Kathleen, I absolutely ADORE the way you don't give a darn tootin' about "fashion rules," like the hatred toward "frumpy" outfits and not calling attention to (awesome!!) hips/undesirable parts of the body. The way you make me rethink the combinations in my closet to find something completely new and different! like I'm abt to cry omg, your vibes are incredible :]
I have to wear scrubs 5 days a week. So on the weekends I have no idea what to wear. Outfit recipes will definitely give me a good starting point. Thanks for the help. 😁
Ended up creating my own outfit recipes from some pin searchin that really narrow in on femme + masc. I encourage my gender expansive pals to try these out! Oversize graphic tee + maxi skirt + chunky boot: with a men’s graphic tee you can get that more masc silhouette and you can even throw on a men’s blazer Dress over button down + tie: rock the formal men’s wear under a dress and you are living large Oversized frill collar + long sleeve top + men’s pants: a huge frill collar can be layered over a sweater to get a really boxy look with a touch of feminine. I think more businessy men’s pleated pants look good with this. You can play with ties and bows too! Jumpsuit/coveralls + blouse: you’re a working man in a working world but you like to be a lil dainty. Consider also mesh instead of blouse. Femme shirt + masc pants: literally just pair a blouse with some business men’s pants. Add a belt with big hardware to masc it up. Thanks Kathleen for the inspiration! Since I’m afab the advice for me to dress androgynous is usually “just wear men’s clothes” but ya boi wants to wear dresses still. I hope the trans stinkies in the comments see this and try some new outfits too!
i NEED that pattern clashing video! i feel so scared to mix patterns but i really want to try it because it looks so cool in other people! and i love all of your tips so kathleen there's no one i would trust more to teach me about that than you ❤
More outfit recipes, please! These videos are so good for me, rn. I've been struggling to put together outfits that feel like "me" and these are so helpful as I explore!
The last two outfits with the different patterns looked so good! The masc/femm outfit looked the hardest. I always just add a tie or bow tie for masc looks so I would want you to try that sometime! ❤
I'm only 9 minutes in, but I loved seeing you step outside your comfort zone with the low waisted bottom and long top. And you killed it!! You look so good and slinky like a cat :D
I kinda thought that I had outfit recipes. But I think I broke them all. I used to pretty much only wear high waisted skirt/ pants + tucked in top/ t-shirt + cardigan. These days I just combine my pieces until I like the outfit. I also like to try putting colours together that usually don't go together. Blue and Green. Pink and Red. Trying things that are out of your comfort zone like the low waisted bottoms were for kathleen is also great to mix it up. I recently added mock necks and smocked tops to my wardrobe. And I love it. Never thought I would say that : )
I love watching your videos when I am doing my laundry, organizing my closet. Feels like im hanging out with a friend! Love your playful vibe and the encouragement for non-judgmental stance towards self. Thank you for inspiring💖
your videos always give me the courage to embrace my inner whimsical self and for that I thank you, my closet is full of color and fun clothes now 💙💚💜🧡
I love the idea of a video on how baggy doesn't equal to big/frumpy. I want to be able to wear fun things and not worry about how it flatters or doesn't flatter my figure.
One of my favourites is long sleeved turtleneck top with any short sleeved/strappy dress over the top. My best one is a tight fit black and white striped ribbed turtleneck with a black velvet midi dress with capped sleeves, v-neck and glittery stars. Or a mesh black turtleneck with a black satin square neck mini dress with short puff sleeves. I wear a lot of black
crop top or tiny top, a line skirt or skort cargo skirt, sun hat i.e. cap or bucket hat, sneakers and hoop earrings :) my go to, for sure. (yes, i have become sporty spice the last 3 years) i am obsessed with Bloke and Bloquette style fashions lately
very strict work dress code, so desperately seeking new ways to style the clothes i have in a way that i can still wear them to work and enjoy them. you've been a huge help the last couple weeks thank you!
Woohoo, another great vid! Love that we're cooking with outfit recipes lol. I tend to go for small top (or tshirt) with big pants... it's just SO DANG HOT you need the air flow! now to go meditate on "baggy" and "frumpy" and their origins
Your green linen co-ord set is absolutely gorgeous! And I love how you styled the pattern clashing outfits. I'm inspired to try my own pattern clashing outfits now, seems like having similar weight/drape are beginner-friendly steps. I also wanted to state my appreciation that you try different outfit combinations in your videos, some work but some need more work to work! I feel safe to try out my own combinations and that it is normal if I can't get something I like in the first try ♥️ I have been enjoying the fitted top + loose pants/skirts combination lately. I add a textured jacket and paatterned scarf on top. Obsessed with all the layers and textures 😊
The majority of my clothes are black or black and white. But I love throwing in all the patterns at once: polka dots, checkerboard, stripes, florals, etc., all in one outfit. 😊
maybe an unpopular opinion since i think you ranked it lowest but the second theme was my fav🔥 those skirt combos w that long top are doing you right 🥰
for some reason I want to cut up my bright blue sweatshirt that's a lil snug in the waist and make it into a zipped crop-top. I feel like it would be great for tiny shirt+big pants.
IDK if you watch Abby Cox at all but she's a dress historian and has just done a video about the Victorian era's obsession with ugliness vs beauty, particularly regarding women and girls, and it goes a LONG WAY towards explaining *why* our society is so obsessed with being hypervigilant about how our bodies are perceived, as I've heard Kathleen say before. It's a cultural hangover/generational trauma, y'all! I just wanted to comment about this bc I love how this generation of youtubers are consciously and deliberately deconstructing this inherited belief and are actively cultivating an alternative method of adorning our bodies and expressing ourselves through clothes 💟
What's the chance we could get a video, with some colorful apocalypse fits? 🤡🌈🔥 I'm tierd of baige, black, brown, and army green. 🥱 P.S, You're videos make my day, and inspire me, Thank you! ❤🥸
Kathleen! My sister (now 34) grew up with a TOMMY HILFIGER bear as her favorite stuffed animal. I was shocked when you accidentally referenced him! Obviously his name is Tommy. She still sleeps with him every night.
Im a new subscriber and love your videos. The camera focus is kind of hurting my eyes, like it's blurry for a second then refocuses, then blurry again and refocuses, but all throughout the close ups with the blue on.
I’ve been so overwhelmed. I feel like nothing looks right on my body. I have a long torso and short legs and I’m very thin. I never feel comfortable in anything
I'm also just gonna drop a question in here in case it doesn't come up in your 'frumpy' (quote unquote!!) rant... when's the last time you heard a man's outfit being called frumpy?!
I love you so much. I have felt so much more comfortable and cute just putting items together from my own closet that I didn’t think to put together. I feel like I’ve refreshed my style without having to buy anything and it’s amazing
Love a frumpy moment. My go to winter outfit recipie is big vintage sweater (what some may call an "ugly sweater")+ little skirt+ tights + boots. It has been too hot to function this summer so a go to outfit has been sundress + hat + sneakers. Loved the inclusion of the pink skirt in the masc + fem outfit and how it was styled there.
an outfit recipe i've been wearing a lot this summer is very big pants + tiny top + flowy overlayer which in my wardrobe mostly looks like oversized linen joggers/harem pants + a cropped tank top + big button up or a scarf as a cloak
@@airportcat oh!! ive wanted to try those but im in the US so theyre expensive to ship and try on and mail back, so your recommendation (and tip about sizing) is very appreciated. thanks! :)
alright so... 1. i vote for you to publish "kathleen's little dictionary of fashion" because your fashion vocab and adjectives are SOMETHING 🤓 2. 3:52 that green set was MADE for YOU. you 🎸 that color 3. still laughing at the tomato and edame summer line. 4. in actuality each quotation is just a video topic were all waiting for... 5. girrlllll rock those hiPs I've spent all my life wanting a pair 😗 6. 7:52 the shirt 😩 7. okay can I just go shop your closet. it's a sin to have so many cute items belong to only one human 😑 8. 12:45 now there is my FAVORITE FIT OF ALL 9. can i enroll in a Kathleen creative 'dialoging' workshop? 10. how did 17min pass sOOO quickly???? 🌞 thank you so much for working with me! you deserve all the subbies that there are, you're a dancing sun ray 🌞
I looooovvve this! I really liked watching you build, deconstruct, rebuild, switch and talk through the process ... it feel real & genuine and SAFE to hear you say, ' I don't know if I like this' or ' Why am I not wearing this more' ... all very true things that can happen in the creative process! TY for being YOU ❤
"does this have a pocket?" the answer should always be yes :D do you have an article of clothing that you wish had pockets? potential vid idea to sew some pockets places?? :P
i love how you explained WHY pieces work together. i think thats the most important reason to understand the reason you enjoy something. like when i look at outfits i want to understand why i like them so i can pull specific aspects into my own outfits. thank you for describing how your outfits worked together with like actual vocab and reasoning. that helps me so much to understand why an outfit may or may not be working and how to love more fits i put together 💕
I don’t have a “normal” body because I have a big tummy but I’ve had a mastectomy so I am completely flat on top and kinda look like I have the body shape of the grinch! But finding your channel (and subsequently watching ALL of your videos) has been a huge style inspiration for me and I have felt more comfortable than ever by using your ideas and tips and hearing your perspective on different looks! Thank you SO much for making these videos it’s such a huge help
Thanks, Kathleen! Not only for the video but you also just taught me it´s ´quote unquote´, not ´quote on quote´ (which didn´t make any sense to me anyway but apparently I never bothered to look it up)... 🤓
I love the hypermasculine/hyperfeminine combo, which makes a lot of sense to me as a very femme person who is (or feels) a little on the tall side. I've longed to be a tiny teacup since puberty, so I love an oversized men's shirt or blazer with a pretty floral or a little lace.
I couldn't put my finger on why I preferred the patterned fit at 15:49 with the floral skirt to the floral top's version, until I remembered advice from @andreasfashiongalaxy - Your hair color can contribute to your outfit's color palette and overall balance, so if you bring that color down into the bottom half of your outfit (bottoms or purse/belt+shoes for example), it can help the outfit feel a bit more balanced (which isn't always the vibe, all looks are fun and valid). All this to say, the saturation/black in the skirt brings the saturation/black (or very very dark brown, idk what your camera does to it) of your hair down into the rest of the fit which tickled my monkey brain in the nice way, and having it in the top but having the bottom be so much lighter and desaturated still gave "she knows she mixed patterns so she must be cool", but less monkey-brain-tickles. I actually do prefer both looks to the full set of either, for the simple contrast of saturation levels, which is not to say that I don't like the sets, just that this is a very fun spin on them that really lets each piece shine. I'm off to watch Maia's video :D
yes yes Kathleen that is a Posh Bear aesthetic and I like it. i like it a lot. I have a farmer's blouse with stripes so I wanna see what I can do with that the rest of the summer. :) oooh this so good. I am so excited
My coworker called mixing patterns “power clashing,” which always stuck with me. (I think she got the term from the tv show Girls, but I could be mis-remembering.)
Really loved that video. Given the recent undecidedness the weather seems to have concerning what season it is, contrasting seasons can also be fun. Like shorts with a big sweater and nice warm socks and sneakers underneath or a short summer dress with a wooly pullover on top.😗😊
I had so much fun with both these videos. I have sooooo much in my closet and find myself saying...I have nothing to wear, way too often. But now, when I feel that way, I just use a recipe. Sometimes it works like a charm, and sometimes not. But, I can always change my clothes so I am excited to try these new recipes! Can't wait for the clashing patterns video.
Love these outfit recipes! I've only revently found your channel and have binge watched a lot! I work from home so my outfit recipes have been joggers with a pretty top/blouse. Or since the weather here in wales is shocking, joggers with cropped patterned/texture jumpers 😅
