this kind.

Oh no! If I had to guess I’d say be sure to shake really good, adjust your iron temp down slightly, and spray on wrong side. Good luck.

@SookieSews

So interesting! I'd be curious where you live? I am in Florida and it is 80-95 most of the year with lots of humidity. So things don't evaporate here :) but you should let them know that is happening. I am sure they would be interested to hear more about that.

Tracine Charest i have found a sticky ring under my bottle after leaving it for a couple of weeks. It seems like it very slowly leaks out of the bottle somehow. I think turning the spray to 'off' has solved this for me but I'm still watching for it happening again. It's soooo expensive and hard to get hold of in my country so I was pretty annoyed to lose a quarter bottle or so!

Any suggestions for the tackiness that gets on my iron and leaves white marks on fabric? Also gets on my ironing board cover since I use it on finsihed projects and when make lanyards. Thx!
@SookieSews
@SookieSews 4 года назад
Best thing is to spray on the wrong side of the fabric. Let it set in (about 30 seconds) and then press from the right side of the fabric. Your iron should never touch the liquid.

@@discobabedesigns4223 weirdly enough I use a sheet or two of plain baking paper (the kind that doesn't have ink lines on it) to "protect" my iron... I also use a really cheap iron cover from Kmart (here in Australia, it was like $5) so it doesn't matter too much if it gets a little stained :)

@@SookieSews I am a quilter and love using Best Press to get my seams as flat as possible. However my biggest problem has been what seems to be staining or transferring onto my fabric after I have pressed and also terrible staining on my ironing board covers. I do the same thing that Loraliciousxo does with purchasing a cheap ironing board cover that I buy at Walmart and placing it over my pressing board. But still I have problems with staining sometimes. Is there a preferred temperature setting on the iron when using Best Press? Help! I want to continue using Best Press but I don't want to permanently ruin my good fabrics when I sew!

How cool and Oh that’s a good question. I wonder if a crochet expert or crafting expert might have the answer. My first thought was like real starch. Maybe google that.
