Thank you so very much. Today is March 2024. Although this video is several years old, I was able to figure out how to accomplish score lines! Took me 2 hours using my android phone. I was able to write my own cheat sheet based on your video. I just started with Cricut. Very helpful, thank you again.

Hello. I have Explore Air 2 and notice that it doesn't score deep enough. I want my score lines to be cut like the Cameo machines does but I don't know how to design that in Design Space. Do you mind giving me advice on how to achieve cut dashed lines using my Cricut

Thank you for your detailed but straight forward explanation. My Question is if you only have solid cut lines and want dashes, because my scoring wheels don't really work, how can I achieve that. I've been trying so many things and it's driving me CRAZY. PLEASE HELP.
Hi Trudie, I’m so glad you found this video helpful unfortunately there’s not currently an easy way to create dashed score lines in Cricut Design Space. If all you need is a single straight score line (like for a basic card), it’s possible, but not the easiest to do - I’ll see if I can make a video that shows how. If you need multiple dashed score lines, or if you need the score lines to follow a curve, then you’ll need to use a vector design software to create a dashed line that will cut instead of score.

I'm really frustrated because even svgs that have dashed lines in my download files translate to solid lines therefore cut files when I upload them. IF I change them to dashes (score lines) in design space then I am forced to use a score wheel which is pretty much useless. I really look forward to the the video whenever you make it but for now I guess I need to source how to convert my files into vector. Please help if you can. Thanks again, Trudie
@@trudiezavadovics1750 If you will be working with SVG files often, then I highly recommend Adobe Illustrator. Otherwise, Affinity Designer or Inkscape are other options. Any vector program is going to have a learning curve though, since there is so much you can do with vectors! I'm not sure what you mean about files you have with dashed score lines that translate as solid score lines when you upload them - is there a screen shot you can share? And yes, whenever you set a line to "score" in Design Space, the line will become dashed to signify scoring (confusing I know), but the line is still solid, and you will be prompted to insert a scoring tool. Regarding converting files into vector, if you have SVG files, they are already in vector format (SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphic).
Thanks again Kristen, To be honest I am confused because I do ave svgs and the line is sometimes still solid and it cuts everything. So I sort of feel stuck. I will try the vector programs although I'm not sure if I'll get past the learning curve. : ( But I will give it a try : )
@@trudiezavadovics1750 Whether the line will be solid or dashed depends on how to designer created the file. I offer both solid and dashed with my files, but some designers only include one or the other. 🤷♀You can totally get past the learning curve, it just takes lots of practice! :)
I downloaded one of your free designs, princess unicorn. I opened the instructions page as well. I was wondering if you could do an instructional video on how to use the designs with print and cut and also for htv. I'm afraid I don't understand the instructions. Also mine uploaded very tiny into D's and I don't know how to uniformly enlarge all the pieces! Thank you!
Hi Cathy! Thanks for your interest in my designs and video request! I do plan to add more videos for using my files for things like print then cut, and layered designs like HTV, but I'm not sure when I'll have time in my schedule to get those recorded. I'll do my best to answer your questions here, but if you still need help, feel free to email me at support[at]printablecuttablecreatables.com! For print then cut, you basically want to select the design and choose "Flatten" and then you should be good to go. For HTV, you would want to use one of the versions of the design that is labeled "ideal for vinyl" in the instructions. These have overlapping layers already subtracted for you, so you can just cut the designs in different colors of HTV and layer them. Here's a great tutorial for layering multiple colors of HTV: www.siserna.com/how-layer-siser-heat-transfer-vinyl/ Regarding the file size, it sounds like you are opening the file in the DS app, which shrinks down designs. If you have access to a computer, it's easier to upload the file using the desktop version of Design Space, which will keep the correct design size. Then you can save the project, and when you open the project from the app, it should keep the correct size. If you don't have access to the Desktop version, then you can resize in the app by selecting the full design, then click and drag the little arrow at the bottom right corner of the design to increase the size to whatever you need it to be.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I was wondering if there was a simple way to change dashed (cut/score) lines to solid score lines? I downloaded a very large svg file and everything is dashed score lines not solid ones. Thank you in advance! Sharon :)
Hi Sharon, I’m glad you found this video helpful! Unfortunately if a file only came with dashed score lines, there is no easy way to change those lines to be solid in Design Space. You would need to manually replace each fold line using the Line tool (in the Shapes menu) and then delete the dashed lines.
You can try setting the Pressure option to "more", or try choosing a different (thicker) material setting such as Heavy Cardstock, but unfortunately I've found the scoring stylus doesn't get enough pressure to score well on heavier materials. :/ If you don't have scoring wheels and can't get the scoring stylus to score deep enough, you might want to use the Dashed Score line version and use the blade of your machine to cut along the dashes to create your fold lines.
Thank you so so so much for your detailed explanation of how to do this. I bought an svg and was so excited to cut and put it together. After wasting about 4 sheets of cardstock I realized they didn't have score marks. :( I could not figure out why they were showing on the screen but not when sent to the mat! You are awesome! Now lll be up all night building my project.! Thank you!!!
I second Bonnie Ladd's comment that you have given us a detailed explanation and Thank you. Very helpful for novice like myself. Is there a way to cut it even without a scoring wheel? I mean let the machine do dashes using the fine knife? Thank you.
Thanks so much - I'm glad you found this video helpful. Yes! You can score without a scoring wheel using an SVG file with Dashed score lines. With a dashed score lines, the regular blade of your Cricut will cut along the dashes to create a foldable edge. I explain using Dashed score line files in this video at the 00:58 time mark. :)
@@PrintableCuttableCreatables thanks for the reply. I tried it, changing to score and then attach but the machine will not move, ie does error because not correct tool used/detected. any other way? I have just updated the software, maybe it allowed before the new updated version? thanks.
@@mimiesmirayzedtoo6615 If you were using the blade of your machine with a dash score line file you don’t need to set it to score because the machine will be cutting the dashed lines. (When you set layers to score it tells your machine that you’re using a scoring tool that’s why you’re seeing the error message)

Thank you. It was easy to understand. I had a 3D letter given to me in jpeg and I converted it to svg and when I goes in to DS with it I find it’s hard to get the broken lines all as one to join as one. I’m using iPad not computer. So do 7 think this is my problem?
Glad you found this helpful Christine. If you use an online file converter to convert to SVG, then the score lines will likely cut as very skinny rectangles instead of dashes. You can try to use the layers panel and select all the broken line layers and attach them, which should get them to act as a single layer, but they may still cut as very skinny rectangles. If the lines are all straight, you could also try deleting them and replacing with score lines from the Design Space shape menu.
Hi! I design in Illustrator and convert my files to svg. However, some of my customers have had issues with the score lines not working. In addition to what you recommend re grouping the object, do you have a recommendation in terms of the score line style I should be using in Illustrator to convert properly into svg? - eg length of dashes, stroke weight, etc.?

Hi Jane, the problem with using the dashed line is that it only creates the appearance of a dashed line. If you view your design in outline mode, you’ll see the line is still a solid path- and that’s how cutting machines will read it. The best way I’ve found to create actual dashed score lines is to create a brush and then expand it. - Draw horizontal stroke the desired width of your dashed line - using 0.1 pt - 0.25pt stroke weight. - Select and drag line into Brushes panel, choose Pattern Brush - Set Spacing to 50%, click OK To Apply Brush: - Draw score lines on your design as needed using a solid path. - Select all score lines and apply score line brush - Object > Path > Outline stroke - With dashes still selected, make compound path. Hi Toya, The steps are the same on the iPad, but the functions are located in different places in the DS app. I’ll add an iPad tutorial to my list, but in the meantime here’s how to do it: 1. Click the Layers icon along the bottom toolbar which will open the Layers panel on the right side. 2. In the Layers panel, tap to select one score line layer, then tap and hold another score line layer to select multiple layers at the same time. 3. Tap the Edit icon (bottom toolbar) and tap the Linetype icon (far left). Change the Linetype from Cut to Score and tap Apply. 4. Then tap to select the score line layer and it’s corresponding box piece and tap the Actions icon (bottom menu) and choose “Attach” 5. Repeat step 4 to attach each score line layer to its corresponding box shape. 6. Then you’re ready to click Make it! (If you’re not using scoring tool and are using a file with dashed score lines, then skip steps 2 & 3)
Is the file labeled as dashed score line but opens with solid score lines? If so, you should be able to treat them as solid score lines and set the Line Type to “score” as shown in the video. Of course that would only help if you have a scoring wheel or stylus. If you don’t have a scoring tool, you may need to contact the designer to let them know so they can send you a file with dashed lines. :)
Hello I purchased my file from cricut and it opens up with the dashes lines that say score and the box outline is labeled cut. When I go to changed the dashed lines from score to cut it just cuts a straight line every time instead of cutting every dash. Help! Thanks!
Hi Kristal- files from Cricut will open with score lines already prepared to score. The actual score lines used in the file are solid lines, even though they appear to be dashed lines, that is just how Design Space indicates that those lines are set to be scored. I do not think there is currently a way to turn a solid score line into a real dashed score line.
I was finally able to make my 1 st box, but, it is clearly NOT for my 4 inch flat round ornaments! not even close, UGH....I paid for a 4 inch box and my 3 inch wont even fit, my 4 inch not even close.
