Out of the box, 64GB+ SD cards won't work with your 3DS or 2DS. This video will show you how to setup your SD card to work with your 3DS or 2DS and it should only take a few minutes.

@@AlexGarcia-wm2jt If you are still having trouble, right click the button and open the tab in an igcognito tab. From there just drag and drop the download (which was automatic) to your desktop.

You saved me I tried formatting with diskpart which took me more than an hour only to see that it didn't work but your solution did c: BTW, if you're having problems downloading the software (a new tab is open and then it closes), right click on the button and select the copy link option and then paste it on a new tab

I have a 64 Gb sandisk ultra micro sdcx and I formatted it through the files on my Chromebook to fat32 but 3ds wouldn’t read it and I clicked button on website but didn’t work I’m trying to mod my new 3ds xl by the way.

If it doesn't let you format beacuse it says your sd card is in use like with mine then find it in windows explorer, right click and select format. From there format it to whatevers available and you should now be able to format it to FAT32 using the application.

I used your gamecube tutorial to homebrew that. I was glad to see this when trying to get my sd card to work for my 2ds! Formatting via windows, the cmd program AND a 3rd party program didn't do the job. But this? It worked flawlessly. Thank you so much!

You are my actual hero. My previous SD card got randomly corrupted (was only 32GB too), which was already a kick in the face, but then when I got another one, this time 64GB, it didn't work even when I tried reformatting it with other programs. Was worried there was actually something wrong with my 3DS, but then I found your video. The program you used actually did the trick! Now I'm just relaxing as my 3DS installs all its software back. Thank you!

My 3ds will now take 2 minutes to boot up instead of 5 seconds Edit: I use the sd card for my nintendo switch too, and i deleted all of the save data for my uninstalled games. now it boots up in 5 seconds

If you're using an SD card with a fast read/write speed then that shouldn't be something that happens

Thats what happens when you have a shit ton of games. If you dont have a lot and it still boots up slow, I’d recommend getting a faster card

Very helpful guide. For some reason when I inserted a new micro SD card (after formatting it to FAT32), my N3DS LL simply wouldn't start which was frustrating. After following this video and copying the old files from the old micro SD card, the N3DS started again. Thanks!

For some reason when I use this, it keeps saying getlasterror()=32 and it says that it can’t access the file because it is being used by another process. Any idea how to fix that? Because I’m using a sd adapter for a micro 128 gb sdxc card.

Ace Anime its more than enough for what I needed. I just wanted to make sure I had enough space for some roms of my fav 3ds and ds games + some gameboy stuff. If you plan on having a huge library and a ton of different emulators then you might as well get a bigger sd just to make sure you can fit it all. Id say even just double (256 gb) will be good. I did find that I was running low on space even with just like ~50 roms that I wanted. Mainly because the 3ds titles are usually a gig or more so it fills up the space pretty quickly.

Tom Svensson Pfffft nooooo a lot of the major titles are usually over 2 GB. I think the Pokemon titles are 4 GB each.

Koolmoose Only Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon are 3,6gb. The other Pokémon games are smaller.

I formatted my Sandisk Ultra 64gb to FAT32 and made sure it was MBR and made sure it wasnt corrupted, but whenever I insert the MicroSD card my entire 3ds freezes. If I start it up with the MicroSD card in it wont show anything but darkness. I tried booting it up with nothing on it, with only boot.firm on it, with all the previous MicroSD card files on it and none of them work. I am using this on a New Nintendo 3DS, please help :(

ConsiderTwistedXD Unfortunately, the DSi wont recognize sd cards larger than 32 gb even after formatting in Fat32. If you really need one, you can go to amazon or like a Walmart target or other stores like that and get a 32 GB sd card. They’re dirt cheap nowadays

I followed everything and my 64gb dd card is in fat32 format however when I put it in my 3ds it says “Cannot display the software on the SD Card. The SD Card could not be accessed.” Any idea why? :/
