Hey everyone! Hope this video helped you out. If you haven't already, feel free to check out some of my more recent content. We are busy with a few different really awesome FS19 series that you might enjoy. Also please consider subscribing if you haven't already, it really helps me out and I greatly appreciate it. Have a good one and stay awesome!
Finally, I can finally understand those damn gearboxes! All these tutorial how to make automatic gearboxes, fuel efficient engines blah blah blah. But they never show how to set up the gearboxes themselves. Thank you, you deserve more subs.
hello and great video, i reviewed the instant 15 min several times but I have a question, in case of an engine with 2 gearboxes in wich I want a 6:5 for top speed and a default 9:5 plus reverse, how shall I program my 2 gearboxes?
Slightly outdated but still very useful, thank you. After 20 hours of trying to get a boat to move and a fight with the devs educating them that all boats and ships have a clutch. Earlier tutorials show using toggle buttons newer show throttle levers. What they really need to do is have in Game tutorials to teach people these mechanics
For some reason, if you accidentally flipping the circuit breaker off, then the whole system no cannot be control anymore and the power immediately blackout even though engine is running. The reason for that is because generator *ELECTRIC POWER* was directly connect to the battery. I do connect *power* generator to the battery on my boat and it was slammed into the oil rig the fact that my boat no longer be control as I flip the circuit breaker off. So, leave it generator power connect from the circuit breaker electric B as the power still running until the engine turn off.
Hi Strogg. There are many different ways to wire things to make them do certain things at certain times. You can use many different modules and relays to get it to do what you need it to do and when to do it but for the sake of tutorials I keep it as simple as possible. 😀
Hi koolkole27, I do not play civilization. I play a bit of Arma 3 and would love to get more into it but it will be a while before it will feature on the channel. 😀
Me too!! I'm at my witts end with my engine stalling - I've tried pointing the gearboxes both directions and nothing works - triple checked all my work...I'm so close to just quitting this game after a month of tinkering with NOTHING to show for it
Hey Rob, the gear ratios did change quite some time ago in an update but this video was more to show the basic concept of how it all works and how it should all be put together which is still the same. The gear ratios that will be used will vary in just about every vehicle that you build and it is mostly a trial and error process to get them right. I am however looking to do a series of updated how to videos on Stormworks as soon as I have time to do so. Feel free to let me know if you get stuck with something in meantime and I will try and help where I can. 😀👍
Please be more specific when saying 'point the arrow towards the engine for more speed'. Do you mean that the gear ratios are reversed? So instead of 2:1 its 1:2? i.e. the torque of the system is doubled rather than halfed?
No, it literally means that when placing the gearbox the arrows need to point towards the engine. 👍 Also in a later update the ratios where reversed but the same basic principles still apply. Don't get too bogged down with gear ratio's...what I gave in this video was simply to explain what should happen...ratios will be different in every scenario as size, weight, application etc. will be different for every build.
@@DavidMarksTV How would I get a different ratio? Is there a way to get a 1:2 ratio? So far I have been operating under the assumption that if i reverse the gearbox the ratio would be reversed.
Right okay my apologies, I get what you are saying now. I haven't played StormWorks in a very long time but if I remember correctly you are correct in saying that having the gearbox arrows facing towards or away from the engine will reverse the ratio. Pointing towards the engine should give you more torque and away from the engine should give you more speed as the ratio's reverse.
Idk if I'm doing something wrong I have the engine throttle set to w and s. Engine clutch on up and down and gen clutch on left and right. Without engaging the the gears and just balancing the rpms to the clutch I get more speed and power. When I go in the 1st gear I got slower. 2nd gear I'm struggling. 1:1 and 1,2 ratio. But reverse works excellent if I don't stall it.. am I missing somthing?
I would suggest playing around with different gear ratios till you find a good balance, something like 9:5. If you still loose speed using gears then you most likely don't have enough power for the amount of drag of your vehicle. You would then have to add more engines or a bigger one or reduce the weight and drag of your vehicle.
i build the same thing you did, but my engine just blows up xD no idea what im doing wrong here. i even played the video in slomotion and floowed it step by step.
Hey wolf guard, there have been many updates to the game since I made this video so engine temps etc might be vastly different now but the general design should still be fine. I would suggest adding gauges and monitor you engine RPM and Temp and make sure you have an effective cooling system (Eninges will blow at a temp of around 120 if I remember correctly). Adding more radiators will increase cooling which means you can run at higher RPM. You could also use a pump if you are building a boat and pump water through but that is a whole different system. An alternative is use the select tool as you would to change gearbox ratios and click on the engine and reduce the RPM limiter to avoid overheating. Hope you get it sorted. I will be doing new updated vids in the near future for Stormworks.
@@DavidMarksTV thank you for the responds, yes when you look at the engine there is no more info on what the engine does. also the gearboxes have diffrent settings. 1:2 and 1:3 is now 2:1 and 3:1 and more. i love playing the game allot but its a real brain breaker without any tips and tricks from the game xD i`ll give the water cooling a try today :D again merci for the reply, and im looking forward to the new vids!
@@DavidMarksTV thanks for the reply. If I build a boat with a small diesel engine and gearboxes with the ratios you've just said, when I change gear it just bogs down, am i low on power?
@@DaveTibbetts Yes you are low on power, you can use less aggressive gear ratios, if that doesnt fix it then there is most likely more drag and weight than the engine can handle. You could consider making the boat either smaller, lighter, more hydrodynamic or all of the above. You could also add another engine or upgrade to a medium engine if unlocked :)
@@DavidMarksTV tried adding another engine didn't seem to make abit of difference! I'll keep playing around with it! What would the least aggressive gear ratio be, but a step up from 1:1?
