In this chemistry tutorial video, I first go through what a bond energy or bond enthalpy is and two factors that affect bond length and strength, and thus bond energy: bond order (type of bond like single vs. double vs triple) and radius. We recall that a longer bond is a weaker bond, and a shorter bond is a stronger bond, and we relate this to the Potential energy diagram of a bond formation.
I then go through how to calculate ΔH or the heat or enthalpy of a reaction using bond energies (sum of bonds broken - sum of bonds formed) and go through two examples step by step with tips to keep in mind.
