Pretty awesome work. I always wanted to try Soiltac at Protrac, but I don't ride BMX anymore. Do you ever do trail building?

Thanks Evan! It would be cool done up at protrac! I have my own secret trail system I’ve been working on for years but no paid gigs yet! Should be doing something cool at sunrise ski resort this summer with my tractor and crew 🤫

That was awesome, man!! What a great resource. I have heard that cured soil tac can be a huge pain in the butt if you have a blowout. What’s your experience? Also, I’m wondering if there is a way to prevent blowouts by mixing soiltac into a 4 inch thick layer of soft dirt on top, then packing and riding it in while it’s damp with SoilTac, THEN doing some slurry on top. Thoughts? Thanks again man!

As far as patch work I have had almost none in the past 3 years, however I’d just soak the area with some glue and add around 5 layers of slurry over that area. It would most likely stand out as a slightly different color when finished patching. I think that method you mentioned would work fantastic for jumps maybe focusing on one jump at a time. It dries pretty quick so you want to make sure it all gets packed very well and close to shape the first time as you can really only add layers after your first use. But ya, the thicker layer with glue would be great! Maybe do the thick 4in layer and then a few rounds of thinner slurry over it for the ticket 🎟️ if you make the slurry itself too thick it could get a bit cracked apart and get harder to work with. It’s definitely one of those things to spend the extra time so don’t have to for awhile! Thanks for the questions!

Thank you so much for that sharing of expertise, it's really cool . One thing I miss, where do you buy Soilworks SoilTac ?, and how much does it costs ?
@skillsandbuilds3987

Thanks for the questions! I get it at “Ewing Irrigation” a “Landscape Supply Store”. It costs roughly $115 for 5gal. There are many other brands as well, this is just what I’m experienced with. We use about 1.5 containers “7.5 gallons” for this berm which is about what I would recommend to do the job well. More coats the better and can always add more over time.

We use this at our local track and my question is, how do you fix big ‘potholes’ and ruts that develop on the track from weather after it is treated with that stuff?
@skillsandbuilds3987
@skillsandbuilds3987 11 месяцев назад
I like to keep several buckets of sifted clean dirt like I made in this video and what I generally try to do is actually dig out the area you are trying to patch even a bit more if possible and then I soak the hole with soil tac solution and then after that add in the sifted dirt mixed with soil tac and pack in like fixing a normal track. Try and do a really good job packing in like you would on a normal track and maybe soak once more then you could even add a coat or two of slurry’s to finish it off. Hope this helps!

I wonder how much like elmers glue or titebond wood glue soiltac is?
@skillsandbuilds3987
@skillsandbuilds3987 3 месяца назад
I do too! I hear Elmer’s glue works, never tried myself. Also you can buy 5 gallon jugs of wood glue from home depot that works well too 👌

@@skillsandbuilds3987 well I took a deep dive on the ingredients on soil tac/terraglue and the MSDS says it's 55% (synthetic vinyl copolymer dispersion) and 45% water, PVAc is a synthetic vinyl polymer and when added to water it's "dispersed". PVAc or polyvinyl acetate is the main ingredient in elmers glue and most wood glues.

Hey man! I would try going to a “landscape supply” shop. Out here in Arizona we have 2 landscape supply shops in can think of. “Ewing Irrigation” and “Site One”. They sell “soil tac” and other brands that also work well. Hope this helps! If all that fails. You can use “wood glue” from Lowe’s or homedepot. They sell it in 5 gallon jugs too, but usually costs a little more.

@@skillsandbuilds3987 Thanks, is $250 for 5 gallons about the right price? Seems expensive like that would be the price for a barrel.

Would you say it’s a good idea to mix some concrete powder with some dirt and make a nice layer over my jumps to make them more solid? I’m in the process of building a track at the moment
@skillsandbuilds3987

Sorry for the late reply! I think that is a great idea but I’ve never tested it!
@TFBDesigns

Awesome, I’m about to try it. Do you allow each layer to dry for 12 hours between each layer of slurry? Or do you do all 5 layers then let it dry for 12 hours?
@skillsandbuilds3987
@skillsandbuilds3987 2 года назад
I would say its a good idea to let dry between coats! First coat is most important, its all about getting it to soak deep, so it takes the longest to apply. Once it’s got a rock hard surface the next couple layers go faster. Here in az the berms were drying soo quick after round 1, but we let the first coat dry completely, at least 12hr+ would be a good idea for 1st coat and then just go by sight/touch from there.

Whats the chances this would hold up over a pennsylvania winter?

Sorry for the late reply! Ya know, I have no idea. I would experiment and try to not trap too much moisture if possible!

Is there a link to buy that stuff?
@skillsandbuilds3987
@skillsandbuilds3987 Год назад
Unfortunately I don’t know of a link. I would recommend going to a landscape supply store and ask if they have any ground hardening soil stabilizer. If no luck there, you can use the big tubs of wood glue from homedepot with similar results. Hope this helps 👍

How much does soil tac cost?
@skillsandbuilds3987
@skillsandbuilds3987 Год назад
Hey there, it cost around $115 per 5 gallon jug here in AZ. I would say you would want around 1.5-2 containers to do a corner really nice with many coats.
