Do you want your battery voltage telemetry on your rc plane? This is a tutorial on how to connect the telemetry lead to your ESC. There are three options, one doesn't require any soldering skills.
Will what a great tutorial. These helpful tip/technique vids you're doing will help so many modelers. I like the hole-pokin' technique...not sure why...
Thanks Adam. It was a request from a comment on one of my build videos.. Love when the community help with content ideas... So, you like the hole pokin' method..? You are just wrong in the head my friend..😀
Great demo. Spektrum includes that little pigtail with the 637T and 8360 receivers I have purchased but I have never found any official Spektrum documentation on its use.
So natural in front of the camera, I'm jealous. Amazon sells a great kit with crimpers wire and all kinds of hobby connectors perfect for doing mods fixing servos making your own extensions all kinds of nerdy stuff we like. I think I paid around 30 bucks Canadian
I like to talk... I do it for a living, talking is the only talent I have.. :-). Curious about that kit. I bought a dupont connector crimper kit and its served me well for FPV and my other planes....
Good info & demonstration of how to do this process. I especially like how you were able to caution people to not ruin their receiver. But I also think you are just stalling - I want to see you fly that big, beautiful P - 47 !!!
Ha.. The weather here has been terrible and just want to make sure that P-47 is shown in the best conditions.. I think later this week the weather will be optimal.. At least I hope..
You did say you were going to make this vid and thank you for being a man of your word . You covered alot of this in your last vid on this topic but a bit more useful stuff here too . I need to pay more attention before asking questions already answered . Have a great weekend .
I appreciate you providing me with feedback. Sometimes my videos are clear as can be to me.. but I may have missed the mark. Please continue to give me feedback as it helps me make the content better.
@@SteffenRC I love your content and after i rewatched the last vid i asked my question on i realized the answer was in that vid , i felt like an idiot but this vid just drives home your original mod or fix you showed , thanks again
I just bought five new AR637T's for my 90mm EDF's so that I can monitor the flight pack voltage. I soldered the red wire to a cut down plug that I plug into the balance connector on the flight pack. However, it would be nice to not have to plug into the balance plug before each flight. It's an extra step that one might forget to do. I'm doing it because the balance plug gives a more accurate reading since there's no current flowing through it. I didn't like the voltage drop I was seeing at the Avian ESC in my 90mm Freewing Zeus. I had to tinker with the voltage alarm because it was telling me to land too soon.
Gotcha.. Lots of options. I've kinda stuck with the red Spektrum lead soldered to my ESC red wire. Gives me the info I need. I just bought a Lemon RX 8ch rx with battery telemetry lead, just to test.. Love tinkering with all these parts of the hobby..
@@SteffenRC I've been putting the new AR637T's in EDF's that previously had AR636's with AS3X and SAFE. When I set up new planes in the future, I'll probably put the red lead near the connector in the ESC lead.
Tapping the telemetry wire on balance plug is a bad idea. Balance plug is flimsy and sometimes the wire comes off the soldering joint on your old battery. When the wire comes off mid air, all of a sudden you have zero volt reading and enough to get you nervous. You need battery voltage reading so current flows thru main cable is irrelevant.
@@henryairconcepts2999 I cut down a connector to plug onto the balance plug. The balance plug gives the most accurate reading of the battery's voltage because there's no voltage drop due to current thru it. However, the negative side at the receiver changes due to current flow. When I use the voltage reading at the ESC (using an Avian ESC), the voltage reading drops to 3.5 volts/cell long before it does at the balance plug. I have to use a higher voltage limit when I use the ESC's voltage reading.
I have several LemonRX, seems to work well.. Just got a 7 channel with stability and voltage telemetry. Curious on real performance data. You said they are better, have you done any formal testing?
I havent done formal test.I dont have the equipment for it.Just from experience,I have an AR8000 intermittent signal lost and crashed 2 of my planes, an AR636 burnt out. I have 3 lemon rx stabilized plus gen1, a 10ch lemon rx gen2 and a Orangerx 9ch telemetry. None of those aftermarket rx has given me lost signal. I got to the point where I trust aftermarket DSMX rx more than genuine spektrum rx. Redcon rx from aliexpress were also longer range and reliable until they made the knock off ones
