Today we will show you how we use local storage on Blink video doorbell sync module 2. You can use a USB local storage if you you do not want to pay for the Blink subscription. We bought a micro 256 usb flash drive to use with our blink video doorbell sync module 2. If you have any questions, leave comments below and we would love to answer them. Thank you for this video, I didnt realise I could see local storage clips in the app because mine never appeared after the free trial ended but it was because the usb hadn't registered, I removed it and put it back in while the app was open and its all working now 👍

Did Blink actually switch to local storage? After my free trial subscription ended my cameras are nothing more than PIRs - I get notifications that the cameras detected motion but there are no images, no clips, and nothing is stored locally. And sorry to be truthful about Blink's customer service, but they did not resolve the issue. It would be encouraging to hear from a Blink owner that local storage actually works.

You probably got an answer already, but no, blink did not switch to local storage, you can have either cloud or local storage. If you want cloud storage, you need to pay the monthly or yearly subscription, or if you don't want to pay for a subscription, you can get the sync module for local storage

I am sorry I missed this comment! local storage does work! you just need a module and a usb/memory card. Blink gives you a free trial whenever you set up a new camera and then after that trial to the subscription is over the clips go to your local storage. It has been great for us! We have not paid for the subscription in the 2 years we have been using it.

@@boostedbadboyzx12r31 I believe the sink module 2 can hold 1 GB to 256 GB. We have 256 GB for over a year and have not had to delete anything at all!

Question. Im out of subscription.. it recongises my.local drive but doesnt show any clips... why is that?

Yeah mine to. Trying to figure it out. I get notifications of movement but nothing is recording to my flash drive.

It happened to me today. After they gave me another 7-day trial, I used it, but now I can't see any clips in my local storage, even though it says local storage connected.

Mine too. It says the card is not compatible despite it being an actual blink storage card. I am going to try formatting it.

Go to clips. It’s a tab that says cloud. Click that and change to local storage. No video has helped so I found out the hard way but this works

We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ru-vid.comUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

reset the sync model and leave only the flash dirver and you can see the videos, it will cancel the cloud option

When I click on my sync module it does not show any “local storage” even though I connected a flash drive to the module. All the choices are “help troubleshooting” and “change wifi network”

Is it a new camera? They usually give you a free trial for the cloud and the videos will automatically go there first. If that is not the case, I would try to safely remove the usb and plug it back in while your app is up on your phone and see if that helps. If it is a new USB you may need to make sure it works in another device first, like check it on your computer.

Ok so the issue is I have the old sync module which doesn’t support local storage. You need the sync module 2 for it to work! Got a new sync module 2 and now it works, even though the old module has a usb drive.

Are you signed up for the Blink Cloud service? If you are, your videos will automatically go there first. You have to select the local storage option. Is the local storage option showing up on your app? The Sync module may not be detecting/recognizing your USB. Make sure your USB works in another device and I would try it over again.

I have a 64gb usb plugged in to module. I have clips to review but when I go to clips it shows cloud only not and my usb? The usb shows from 6-16 to 6-24 backup clips so I know it was working but did not record any backup files past 6-24??? My subscription ended yesterday.

You can still view the clips on the blink app, click clips, and then at the bottom you can click local storage.

This works great for me with the doorbell. However, I tried to add on a camera and it won’t connect to the sync module. I think it has to be cloud based again?

Is it giving you a specific error message on why it won't sync? When we added a new camera, Blink gave us another 30 days free on the cloud and then we used the local storage again by selecting it manually. Let us know!

what will happend if the usb is full? Will Blink overwrite the previous one?

We have not experienced this yet but online it says "If you do not have enough free space on your USB flash drive, backups cannot continue. Clip recording resumes when there is enough free space. Delete clips to make space or insert a new USB storage drive with more space into the Sync Module."

Had a spare wire camera for the hall it's next to WiFi. It was picking up the sensor it's not now..I don't have a subscription as I believe ther will be a price hike of it . But now ran into issues with. Mains camera is working on my door

No, you can use any brand usb drive but it can only go up to 256 GB. Max storage is 256 GB

According to blinks info you have to have a blink account to store local.

Yes, you need an account but you don't have to pay for the monthly subscription for cloud. Using local storage is free and you don't have to pay anything to use it.

is your usb drive working? Try to take it out and plugging it into another device to check it. Also, have you added a new camera recently? When adding a new camera it can activate a free 30 day trial of the blink cloud storage.

Mine's not doing that. I have a subscription. I have format the usb before use and nothing. No clips. I'm trying to get what's in the stupid cloud on to the usb so I can store it on my computer rather than the cloud and nothing is showing. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

If you have a subscription then you don't need local storage. You have to turn off the subscription to have the video go to local storage. The videos will automatically go t0 the cloud first. If that is not the case, I would try to safely remove the usb and plug it back in while your app is up on your phone and see if that helps. Reset the module with the usb plugged in. If it is a new USB you may need to make sure it works in another device first, like check it on your computer.

In my experience a terribly unreliable camera system...has always been spotty on functionality for me. Not showing local storage at the moment...definetly not the first time this has happened. Trying to get it to work (again). I have owned the system for a few years and I really just cant trust it to work. Would not buy the system a second time.

Is your doorbell or camera new? They automatically give you free 30 days on the plan but once you cancel the plan it DOES save to the USB. We are not paying a dime and all of our clips are saving to our USB.

have you checked that your USB works and has enough memory? The Sync module may not be detecting/recognizing your USB. Make sure your USB works in another device and I would try it over again.
