A couple of years ago I did a tutorial over the AKAI MPK Mini MK2 and it helped a lot of you out so I wanted to do a little refresher video using the AKAI MPK Mini MK3 to show you all some of internal capabilities as well as answer questions from the previous video. Let me know what other tutorials you liked me to do.
I just got mine in the mail I’m new to midi and all but been playing guitar for some years and getting nasty on that bass guitar with Scott’s bass lessons it seems. It’s about to go down
@Courtney Hawkins I've come across multiple "small" issues even with my setup of logic pro x and the Akai mpk mini mk3, that I have deleted all of the software in rage. :) Seriously, there are so many small bugs that can happen - e.g. latency issues, notes sound "not normal" but last much longer when a key on the keyboard is pressed, etc. etc. - what I would be searching for a is a super simple tutorial video a. how to get started by literally filming everything from the first unpacking of the keyboad, download, installation, trouble shooting, etc. so that at least the basic setup works. I honestly did not even get to the point where I have the software installed and working with the keyboard without trouble.
It’s midi it’s ok if there are mistakes. Use the brush tool to fix note length, use the quantize tool to your advantage. The first couple of notes usually silent cause there are a little before the bar just delete them and move to to the grid.
This was, hands down, the most helpful, straightforward, and well done tutorials I've ever watched on youtube. In less than 10 mins you've made writing music 100x's easier and I can't thank you enough!
Wow this was so helpful! Love seeing a woman in one of these tutorials for once too. By far the best, most no nonsense tutorial I've found. Instantly subscribed!
I CANNOT wait to get home and watch this all over again. I'm had my MPK3 for months and haven't been able to figure this out clearly based on their instructions. Thank you so much.
You’ve taught me more in 9 minutes, than the hours I spent watching others tutorials. Including Akai themselves. Keep doing your thang, you just got a subscriber!!!
i feel so dumb, i've gone so long without using the knobs on my MPK because I wrongly assumed it just didn't work with Logic. Thank you for reeducating me! You've earned a subscriber!
Finally I learned something...Thank you for this. What surprised me a lot after this tutorial is that many so called reviews describe the little display on the mk III as useless because it's not showing much. Either they don't know how to use it either they don't want to actually share knowledge... When I played with the note repeats function and I tried all the knobs, I actually got the values displayed there. So, for example if you change the Division holding the note repeat button you can actually see the division numbers changing on the display. Same with octaves and others...you really made me love this little controller. Cheers!
@@CourtneyHawkins Hi Courtney, thank you for this helpful tutorial. Do you know if you can map/learn the start and end point handles in the Quick Sampler to the MPK Mini knobs? This would make chopping samples soo much easier.
I just happened to be looking for a new mpk mini controller because the first key on my mpk hasn't worked in months. Tried every fix it video with no results. Found your tutorial on the mk3 and in learn mode deleted some old settings and my one key on my mpk mini is working again. Thank you for your tutorial. Many blessings on your future endeavors...
watched this video once before but I hadn't even touched my kai mini yet. This 2nd time around this video has been the most helpful. really straight forward guidance
Very informative after watching so many tutorials this one is actually has bunch of technical information.. As Newbie can you please do some tutorial using MPC Beats
thanks x the tip- latch mode /control surface- to sync MPK3 knobs with logic parameters !! Very well explained and really useful ... it's actually the only one tutorial on YT explain in it ... thanks a lot :)
ohhhhhh girl that really is a lot of info to take all into my brain,, but really cool Thanks for sharing it. I bought the same akai mpk mini but I have zero idea on how to use it.. I hope videos like urs will get me through
This is one very good tutorial! I am just beginning to use Logic and you convinced me to get an mpk mini mk3, I was hesitating between a few. Please do more Logic tutorial please!
Searched on youtube to find a video to help setup the mpk mini since I can't get it to work on logic. She just connects and it works... if only it were so easy
That tip about fixing the joystick is a lifesaver. Now on my second MPKmini after a USB port went bad, but both suffered from the joystick always panning everything left. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your tutorial. I struggled with my midi keyboard for weeks and You showed me a drum pad!!! unbelievable. I have so much to learn about using instruments
Thank you for super clear guidance, as a bass player I am a total beginer whom just unpacked this beauty. Really looking forward to see more of your tutorials, keep up with the good work :)
This is hands down one of the absolute, most helpful videos on the Akai MPK integration. I have struggled in the past with the integration and especially assignment of pads and knobs, but this right here is so incredibly easily explained. Very much appreciated, you have been a great help. One question though: is it possible to copy the assignment to other tracks (e.g. I want that particular knob to be the frequency knob for all tracks) or do I have to repeat that process for every added track?
OMG! I've watched people making covers of songs on this and thought, "That is really neat and it doesn't look too hard. Maybe I could learn to do that and make music." That is really complicated and hours of work to play a 90 second snippet of some song. I appreciate and admire those who can do that but I don't think I will ever get there. Thanks.
Thanks for video. I'm in logic pro x 10.4.8 and The drum pads won't trigger the drum designer keys. I can get 4 of them to work, but the others don't. I try to look for MIDI controller in the preferences, but it's not showing, can't even install it manually. Am I missing something? I feel like it should be pretty brainless to use, but I can't program drumpads to correspond with active keys in drum designer.
Hi Courtney, great vid, super helpful. Logic Pro is updated, is it possible to do a small tutorial on updated Logic Pro. I just updated on September 2023.
Great video, you should do LogicProX tutorials! You are a natural at making DAW tutorials, this was the most direct and helpful How To Video Iv seen in a long time. You asked for ideas on future tutorials, I would absolutely love an in depth on LogicProX channel management. When I have a session using Electronic Drums and Keyboards (both controlling separate midi sounds/channels within Logic) often times one will cut out when I’m adjusting the mix on the other.
Love your content! I bought the MK3 a few months ago, thanks in part to your videos on it. I’ve still got a lot to learn about it...thanks for sharing!
This was so dang helpful, Courtney! Thank you for taking the time to break this all down, and I can't wait to watch all your other tutorial videos!! :]
First of all, THANK YOU! You are so good at this, while I am a newbie. I got this for Christmas and had no idea what the heck it was. My mom thought it would be something good for me to learn. Oh was she right! For anyone who still is uncertain about getting this.. GET IT! This thing saved my non existent music career ( well I’m working on making it existing lol) You just made something that seemed like Latin EZ I had trouble using the DMD cuz I had garage band up until 2 weeks ago and it was worth the money. I just love how you make everything simple. Also I’m 11 and I understand so you can do it too!
Thank you Courtney fir this very helpful tutorial. From Akai, there's no guide or reference sheet for the built-in Logic Pro template with the AKAI MPK Mini MK3. I'm still in the dark with what this Logic Pro 'template' allows us to do with Logic? The AKAI MPK Mini MK3 doesn't have any Transport function and it seems that we have to manually set-up individual knobs with Plug-ins?
@@CourtneyHawkins Before investing in it. I was actually looking for a controller that would help me get my ideas out fast. And mainly, if the arp or note repeat is only real-time playing or we can actually record the midi data. There are tons of videos where they talk about mk2 and mk3 but no one showed this option. This was only shown in your video and you actually convinced me to go for the MK3. Other than that, i was thinking of going with Arturia MK2. But your video helped me in making a concrete decision.
@@CourtneyHawkins It would be great if you could do a series on MK3 and its functioning with logic pro x. As this is the most selling mini midi board. I am sure your video or maybe an in-depth tutorial would be very helpful to many. Also, what do you recommend to add with the mk3 as a portable music production setup. What I got were Korg nanokontrol2 and a sustain pedal.
The realist producer in the game!Sorry if you already did a video on this. Can you do a tutorial on splice? Or send me a link if you already did a video on splice.
