I'm just getting into jumping. This looks like a good exercise to try out! Thank!

We set up an exercise first with just poles on the ground, then later jumps. But start with the poles 7 strides (or whatever number really) apart. Get your horse to go through in the normal 7, then try collecting him to get 8 strides, or lengenthing him to get 6. Eventually you can see how few/many you can put in that distance. A really good exercise for running horses. Works with any distance between the poles.

They are the same measurements. I use between 9ft and 11ft. It varies on the stride length. If your horse has an extremely short stride, 8 or 9. Longer stride, 10 or 11. Cantering in will also make it longer, so where trotting in might be 9, cantering in I'd make it 10.

They are not really canter strides they are bounces, they would be about 2 steps long when counting out the stride. And the same for the jumps to the poles. Is that what you want, or did you want the stride between both the jumps? That is 6 strides, all on a bounce :)

hi i dont suppose you could give me an activity to get a horse shortening/ collecting into his fences instead of running:)

I always do this excersice where you practice with low fences, about 2 foot (depending on your horse, really) and practice sitting REALLY deep. snd only practice at a trot. If your horse is running into fences you need to sit deep and pull back a bit, and if they dont listen, seesaw your hands a tiny little bit.
