My cat loves sleeping in our big bay window and whenever a big thunderstorm comes through, I’m cowering in my bed but when I go to check on my cat, she’s snoring away in her favorite big bay window at night without a care in the world. We never had to do anything to get her desensitized, she’s always naturally never been afraid of storms.

It just depends on their experience, especially during very early life.

Thanks for this, it makes a lot of sense. What is your advice once you get to actually trim their nails, is there a way to cease the treats or do we have to give treats ad infinitum? :) I like to crank the tunes as well, and I think it has helped my skittish guy become a bit less sensitive than he used to be. Thanks for your videos!

Thanks for watching! I recommend continuing the treats. You want to continue the positive association for your cat, but you may not have to offer as many as before. Sporadic reinforcement can be even stronger than continuous reinforcement. Just ask casino owners. :)

I was wondering what to use as a reward to help my cat to not be afraid of dogs. She doesn’t like any kind of treats! She will only eat the food she’s used to everyday. I keep her dry kibble out all day, ( refreshing it once in awhile during the day) for breakfast and dinner she eats at least 2 different flavors of canned food. After she eats the can of one flavor the next can is the other flavor so she never gets bored with the same taste. She’s the most finicky cat I’ve ever had! But I love her so much and want what’s best for her.

In my experience, there's almost always something that every cat is willing to work for. Sometimes it's a human food like rotisserie chicken. You may also need to give them time to decide that they like it. Offering something once is just an introduction. Offering it once a day can sometimes help. The most important thing is to keep trying new things until you find something she responds to.
