This channel deserves more subs and views! It's my first time seeing videos like this by a filipino and a doctor at that. It has always been a dream of mine to work in the healthcare industry and everytime I watch your vids I can't help but get inspired and push myself more. Great content As a viewer, I can really say it's well thought. Thank you for the hardwork you put in your vids and looking forward to more uploads in the future

Interesting! I don't remember Hermann Ebbinghaus ever mentioning to review material exactly every 12 days. Most spaced repetition methodologies I have encountered involve starting with closer intervals and then increasing the interval lengths. For example, start with one hour, then wait twelve hours, one day, three days, and then one week.

have you tried using any spaced repetition apps?

@@memorychatai Hello. At age 61, I have not figured out how to use apps yet. LOL! I have experimented with spaced repetition while using a digital watch. This methodology takes a lot of effort though. I have memorized all 46 presidents and all 49 vice-presidents as well as some other lists. I do not find spaced repetition to be the "magic formula" though. I use it in conjunction with other memory techniques.

@@urbanlegendsandtrivia2023 Ah ok. I do not like to use apps either. It feels that it is more of a burden than a supportive tool. However, that changed with chatGPT. I actually started to enjoy learning with it and doing revisions with chatGPT

Unless you cover all of for eg. cardiology in one day its going to be hard to repeat anything

have you tried using it? I had headaches when I was in uni and tried to incorporate it into my routine. Now using custom GPT on the GPT store for that purpose and helps!

Agree:))) Spaced repetition helps to eliminate knowledge waste. When you learn and forget, it is like not even learning in the first place.. All of that time you spent is wasted in my opinion

how does spaced repetition work when in medschools, you have multiple subjects with multiple quizzes to review for? can you please make a structured video on HOW to actually incorporate it in philippine med school curriculum? for example, can i incorporate it in the middle of the sem when i have so many backlogs? kelan lang sya pwedeng gamitin? puro kasi spaced repetition kasi nakikita ko pero parang di naman applicable sa philippine med school satin. baka lang may namimiss ako. salamat po, 3rd yr med student here.

how do you apply spaced repitition when you have quizzes everyday that are announced the day before it occurs?? this has always been my problem with spaced repitition because I dont seem to have the time to apply it

Those surprise quizzes are really just to see if you've been studying without knowing there's a quiz ahead of time

Thanks doc, for a levels and stuff dyu think for subjects like biology we should revisit, after 2 weeks, 4 weeks then 3 months or more
@memorychatai
@memorychatai Месяц назад
It depends on your level and how well you encode the material. I like to give this task to a custom GPT so that I do not have to worry. A general rule of thumb is that you should review when you are about to forget something but still able to recall. Talking from experience here:)

Can you clarify something for me? I get that you labeled one topic per day for the first 12 days, so day 1 was cardio and day 13 was cardio, in between they one and third 13 did you review cardio on day 3,4, or5?

In no where in the book "Make it Stick" does it mention an interval of 12 days. That may be what worked for you but that's not what research shows work.
@memorychatai
@memorychatai Месяц назад
Yes, the intervals do vary. The optimal intervals depend on how well you perform on a subject and how much prior knowledge you have. There is no size fits all interval but spaced repetition algorithms (on apps mostly) help you to find the best review time
