My iPad can also do Split View. And I don’t really use Split View on my home PC that much. So, all in all, I think I’d prefer Split View for iPad. No biggie.
If you'll be ever able to buy one, buy it! It’s really worth it! What Steve Jobs said when he introduced iPhone, is also true for Mac: “It works like magic.”
I love using macOS, however I think this particular feature is implemented much more intuitively in most linux distributions. However, apple being apple, they will keep it the way it is.
i wish it offered split view in a vertical orientation so that top and bottom are separated. I can see this being really helpful for a vertical monitor orientation.

Windows 11 had this since it's first beta release in June 2021, and not only split screen, but also other combinations like 4 small windows, or one big and two small at the sides.
This is great! I've been using third-party utilities to do this for years in OSX. But please go further with this, and pretty much copy Window's snap management system, then add that Apple flavor to that please to make it even better in macOS. Since we generally have so much more screen real estate in OSX than we do in IOS, it would be great to be able to split the screen in 3 or 4 zones instead of just 2. Thanks for adding this, though.
Love it! For the next upgrade of MacOS, if Apple can make the trackpad completely separated from the mouse for the natural scrolling option, things would be even better. When I unchecked that option for my mouse, it automatically unchecked that option for the trackpad too, which reversed the direction of my scrolling for the trackpad, when I only wanted that for the mouse. A little bit disappointed, but for now, I'm still liking it. Just switch from Windows to Mac :)
I used to use three fingers gestures to snap windows left or right and even on corners of the screen.. in windows 11.. I feel disappointed that such small facility isn't available in macOS. Yes, third part apps are there which provide such facility.. but native programs bave different efficiency and third party apps drain battery faster.
Why not just do like windows or linux for the splitting and putting fullscreen? it's way faster and intuitiver. I hope they fix that in the following os. Or even the one implemented on iPads is better. Having to put your mouse on the little green button and wait for half a second is super annoying
I wish Apple would allow the settings app to be a split view capable app. Sometimes if I need to know how to do some thing and I am watching it on RU-vid or hunting for it on safari it would be nice to have settings in the other half of the split on iPad so that I could immediately inact what I was learning to do
Oh this is much much easier in Windows. Just press win and arrow keys. You can tile several more apps in different combinations too (One half size app and two quarter apps for instance).
For all the people complaining that windows does it better, I'm pretty sure it because Microsoft patented window snapping in 2005. Apple doesn't want the law suit.
Its crazy how long it took Apple to include to such a feature. People with old MacBook's are screwed since upgrading to latest OS would be system resource death sentence.
We’d be happy to provide information about this. Split View works with tiling one window left and one window right. Learn more here: s.apple.com/dE4l4r3o6w For more help, please reach out here: apple.co/GetSupport
They are both late release including windows. Windows 10 does not have multi window when it comes to multitasking. I done that on windows 10 and macOS Catalina as both older OS versions do not have splitting window function.
I want to be able to use a keyboard shortcut to switch between split screen apps (in the same desktop), similarly to how I can switch between tabbed apps using the cmd+shift+arrow keys. I don't want to use a mouse to do that.
Even Mac has had it for a long time btw. The Mac I used previously(I now use windows for gaming) is from 2015 and has that feature. I think the one on the windows feels more intuitive. The point of this video was just to show people that their macs could do it, they just used MacOS Monterey to show it, it isn’t advertised as a new feature. I knew I would find a comment like this lol.
Can you see how on the left hand screen, you can't use the back, refresh, and many other functions? The only way to do so is to exit this screen mode and lose split view. Quite annoying and time consuming, would be great to have the function improved.
Thank you thank you thank you. I just got my first little MacBook Air and I created another page but I couldn’t get back to the first one. Thank you for helping me with that with the fourth finger trick. Great job keep up the good work definitely subscribing to you because I don’t know jack about Mac computers but I’m glad you do. Thank you.❤ 😂
Magnet app has been around for a while and works on older version of Mac OS. I still find it hard to justify the need of split view consider Mac OS is multitasking multi window OS. You can resize windows and remember windows positions. You can drag element between windows by using combined key strokes. Not every features have to be right in front of the eyes. Control option keys combination with drag and drops has been working well for many years.
@brucecheng7856 I beg to differ here. I feel there is a need for Spilt View especially if you need to copy information found on the internet to a blank Microsoft Word Document for example.
During my Masters Degree assignments i'd have 15 side by side apps/ pdfs/ browser sessions open. No latency issues what so ever from just 16gb ram. Nothing can beat this level of productivity.
"15 side by side apps pdfs and browsers" Literally the unless you're using some kind of 3D rendering application, PDFs and Browsers are not something to brag about on 16gb of ram. "I bought a huge bag and fit 15 pens, pencils and a pocket calculator"
Nice but Windows still has the better feature. For Mac users, it's worth spending a few dollars to buy the Better Snap Tool which does exactly what the Windows feature does.

Great question and we’re here to assist! You can use Split View on your Mac for any apps but only two at a time. For additional help with using Split View on your Mac, please reach out to us here: apple.co/GetSupport
Honestly, the only reason someone would want to buy an Apple Mac product (over Windows products) is for the hardware and durability. When it comes to the software, Windows is light years ahead. A simple 'Windows' + Left arrow would do the trick in the Windows, but here it seems everything is so much more complicated.
Thanks for reaching out to us with you questions about Split View on Mac. We’re happy to assist. This feature is only intended to work with 2 apps, so there’s no option for setting this up to work with a 3rd application. You can read more about this in the following link: s.apple.com/dE0w5u0E4c If you have additional questions, please reach out to us at: apple.co/GetSupport
Now I understand what Steve Jobs meant when he said, 'You can't look at the competition and say you're going to do it better. You have to look at the competition and say you're going to do it differently'.
We need features like 1. App lock to lock any application 2. PiP for WhatsApp and facebook video calls 3. call recording is a MUST HAVE in the times of fraud
I’ve been using Macs for my job for over 20 years. And I can’t help but notice the last 5 years the OS has kind of slid downhill in terms of UI and general usability. In system settings can anyone ever remember where a particular setting is? I still don’t know what Mission Control or stage are is, and it’s 2024 and I can’t separate how my mouse wheel scrolls vs my trackpack, I have to install a random app from the internet on my work computer for that. Also I noticed today that I can’t use 3 monitors at once. Really weird random bugs all the time that would never happen in a million years back in the day. I’ve switched to linux for my personal computers and while it takes a bit of work sometimes to get it installed, the modern Linux desktops have everything you need and there’s a very simple menu and you can add extensions if you want more complexity. Times they are a changin’.
