In this video I have explained the usage of some inorganic prefixes and suffixes like -IDE,-ITE,-ATE,HYPO,PER. This video is helpful for all Chemistry students. In this video so many examples are discussed which is useful to learn the nomenclature of different poly atomic ions especially oxyanions.

thanks mam for the clear explanation but what about per oxides and per manganates. How is per prefix is used here? Please answer my question and would be of great help
@CHEMTIMEWITHMANASA
@CHEMTIMEWITHMANASA 4 года назад
Per means higher oxidation state. MnO42- has Mn at +VI, while MnO4- has Mn at +VII. O2- has O at -II, while O22- has O at -I. But, You can also understand like this, Per- can mean a number of different things, depending on the context. It can mean that there is a peroxi bond(oxygen-oxygen bond). More generally it tends to mean that the compound is the most completely altered product of a certain(possibly hypothetical) reaction. For example perchlorates and permanganates are the most completely oxygenated compounds of chlorine and manganese, respectively.
