Ah interesting, I haven't really used it with other languages. I think those models were primarily trained on english text, so they will perform better there, but it's an interesting experiment to see the quality of the outputs in other languages! I will try the other languages I know, french and russian

@@TheLastCodebender I don’t know what language(s) these models are trained, but I can definitely tell that for someone who is not proficient in English, results are much better when using whatever language you are more comfortable with. This, unlike google searches, requires a proficient use of language to ask questions and provide prompts that would drive the model to the best possible response. Therefore if English is not your first language, it’s just better to use your first language. The corollary, I believe, is that current people pressure to learn or be proficient in English will decrease as it will not longer be /that/ necessary or useful

Sorry forgot to reply to this! I did try it in french, and it works surprisingly well, you are right! This is real cool! I dont know how much it will decrease the need for english, because we already had different translating apps for a while now, but I can see what you say with searches for example, one of the reasons to learn english is that a lot of the documentation/literature/texts is in english so if you don't know it, you will loose on a lot of knowledge. Now with ChatGPT, if it can give you answers to your questions and translate things on the fly, that will change a lot for a lot of people

@@TheLastCodebender Yes exactly, that's my point. With current search engines such as google the results basically reflect documents or web sites written in the language you are performing the search (which is useful by the way to search for local content in a specific language speaking country such as France). However with chatGPT this barrier/limitation seems to have been removed. You can ask on any language and the results are virtually the same. Learning a second language (such as English) is very time consuming and highly frustrating, not to say extremely boring, so only a few percentage of population has the energy and motivation to do so. So I am 100% sure that this technology will eventually remove or at least reduce dramatically the need to learn English as a second language for MOST people
