Thanks! You went above and beyond. I'm new to BRAW and was just looking for how to turn on the LUTs for my new cameras. You also made it easy to add and organize my own and more importantly, that section on the nodes literally made me finally understand what the heck a Node, is and how the order plays a role.

Finally! I've been stand offish with using LUTs in my workflow even though I have the equipment and means to incorporate it but I have been pushing myself to try new things in my workflow in order to grow as a cinematographer. Thank you for this video. Davinci is my software of choice and I needed to know how easy it can be to use LUTs to color correct accurately/ effectively. You're the man!

I think the Film LUTS should be applied after a clip has been converted to rec709 with the associated camera colorspaces AND then converted to Cineon Log. After it is properly converted to CIneon Log the film LUTS can properly be applied. You will still need a CC node before before the nodes, but Cineon Logspace is the standard because film LUTS are created specifically for Cineon Log files. Just my two cents. :) I was composite on a couple Spider-man movies and that's how we rolled. :) Your method will work and will get good results, but each film stock LUT will be altered in the process.

Very informative, thank you. A few questions... So this means if I have 50 clips in my video, I need to apply a LUT to each clip, towards the last nodes once I have made all my changes? What about Cineon Film CST node before applying a LUT as some youtubers are referring to?

I have a moderate background in photography and am just getting into color grading of my drone footage. In order to get an accurate "Golden Hour" color LUT, can I take a large grey card and expose it in natural "Golden Hour " light and then create a lut from it? Thanks

Because its not really like that way,check some other video where they show you how you have to manage the color space,not all the luts will work just if you apply them cause it matter how you shot your video with what camera en etc

OK this is maybe a stupid question, but is the LUT basically a Still, like when you grab a Still from an image?
@JorisHermans
@JorisHermans Год назад
a LUT is a preset that you can use to color grade your footage.
@flutefluteus8288
@flutefluteus8288 Год назад
@@JorisHermans Yes I know, but I have noticed that I can grab a still from the DaVinci inside the color page, and export/import it, which basically does the same thing, if I am not wrong?

I’m just starting out in editing, I hear that there is a different between color correcting and color grading (adding luts or making your own), it is proper to color correct and then grade/add luts? That seems like what you did to get the high light information back. Thanks, would appreciate some help!
@JorisHermans
@JorisHermans 2 года назад
Yes, first color correct. Make your image look natural. Temperature, tint, contrast, ... And then color grade which pretty much means "get creative".

Do i still need CST to rec 709 if im using LUT? if yes, it’s before the CST node or after? Thanks
@JorisHermans
@JorisHermans Год назад
Depends on the LUT. Some LUTs only adjust colors and others also adjust contrast and saturation. For the latter you don't need the rec.709 transform.

Hello! The corrector node is the serial node? Is the same? Thx!!
@JorisHermans
@JorisHermans 2 года назад
"Serial" means that they're linked one behind another. So a "serial" node is a corrector node that goes behind or in front of another one. A "layer" node for example, is a corrector node that links parallel to another one. So, "on top" of another node.
