Practise in a safe environment before using sky hooks on a big wall. Set up a top rope or go ‘aid bouldering’ to test them out. They may damage the rock, so stay away from established routes when practising. This video was filmed on a pile of choss, in the middle of nowhere, in Canada.
Good video about the strength of various aid climbing hooks:

The dedication it requires to destroy a screamer falling on a hook for the audience is incredible!

Loving the video. Excellent animation, I'm very impressed! Especially with how you integrate the animation into the real-world footage.

Wow, great video. Skyhooks are a fantastic tool. Where I live there is a small overhanging wall where it is possible to top rope. It is not bolted. It's just rock with a nice tree above the wall. And it's nice to climb it in aid: only Skyhooks can be used, on millimeter rock thicknesses. When they give up, as the wall overhangs, you fly away into the void. With the top rope, it's pure adrenaline, with low chances of dying. You learn a lot, and safely. I look forward to more videos !!!!

I love this, very helpful video! I wonder if gaffers tape may perform even slightly more reliably than duct tape? I’m not A Climber in the traditional sense, but your video really helped me understand the purpose of these tools. Thanks and subscribed!

It's a Yates adjustable daisy, rated to 5kN. Great for aid climbing. Not great for attaching yourself to belays.

Why you use energy absorber in 3:43? Didn't you use dynamic rope?
@RickyHarline
@RickyHarline Год назад
The rope is very good at reducing the energy the climber experiences, but the highest force in the system is still the highest piece of pro being weighted. If the belayer sees 2kn and the climber sees 4 than then the pro receives six. Adding a screamer reduces the amount of energy the pro receives at any one time by spreading it out over a longer period of time, so instead of seeing 6kn it might only receive 3 or 4. Screamers are used in tenuous placements for this reason. Climbers who do a lot of hard aid might have a dozen or more of them.

Was really enjoying this video right until you "fell" and chipped the rock. Not sure if that was an actual climb, but I'd be pissed if someone aid climbed a route in the peaks and snapped off a hold on a trad route for a RU-vid video.

@@vdiffclimbing I didn't think someone who put so much care into teaching the various forms of climbing would! Thank you for the reassurance though!

Better to break it off while doing stuff like this than on an actual climb. If it broke it was not so solid anyway.
