Question... 🤔 What's your personal "go-to" Reverb Plug-in? Let me know! 👇🏼 🚀 Want to dive deeper into Vocal Recording in Pro Tools? Check out my 1 HOUR Training here 👉🏼 IntroToRecording.com
Hello there. I'm Riels all the way from Namibia, I want to ask how you will go mixing Back up vocals, like a choir consisting of sopranos, altor, tenor, and bass. I like your work and highly appreciated. thank you...
As an artist that engineers all of my music, what is a good set up order for adding anything after all raw vocals are recorded. leveler, Eq then reverb, limiter ? I kinda freestyle every mix this way, but ive had no guidance😅 i do all my back up vocals the same as my lead which causes chaos at times
My number 1 struggle as an upcoming engineer is honestly doing everything on windows/Pc it seems like it harder for me because majority of people I'm learning from has a mac or apple. some things translate but the that dont i get confused and lost.
I was on Windows for the first 5 years. There's not much of a difference outside of a few shortcuts being a different key. Everything else should typically translate 😎
Hey Jordan, Love what you’re doing on the channel. A question I would like to ask that you could make for a topic is: how do you know if your lead vocals are too loud in the mix and what steps would you go by to help figure out that level. And also how you would go about blending BG vocals in a RnB song. Much love and light
HQ! I appreciate the feedback. I’ll absolutely add this to the notes for upcoming trainings 🤙🏼 In the meantime, I like my vocals, kick, and snare at about the same levels within my mixes. I like to set this while playing things back in mono. Hope this helps!
Another good thing to do is make a 2 track and pan one all the way left and the other all the way right, and put both tracks on like 7.5 dbs. I like my vocals to sit at -12 db , so when u listen take off the monitor setting on your daw to see what db ur vocals sit at and adjust them to get that -12 db. I feel that anything from -10.5 to -12 db sits perfect in a mix but its all based on ur preference. I hope i helped u out wit this bro.
Wassup I have a problem with getting thick natural vocals like money bagg yo and it sounds like they are right on the mic like right there but my vocals sound a little shiny am I doing the eq high end to much ?
Gotcha! If the problem is the high end of the vocal, don’t be afraid of EQ’ing some of that out 👍🏼 Try starting with a slight shelf cut. I was always afraid to do that because I thought I may lose some clarity, but trust your ear 👂🏼 The cheat code for me in these scenarios has been FabFilter Pro DS (default setting) and oeksound’s Soothe Plugin.
@@prod.kulturedakid7157 I didn't follow a blueprint necessarily. I just started pursing it relatively young, had a consistent work ethic, and ran off of passion instead of chasing a check. A few years later the money caught up and has allowed me to be a full time engineer for the last six years. Maybe we should do a video about the process? 🤔
Notes taken 📝 Have you checked out my Vocal EQ and Compression videos? Maybe these could be a good start! 📺 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ey_QzbHMgj8.html
What kind of person is a sound engineer can be made from the mix that he uses in the video! And the mix is not even enough! And in your speech accompaniment there is little specificity (((
Hey Jordan I'm using FL studio it just happened I bumped into your tutorials your teaching is good is there any chance that you can do a tutorialin FL.please
I’m glad you found the videos 🤙🏼 A lot of the principles that I’ll teach are universal to all DAW’s. The setup may just look a little different (sends, aux tracks, etc.). I personally don’t use anything other than Pro Tools, but I’m sure you can apply a lot of these concepts in FL too!
You asked for it - I'm using Intro Free version so your templates I downloaded don't work. I would like a template that works for a single vocal and guitar based on the free Protools version. BTW - great, great videos. I'm struggling like crazy with this and would love something simple I can just start and can grow from. I really appreciate the guides you're giving.
As a recording artist & recording my artist friends I struggle to see the finished product as we’re going through it. I’m with sending the rough mix out to an engineer for the complete version, but I’d love to have a great recording process like many of my favorite artists I love. It sounds pass halfway before they even mix.
Are hip hop and Rap the only vocals taught? I get so tired of everybody's tutorials being about that be bold bro and do some other types of music then you will stand out from all others doing the same thing.
my main difficulty is with the compressor and effects like reverb and delay, i know a little about them but i really want to learn how to use them professionally, i intend to be a mixing engineer
@@MyAudioAcademy Sure thing. I just started using PT about two weeks ago. Your videos are helpful. Two questions. 1. Do you have Pro Tools Carbon? If so. Can you do a review and tutorial on it. 2. Do you do one on one training for PT?
@@dspoet1 Question 1. I don't. I personally use an Apogee Symphony mk2. 2. Yes, I just opened that up to the public for a short period. I'll attach a link to that below 🤙🏼 form.jotform.com/222128396443053
Hey, I love your content bro! Can you please do a video on GAIN STAGING especially on vocals before you mix do to allot of plugins I notice only work around a certain db? Also a video on vocal recording levels and what db side on the fader should the mixer be looking at and what's the difference. Some of this stuff can be confusing being a newbie to mixing. Thank you so much for what your doing. Keep going, they'll be calling you to have your own booth at NAMM in no time!🙏
Hey jordan i love your tutorial btw my no. 1 struggle in mixing is vocals. i have a hard time mixing reverb and delay and make this two effect sound good on vocals because its very tricky for me to use this 2 fx on vocals i cant achieve what im suppose to hear.
all your videos are enlightened but im a ableton live 11 user and im trying to figure out how i can apply all what u showing on your channel to ableton
I appreciate the love! You can absolutely use this technique in Ableton 👍🏼 Sends work a little different in Ableton, but maybe this video could help clarify (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EDkZDbCRew0.html) From there, you would just mimic the reverb settings that I've created in DVerb, in your personal reverb of choice.
I've got a few templates available as well as resources to help you implement them into your workflow 👍🏼 mixedbyje.sellfy.store/ + IntroToRecording.com
Ultimately, use as many as you need to get the sound you're going for (do what sounds right) 🔑 My chain frequently starts with some compression (4-6db) to get the vocal more consistent, then after eq'ing, I like use some slight mulitband compression the tame some problem frequencies. Then I might finish with 1-2db on the very end of the chain. Hope this helps!
Hey what’s the red aux track at the top of the template. I’m trying to recreate everything from this template . I just copped your radio ready template. Thought it would have everything in this session.
Hey Deangelo! That’s just a Master Fader to trim the input if needed in rare cases. There’s no plugins on it and it’s rarely used, so we’ve kept it off our templates to prevent any confusion for students. The beat bus is routed to your mix bus 👍
