The official video tutorial for getting started with Quizlet Live hosted by our teacher ambassador.
What is Quizlet Live?
Quizlet Live turns your study sets into a raucous quiz-show style game that students can play individually or in teams.
Teams Mode
In the teams mode, Quizlet randomly assigns students to groups. Each student in a group has the same question on their screen, but a different answer-and only one of them is the correct one. Students must work together and communicate in order to determine which team member has the right answer.
If a student selects their answer, and it’s not the right one, the team’s score is reset to zero, which heightens the tension.
In the classroom, these groups can gather together around a table. In a remote setting, the teacher can share the main leaderboard screen and the groups can meet online in a breakout room.
Individuals Mode
Quizlet can also be played in individuals mode, where each student is on their own team, and they must choose the right answer from four multiple-choice options on their screen.
This option is a natural fit for remote and hybrid classrooms, but you also might want to use it if group work isn’t the best environment for your students, or you just want everyone to do the work themselves.
“Even when I go back into the classroom, I know that I’m going to use individuals mode because it increases engagement individually and doesn’t let someone in a group simply rely on other students to get the work done,” Rory says.
How to play Quizlet Live
First, select your own study set, or someone else’s. Click the “Live” option on the left-hand side of the screen. Note that this option is only available through the Teacher account-either the free or the paid version.
You will have the opportunity to select from teams or individuals mode, and to choose how your study materials are presented in the game. Then a code will pop up. Students can enter the code at quizlet.live on their laptops, tablets or phones. Quizlet also provides a QR code that students can simply scan if they prefer. And if you’re teaching online, you might prefer to just drop the game link into your learning platform.
Each Live game consists of 12 questions randomly chosen from the given study set. After the game is over, you can restart it, and Quizlet will randomly choose 12 more questions. This feature allows you to play using the same study set many times.
“The moment we started introducing Quizlet Live into the classroom, the whole dynamic just completely changed,” Rory says. “My students would walk into the room every day saying, “Are we playing Quizlet Live today?’ And if that is not the best way to show your teacher that you’re so excited to learn and practice and have a great time, I don’t know what is.”
Are you interested in getting students engaged and practicing in the best way possible? Check out Quizlet Live. You won’t regret it.

This is an awesome and informative video! I have been using Quizlet for years to assign my Swiss middle-school students English vocabulary lists, but wasn't sure how to use Live. This coming school year, each of my students will have a device and I'm looking forward to using this in the classroom! Thanks so much! (PS I've used Kahoot, and the kids go nuts when we play games, however I've found making learning lists quite a difficult task! I find Quizlet much easier)
