Hi Sam, I know this is an old video but can you help me? I have a 0% Health SSD and I can't seem to find any other red indication other than that. What does that mean?
@SamHayden
@SamHayden 27 дней назад
Hey good morning, thanks for reaching out, happy to help where I can. So I know a while back it was reported that CrystalDiskInfo had some weird thing where it was falsely reporting 0% health. So it for sure could be a false positive, but to make sure I say try a couple other applications. First off there is “HD Tune” You can get that here: www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/hd_tune.html#google_vignette There is also an application called HDDscan. You can get that here: hddscan.com/ Both of these are great tools. I say run it through both of these and if they show issues with the drive, replace it. If not, you are good to go and CrystalDiskInfo is probably just being a jerk….Either way, please make sure your data is backed up, then if it does go belly up, you at least have your data. I hope this helps, thanks again for reaching out!

I use this and have used this for years. I have it on all my machines. But one thing I can't seem to find, is if there's a way to do a full "factory reset" so that if I uninstall and reinstall, it would be "fresh." Sadly, reinstall or even update, carries over settings. The only reason I would like to reset (without having to manually scrub the registry) is because I have a WD Blue SA510 1tB SSD and it's not reporting correctly at all. Like right now, it says power on time 250 hours. LOL It's been in for months. Before this drive, I had the same make/model, WD Blue SA510 in the machine. Same exact drive and firmware level too. That drive reported perfectly. It was showing thousands of hours, but more importantly, it showed how the life was reducing, which is why I replaced it, just for safety. I need to see the real condition of the current drive. Sure, I could not be lazy and just remove it, take it up to my Lab computer, pop it into a USB box and see how it reads then. I'm also gong to prepare a Crucial SSD to replace this one, just in case. Any ideas on how to reset the software? Or perhaps someone uses this same make/model of drive and can chime in. Thanks in advance.

I do not believe there is a way to reset the software. I took a quick look and am not seeing anything. Only thing that I can suggest is use revo uninstaller so when it uninstalls it, it goes into the registry and file structure and removes all traces of it. I believe it is most likely a config file embedded in the file system or a registry entry that is retaining your hardware. So yeah revo will remove those and may do the trick. Sounds like you are pretty up to speed on this stuff so you may know abotu revo, if not, i do have a video on that as well, which can be found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0IOTWUFVzNc.html Thanks for the comment, i appreciate you watching the video and interacting with me and others on my channel.

Just to help people with the life for their SSDs, I want to share this. This works for any version of windows, but this issue started with Windows 7, which I do keep going on THIS computer due to all my security cameras. long story.... My SSDs "die" rather quickly (just a few months and the life counts down). The problem is that Window is CONSTANTLY writing freak'n log files. I first tried to get it to write to a mechanical drive that I installed as a spare. At first, it didn't work, but I researched the issue and found that there's a certain way to force windows to write the files to a different drive/folder. I won't go into those details as the info is just a search away. It was a big job, because there's a lot more logging that one may realize. Same with my Windows 10 boxes. But once I forced Windows to log to a mechanical drive and stop writing logs to the SSD, the life is now good. So where possible, I highly recommend to have all logs pointing to some other, non-important drive (even a cheap USB 3.0 drive). The faster the better, of course. It'll save the SSD and extend its life. Hope that helps.

Hi, i got a SSD "refurbished" and the hours on count is 6000 but the life "good" is 99%? I contacted the seller and he said they refurbished it and the hours is the OLD hours not the new after Sandisk? had done it before he sold itto me. So if 6000 hours, ir wouldnt be reading 99% , more likely 80% or much lower so could he be telling the truth but why didnt the manufacturer reset the hours if they put in fresh unworn memory chips if thats what wears out in "life%" . Any ideas? I cant find a contact for CDinfo to ask them. Thanks
@SamHayden
@SamHayden 5 месяцев назад
Hi there, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. So I would think that 6000 hours is not the same as read and writes and it could be that the drive only had power on hours and not many reads and writes that couldf account for the 99% and "good". I would also be curious to know what the seller defines as "refurbished" Did they explain what their definition of refurbished is? Anyway just my guess on that.
@xx3868
@xx3868 5 месяцев назад
@@SamHayden Yeah 6000 hours is year and a half!! So a long time but idling maybe with no action to "wear" the memory and thus 99%. I might have a long life for $20, BUT i will be emailing back to seller and asking point blank if the manufacturer replaced anything or just deep erased and not even reset the firmware which would zero the hours ect. No, this is "used" and tested perhaps and thats it. and will be giving feedback to that affect unless seller proves otherwise. Ebay is very strict on these things so perhaps they be interested? hmm 6000 hours is what it reads NOW, not the "old" data, thats stupid and i defy the seller to explain that away.

Hi, thanks for the comment. If your health status is at 64% first thing I would do is make for certain that you have a backup in place for that drive and then I plan on replacign that drive in the near future. Just please make sure you have a backup for it in cause the drive dies. You should be good for a while but you also never know. Hope this helps, thanks again for the comment and for watching

@SamHayden
@SamHayden 6 месяцев назад
Hi, thanks for commenting, so if you are getting yellow on reallocated sector count, I would make sure you have good backups and keep an eye on the error count. If it starts going up, I would plan to replace the drive. Biggest thing, please make sure you have backups of your important data. Usually this is an indication of a drive slowly strating to head on its way out. Hard to say how long until it happens though. Hope this helps! Thanks again for the comment and for watching!

heyo, currently having issues, does 100 percent health mean its healthy completely or healthy at the moment? Ive had times where my games just dont open and clicking my S: drive location says, "does not exist," i reboot my pc and its back to normal?
@SamHayden
@SamHayden 8 месяцев назад
Depends, if you run the test and it says 100% health then that is just what is it sees that moment. If you have a issue with the drive where at times it is not seen by the system as you describe, that could be a whole different issue. Point is, if you system sees the drive and crystaldiskinfo shows it 100%, then it would seem that the drive, as far as data retention is fine. I think you probably have another issue happening with the drive or the sata controller it is plugged into in your system. If it were me, id take another drive, plug it in where that one is and test it for a while, if the behavoir stops then you know you have a drive issue, if it continues, probably an issue with the sata connector (Or whatever interface) that it is plugged into. I hope this helps! I appreciate you watching and commenting

Hi, my C drive is a SATA SSD and it's displaying just dashes (- - - -) instead of "Total Host Reads" and the amount is also just displaying dashes i.e. no GB amounts, is that something to be worried about? Same thing for my old HDD drives that I just use for storing videos and photos, but I am not as worried about those as I intend to upgrade them soon enough. Good video, helped me understand what I was looking at!

@SamHayden
@SamHayden Год назад
Hi, hey thanks for the comment, I do appreciate it. So this tool just shows specifications and health on drives, and it does this instantly, so no it does not take long, when you click on the drive you want to view, it should populate the data right away. If not, you may have an issue.

@@SamHayden Very interesting, thank you! Come to think of it, people were talking about it taking hours specifically when doing a SMART test on a 4+ TB drive. I've been on a Mac for years and years so this is all a bit new for me, but fun to get into none the less.

Hello, I bought a new laptop and I have doubts that the ssd is not new, but used. CrystalDiskinfo shows: Total host reads: 947GB Total host writes: 889GB Power on count: 748 Power on hours: 50 hours I have installed only Windows 11, 140GB for games and some small programs. I did the check about a day after i bought the laptop. Is it normal to have so many reads/writes operations?
@SamHayden
@SamHayden Год назад
Hey thanks for the comment I would say that I agree with you, especially with the power on count. There is no way that a new hard drive should be showing 748 power ons. The power on hours I wouldnt be so concerned about because maybe they let it sit powered on for sometime before boxing them up, like as a test or something But I dont know if they do that or not. Like i said, I agree I dont think that hard drive is new as stated. i would contact the manufacturer and have it replaced. Unless of course it is a mechanic drive, then I would just replace with an VNME/SSD. Thanks again for the comment and watching. if you are a new subscriber, thank you!
