My excel 2013 won't populate the rest of the table when I type "=Table1[#All]" instead it gives me a #VALUE! error. What's wrong? What am I doing wrong? I'm using excel 2013 because it's a work computer, and I have table names active in formulas
👍 Best video I've seen on Structured References. I noticed that when you said type the table name it appeared straight away... did you use a shortcut key?

Very good explanation. I however miss the following I need to concatenate the name of the table in one cell with a table reference.. The reason is I have multiple sheets with 1 (or more) tables in each. On each sheet I need calculations (e.g. count/countif/etc.) at the top using the table, so I need calculations referencing a local table's name that I could copy to all sheets. How can I concatenate the calculated sheet name (=table name) with the rest of the reference. Like: =Countif($A$1 & [[#Data],[Actual], "North"), with $A$1 containing the table's name.. I also would like a formula to point to a cell in the table to give me that table's name.
Hello. I found your video somewhat helpful but it did not help me solve MY particular problem. Here is what I am trying to accomplish. I have a table on the first sheet and I want to use a structured reference to that table on the second sheet. Using your table above (for example) I need to reference value from a cell (Row - Postage and Column - Actual). On your sheet it is C13. So if I use "='FirstSheet'!$C13" I get the value I need. However, if the table is sorted alphabetically data is scrambled and my reference is now wrong as it shows a new value. My issue that the value is not dynamically updated if the table is. So my question - how do I reference value in the cell of the table dynamically so it is not affected if table sorting is changed?
Please look into using an Indirect function or using pivot table - please let us know if it works for you. Prepare your tables with references. Select the table (with references) and insert Pivot Table In the pivot table, select required filters to make the Pivot table look as your original Table (if needed). Sort / filter data further as required. Just be sure to right click on Pivot table and hit "refresh" each time you change some generic data (used in your tables)
@@OnlineTrainingforEveryone It did not work for. I cannot have the need for a manual refresh because the file is used by others and there is no way to communicate to them that they need to refresh. Old pal "VLOOKUP" solved it for me. Thank you for your reply.
I'm really glad VLOOKUP worked and helped you solved it. Thank you again for watching 24x7Fighter and leaving a comment as well . Is there any option to be enable before this? I mean this doesn't work to me, I do exactly what is shown in 5:29, even the blue lyrics appear before press enter, but It turns out in a VALUE error.
Can you please check what version of Excel you have installed on the PC you're doing this on? We might have different versions and that'd be the reason. Please try updating to the newest version - hope it'd help to solve the issue. Thanks for checking and please let me know if it helped.
Yes sir, 365 version - I always use the latest version as I want to teach about the newest features too as those are very useful most of the time. I'm in awe on how much Excel has changed from it's initial version. Thank you again for watching Alankc and leaving a comment as well . Hi, I am on office 0365 enterprise version - Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (16.0.14228.20292) 32-bit. I am working on a table and would like to use structured referencing to dynamically retrieve the current selected row. I have gone through video tutorial seen the syntax of TableName[[#This Row], [columnname]]. Unfortunately when I attempt on my end either with @ or "#This Row" to retrieve a currently selected row, I get the error VALUE. Any ideas?
My scenario is where in the same table one has a field with a drop down list that gets filtered based on the value captured in another cell in the same row of the table. Is that feasible?
