This video shows how you can use Stopwatches in MacroDroid.
The macro shown is a simplified example and is intended only to demonstrate how a stopwatch may be started, paused and reset and displayed using magic text. In addition to what is shown here, a Stopwatch trigger is available that can be used to trigger a macro when the Stopwatch hits a certain time.

This is quite unreliable. If this ever misses an app close trigger, it will increase the value massively. That can easily happen on a MacroDroid crash, if it is killed in the background by one of the many Android systems that like to do this, if the system has a lag spike in a bad moment, on a reboot or, completely unavoidably, when you rip out the battery while RU-vid is running. Also, I am unsure about the reliability of "trigger fired" conditions, but I have not yet analysed my detailed logs about them to figure out what exactly the issue is.

This is a tutorial video to show new users how to use the various features of StopWatches and hopefully it illustrates this adequately. You are correct that using this macro as is beyond a learning exercise is not recommended.
