Also, not sure if someone here said it before, but if you copied the password to paste into the terminal window, just click in the terminal window to ensure that it's highlighted, and where the cursor is blinking, simply right-click in that location - and that serves as the 'paste' function (as opposed to the shift+insert thing) 😉
@@TonyTeachesTech where do I get a server to ssh into? I tried the one in the video but it times out. Did you just make that one up or where did you get it?
FYI, right clicking inside the terminal = paste, the same as shift+insert. It's a little easier to remember in my opinion. You can also hold ctrl+right click for an actual context menu.
Hello Tony. Im trying to set up a vps on my laptop and access through ssh using putty. How is that different from setting up a vps on the cloud. I know that on the cloud is a remote server but how is the set up different?
ok.obviously im thick, but what do you do after you have the black command box. how do you get your sites up. ie your usual windows stuff.....surely you dont just minimise the black box and use as normal..
Great video. I had issues where I pulled up the Putty key creator instead of the App. I had to go into my Windows Start Menu and find the correct app and the screen you were on.
Don't you need to set up a ppk file and use putty's keygen? I tried your style, it said, "No supported authentication methods available(server sent:publickey)"
@@MikeJohnCore What text editor are you using to view the log? If you use vim, you can jump to the bottom by typing capital G. You could also use the tail program to look at the last few lines of the file
I know this video is two years old but I need help. I can't find any solid answers on Google. When I try to connect to my VPS I get the error "Network Error: Connection Timed Out" FYI I can connect to the VPS with Windows remote desktop tool... Please help thanks
Hi Dear , i successfully connected with remote server using SSL tunnel in Putty everything is ok Server show connected BUT when i want to check database list in ODBC64 and connect remote server with IP and User and Pass same as give on putty it now show any database in list. But i have 5 database in myPHPadmin on hosting sever. Can you help me how to display database name using ODBC64

I tried this many times it says login I put root hit enter. It asked for password I right clicked in the cursor I get "access denied ". What am I doing wrong????
Hi a very informative video a quick question when I go to log in to putty I put in as root then hit enter to get to the password line but for some reason it will not let me type in the second line 🤔
That's normal! The password field doesn't echo your input back (meaning when you type in the password, you'll see no characters as you type). So just try to enter it and hit enter, it should let you in!

Hi, i type in root then it doesnt let me type anything for password, i type it without the ticker moving and i try copy with shift insert enter and it just keeps saying access denied? using the password in the email under the username which is root.
so root works then when it asks for password it does not let me type or copy. when i use the shift insert enter trick it does nothing for a bit then says access denied. im using racknerd VPS. any help would be great. After a long while it says Putty fatal error remote side unexpectantly closed network connection.
so, uhm my uni used this to teach us, but I keep getting the time out error from putty, which is very annoying since no place on google actually show you how to fix it.
it could be the seconds inbetween keep alives, after lauching putty but without connecting to anything on the left when you go to connection if you make the 0 5-10 it usually helps i think, could be wrong but try it out
It doesn't show me to allow the fingerprint. It didn't show up on 1№ Time. It doesn't let me in with my linux Username, aswell. :-( How can it be done???

When you limit the list of users who can login to just one user, then you only have to protect the password or private key for this single user. It won't be possible for another user to login to your server via ssh. Make sense?
@@TonyTeachesTech I'm still new to all this just spent abt 40 hours on it lol only had abt 4 hour sleep someone kept accessing my vps server without the password so wanted to protect it so only I can get in my host machine Is a window and my server is 2016 so will this video work on it still as the title says ubuntu
You didn't exit the sessions properly they're kind of running "in the background" there's an command for shutting down all the sessions if I recall. Google it and you'll find it. "How to shutdown all putty sessions" or something along those lines
