You are the BEST most creative and artistic furniture re-creator and instructor out there. This piece is beyond beautiful ❣️ I feel more confident about tackling my (9 piece ) dining room furniture now. Thank you.
Thank you for such a wonderful compliment I really appreciate that and I truly wish you well with every single piece that you’ve got ahead of you I know that you can do it just jump in feet first and have fun 😊❤️🙏
You’re work is fantastic and you bring calm with your nice voice. Thank you! Can this iod inlay technique be used, pressed into, linear carved wood surfaces?
You’ve done a phenomenal job!! Gorgeous base color choices. I had the pleasure of meeting the IOD sisters in California. They are as humble and kind as they are talented.
Thank you so much yes I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with them now on a couple of occasions and they truly are as they come across on camera and I hope to be doing some more work with the girls in future because I just love their products and them too ❤️❤️
I love watching and learning from you. Your paint techniques and even your tip about using the cardboard edge and stencil brush splatter are simple but genius! Thank you…this turned out BEAUTIFUL! 😊
Absolutely stunning! I love these paint inlays and have enjoyed working with them myself! I have to say that this piece you did in this video is probably the most beautiful one I have ever seen with any of the paint inlays. Absolutely gorgeous.❤
Jonathan, what a gorgeous job you did on this piece - I absolutely love it. The colors and inlay are just stunning - beautiful Italianate vibe! Not only are you a talented artist, you are also an excellent teacher! 😊❤👏
This piece gave me chills. It is absolutely beautiful! I am looking forward to doing this on a Bombay cabinet as I follow this video. Thank you so much for making your tutorials easy to follow. ❤
What an exquisite piece of furniture!! The inlay is so beautiful! Thank you for the tips and tricks for this. I use the rose chintz on an old cabinet door that already had several layers of chipped paint on it, I added more mixed with salt wash and some just straight paint. I used white chalk paint watered down over the door then cut out the roses, when it was time to release the inlay the roses came out quite distressed which fit perfectly on the chipped worn finish on the door. That was my sample board... trying this finish on an Eastlake dresser/mirror, so far looks beautiful not quite finished. I didn't know how I was going to add the topcoat so thank you for the tip of watered down lacquer!!
Oh wow sounds absolutely wonderful please send me some pictures over my other platform so I can see your end product I’m sure it’s gonna be absolutely amazing ❤️😊🙏
I love this tutorial! The longer length is great for those of us that need help with doing things like this. The piece is beautiful! Thanks for sharing your process.
Hi Jonathan. Love watching your videos and am learning so much from you. Question, what kind of paddle pan brush is that and where can one find one to buy? Thanks kindly :)
I don’t know what to say. This is my absolute favorite, so far. It’s stunning. I have zero inherent talent. I’m a copycat. What you’ve done, and are doing, is giving hope that I might perhaps create a beautiful hand painted piece despite the fact I can’t paint. What a brilliant product. Thank you for such great tutorials. They’re greatly appreciated.
Hi Jonathon, I just watched this video which was fabulous! I love how you think outside the box and created your own design. This inlay is my favorite. Thank you for all the fabulous tips you have given us. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
OMG!!! What can one say? The sideboard was a beautiful shape to start with, and then you turned into something MAGNIFICENT!! Blue and green must definitely be seen. FANTASTIC tutorial and no doubt will watch it many more times in the future. ❤❤ 👏👏👏
You have created a beautiful piece. I've been creating sample boards this week for a different inlay using a similar method. This really helped me to realize I was not leaving the inlay on long enough. Thank you!
Yes I think that is something you need to leave the light for quite awhile a little bit less with Lacquer I think I think the inlays are definitely a learning curve but nevertheless they are amazing
OMG! This is amazing. I've been binge watching furniture flips and remakes for almost two weeks. Where were you? Great lesson for me in this one also, not everything has to be perfect. Your creativity as you work is part of what made this lovely and unique. Thanks so much. I love this and will now deprive myself of sleep (unfortunately, not food or wine) until I watch all of yours.
Good morning Jonathon. I am doing a similar piece with this inlay. I have painted, crackled the piece and added the inlay. The background is an ivory color with pale green showing through the cracks. I want to tone down with a glaze, is this possible and if I do, do I seal the piece and then add the glaze? And if so, what glaze would you suggest?. Thank you, Christine
It's a shame you have no understanding of architectural styles or the history of furniture development and the use of ornament. What you've done couldn't be more at odds with the piece of furniture you've chosen to ruin. Furniture in the style of the late 18th Century Neo Classical is never painted in this manner and for good reason. Look at some of the work of Angelica Kauffmann to see examples of appropriate furniture painting and decoration.
Yes it’s so very clever I would’ve given that ago but I really loved the outcome with the cracks I think it gives it that time worn look but maybe next time around I will try and achieve more cleaning finish I think the possibilities are endless with this product 😊😊😊
Thank you for the wonderful compliment it really means the world to me I had so much fun creating this tutorial and I think maybe that came across wishing you all the very best happy painting 😊❤️🙏
Wow, what a huge transformation. Love the finished piece. Your creativity and imagination are through the roof, Johnathon. Your sessions like this one are so much fun. I can't travel to a class but I can learn exactly how to do these amazing projects from my bed, chair or wheelchair. It truly feels like we're all friends or locals❤
Oh Wow! Wow ! I Just ❤❤ What you’ve done to this piece . To Create your own pattern is Absolutely Gorgeous 👏👏 Loved that tip about the cardboard 👍 Just ❤❤ Watching everything you do ❤ ya Jonathon Can’t Wait for your next project 😊
WOW!!! Jonathan it’s AMAZING. I’m so glad I got to see this video. I have been waiting impatiently & it was not a disappointment. I have learnt more watching you here than any other RU-vidrs. I own this particular inlay and will start working with it now that I’ve seen your work. AWESOME 👏🏼 👍😘🤗🥰🙋♀️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Wow wow wow thank you from the bottom of my heart it truly does make my heart seeing hearing that this video will help you along your way especially with confidence in working with something that is very new and I want to wish you all of the success it’s a wonderful product and I thoroughly enjoyed using it and I will do a few more tutorials I feel like I’m addicted now 😂❤️😊
Such a Beautiful piece! I am new to IOD. This is the first tutorial I could really pay attention to for some reason. Maybe because you are a GREAT teacher? Honestly, I learned so much from you. I wasn’t even interested in trying them before from what I had seen. But now, I think I really do want to try it! Thanks for taking such time to explain things so well, and WHY you do it. You made it seem very approachable. I also loved the green wash. Something I would have never tried to do. I almost bought that Furl (is that right) color once, but didn’t. I sure wish I had now. It’s so interestingly beautiful with the Blue. Your attention to every detail is just top notch. The cardboard touches for distressing and flicking the paint with a brush just add so much. I would never have thought of that. So much knowledge in this video. Some lucky person is going to get such a Beautiful and unique piece in their home. Thanks again Jonathon!!
Oh thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely comment. I’m so pleased you enjoyed the video and it’s encouraged you to go and try something new. I can honestly say this is one of my favourite products throughout all of the painting products out there Give it a go, you’ll have so much fun wishing you all a very best for your project 😊❤️🙏
I've purchased a few of these inlays with this one being my favourite, I'm going to put this in the middle of my kitchen wall, which has a very pale pink background. This design reminds me of Scotland, probably because of the deers we had coming into our garden. Now living back in England In a city I miss the wild countryside. Lovely piece beautifully done.
Th a t smokey technique is beautiful and looks fun to do. I didn't catch why you base coat with country grey. Is that for distressing maybe or does it make top blue coats a little different? Okay now I'm going to watch you get your "scary bit" on. Love ❤️ ❤️ watching and learning from you and trying it on my own.
Hey thank you so much yes the country grey base coat was for distressing purposes just say that he would have a little flex of a pale colour underneath how do I just wanted a wooden distressed finish I would’ve gone in with a couple of coats of the blue colour but I think it’s always quite nice to have something different underneath 😊😊😊😊
I am somewhat of a perfectionist, However, the more I watch the different use of different products, the less I am "sweating the small stuff." I do like and getting use to the imperfections of the outcome. I am still watching, but compelled to coment. I will keep watching....
I bought the Chateau inlay set for a project recently, so was tickled to watch your demonstration using the same materials. I'm an antique wood & furniture restoration hobbyist, and I can't help but envision someone coming up on a painted sideboard at a thriftshop and taking it home to refinish it down to bare wood and condition the piece so the wood is back to it's natural state!
Excellent! What a wonderful product, but it still looks a bit scary even after all your very careful instructions. Thank you so much for a fascinating vlog.
It’s all my pleasure thank you for watching and yes I was a little bit daunted at first with this product but once you get going it becomes much easier ❤️
just what I've been looking for. I have old twin beds that I am painting. They have a lot of relief work but a blank head and foot board. I've been practicing painting as I thought I'd have to paint flowers but these IOD are just what I need. Question: at what point would you add some gold leaf/paint to the edges that need to be highlighted?
That sounds absolutely wonderful and I think that’s also a great question I probably would apply my gold at the end which ever way you choose to use gold leaf or even paint
Loved the tutorial but im sorry, I was disappointed with the choice of coloured chalk paint. Perhaps a shabby chic off white or pearl through it, with distressed look might have been better with less decals. Each to their own I guess.
Thank you very much I suppose I like to push the boundaries when it comes to colours and sure it would look wonderful in pale colours I will be saving my offcuts from the inlays for a light project pretty soon so keep your eye out for it ❤️🙏
PS~ Remarkable artistic work and the finish result was specactcular new tricks to :distress: besides sanding away The side board looks like an old finds at a French Flea Market
Hi Lyudmila thank you very much and welcome to my channel it’s really good to have you here and I really appreciate the lovely comment happy creating 😊❤️🙏
Oh thank you very much. Yes I do get one or two people a little upset about seeing the wood go but I assure you this piece of furniture is not as old as it perhaps looks just very good veneer over chipboard we do get quite a lot of this furniture in the UK, I’m pleased you liked the end, result in a positive way 😊❤️🙏
Absolutely lovely. I soooo want to try this but to scared to do it!!!!! I’m a newbie at this. Have lots of pieces from family and would be perfect for them
You are a creative genius. I have watched multiple channels on furniture restoration/recycling and you are by far the most creative! The way you teach is also unique from other platforms. Its like we get to be inside your mind while you experiment with something wild, off the wall or just plain new and let me tell you it is so much fun going on the ride with you!! Thank you for always just jumping in with both feet fearlessly, (well, maybe with a little fear lol) anyway, it makes it just a tad bit easier on us when we attempt it. 🙃
Gosh thank you so much this message means the world to me I am such a visual learner myself so I really like to explain and showcase the best for learning I think it probably reflects in how I teach once again truly grateful for your lovely comment xx
@@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove You are very welcome, it truly is delightfully inspiring watching your videos. Is there a video you have done about the misters you use. (That sounded really wrong lol 😆) They spray so lightly and evenly. I believe I even saw you spray on some type of finish coat in one of your lovely lessons. Did you use the same sprayer for that and is that sprayer ruined after that or does it clean up good? Could a person use those sprayers like a little air sprayer with the paint? Maybe for a interesting way to use stencils on furniture? Oh so many questions, sorry, maybe you have already done an episode about this. And where do we find these lovely sprayers? Would just love to know more about these different misters you use. Why do you use the one that looks like a plant mister vrs. the one like a hair spray bottle? Does one put out more water than the other or does one spray a more even mist? I have searched in several of your links but can't seem to find them. Thank you, sorry about the tons of questions, feel like you need a whole episode just to answer me. 🤣🤣🤣
The painting lies do you work over a wooden surface with lacquer I haven’t tried it but I’ve seen others do it I will bring that to a tutorial at some point 😊❤️
Most of the pieces that I love end up in the house with us and then I have to filter out something occasionally some of them I do sell locally this one is definitely a keeper
❤ I recently discovered your channel because I bought a new house a couple months ago. I like it very much except for the kitchen island. It is like a deep dark brown almost black color maybe it’s graphite. I prefer to lighten it using that graphite as the base coat. I like your work very much. What can you rerecommend?
This piece is absolutely incredibly gorgeous. I love watching you work and the way you describe your thought process is so helpful. Loved the comment about sitting out with a cup of tea while trimming the inlay sheets contributed to feeling your creativity. I work with a lot of IOD products and get what I think is a similar sense. Weather it's clay or stamps or whatever....the way the products are used while creating the end piece adds to my sense of satisfaction as a maker, creator, artist.
I can’t believe how beautiful this came out!! It looks like years worth of unintentional wear! Very cool, unique and creative! I’m a new subscriber and enjoy your vids! Ohio-USA.
Oh thank you very much very kind of you to say and I want to wish you a very warm welcome to my channel. Thank you for hitting the subscribe button I really appreciate it. I hope you enjoy future tutorials ❤️🙏😊
Absolutely amazing, who could have guessed an application like this would even be possible! Please keep doing...tutorials are so much better than TV! You're the bomb as my old boss used to say (;
Gorgeous! & i love the cat at the end too! This is the first of your videos i have watched and even though it was long i really appreciated all the time you took to really show how to do it all & get that beautiful outcome! You are very talented!
Thank you so much and welcome to my channel I really appreciate your lovely comment and most of my tutorials are very long this is the longest to date but I’ve started putting timestamps into the tutorials so you can come back at any point and watch the most relevant part for you 😊😊😊 wishing you all the best for your future projects
Yes I couldn’t agree more perfect piece of design by the IOD girls I love it and of course I never use the central bouquet on this project so I’m looking forward to reconfiguring on another one maybe something with paler colours thank you so much for watching catch you soon 😊❤️🙏
You've mentioned a few times that your tutorials are long, and it's true that videos can feel long regardless the duration, if they're not captivating, like yours. You have such a charisma!
This is a fabulous piece. I was anxiously awaiting your take on the chateau paint inlay. Beautiful creation. Love the blue, and green distressed paint and placement of the inlay. You really are a talented artist.
I suppose with this particular pattern, I think the wrinkles add to the overall look, but I have to say I’ve got pretty comfortable with applying them and usually they turn out pretty good. I think we all spend so much time looking for perfection but what I’ve learnt is the happy accidents Over the whole piece tend to be the magic moments if that makes sense 😊
what are you using to add the inlays? is it some sort of water based topcoat? forgive me if i missed it somewhere.. ive used paint to embed the inlays but not a clear coat or whatever product you are using for yours
@@JonathonMarcMendesPaintedLove thank you, its great to know that when you have a complicated finish being able to use a clear coat to apply the inlays is an option.. :)
Stunningly beautiful I love, love, love. ❤ I've bought Chateau, haven't opened yet a bit neeverous to start. The colours seem brighter in this than in the pack. Iblike the option of other colours too. Thank you it was worth watching.
Jonathon, your work is absolutely beautiful and inspiring!!! I love all of your videos. This piece, by far, is one of your very best! I just love it. Your recreation of this piece is beyond words, sir! 😊❤
I know the IOD girls are grinning from ear to ear, because you have created a masterpiece with their products. I have used inlays for awhile now and I learned a lot watching this video. You are a master artist and I love your videos. Please don’t become a weatherman I’d miss you. Love Cindy
