Hi. Can the silicone oil be used on thread used in an ordinary sewing machine or is it just for embroidery thread? Thanks, Val

@valg7453 You can use it on ordinary sewing thread if it is a polyester based thread.

How often would you use this on cottons? I keep my cotton in a plastic box out of the sun, would that be better for them?

@jeancoulter2194 Dust and sunlight are the enemies of thread in general. Best to keep them stored as you have mentioned to help give longevity. Use of the silicon spray is as needed.

Gary I've been "oiling" my prewound bobbins for some years... so they are mainly cotton bobbins... would you recommend the Helmar Silicon Oil for the cotton thread? I do the oiling the night before I will be using the bobbins. Also, if one oils a spool of thread such as you have done on the video, but then only use the thread for a few items then put it away... would you oil again before using it again if say a few months had gone by? Thanks, Helen.

@1994henny The threads should be oiled as required. If you are finding you are not having any issues with it then you do not need to spray them. Cotton thread can be sprayed as required, but again, you don't need to spray everytime you use them. Just as required.

Could you use the silicone oil on overlocking thread
@EchidnaClub
@EchidnaClub Месяц назад
@fayechick441 It is not recommended on Overlockers unless it is an industrial machine. What issues are you having with your thread?

@@EchidnaClub hi thanks for the advice, I have been given a number of spools of thread unsure how old they are and saw your article. I don’t have an overlocker so giving them to someone who does. Again thank you for reply. Faye
