@@maedilein6802I read in one of the comments to place it on your upper waist area, so I’m thinking that means below the breasts. We do need a video though.
Looks better than sleep studies of old, where you get fitted with a bunch of wires on your head and parts of your body. Plus, you do it at home instead of some weird place with a camera on you.
The advantage of the sleep studies of old was that _somebody else hooked you up_ and you could be assured that everything was being done correctly. This DIY s*** is for the birds. Surely there's some value in not ramping up the patient's anxiety to sky high levels right before they are supposed to lie down and go to sleep!
I envy you long term CPAP users. I did a CPAP test and got 45 minutes total sleep with it over more than a month of testing 5 years ago. The severe sleep apnea gave me AFib. Tonight I take this test to be able to get a simple canula attached to an oxygen maker to help a little bit. How I wish the CPAP had worked for me.
@@NeerajSharma-pw1zu Not everyone can tolerate CPAP and some sleep disorders won't resolve with CPAP. Two other alternatives are APAP and BiPAP, Adaptive Servo Ventilation, as well as oral and nasal appliances. It really depends on the individual and their particular situation.
@@jennbrown1163I used a CPAP machine for almost 15. All of a sudden the masks started breaking my face out. Tried different styles, even nose pillows. I finally had to give it up after a needed dermatologist visit. It's a miracle I never croaked in my sleep. Years later I'm testing for Inspire now. Hopefully I'll have success with this kit. Has to be more comfortable than the old fashioned CPAP with hose attached to the face. 😊
I had the old school test some 15 years ago, got diagnosed with sleep apnea, but could not tolerate the CPAP dash dash masks don't fit the peculiar configurations of my facial bones and all that happens is that cold, dry , air blows in my eyes and keeps me half-awake (and uncomfortable, natch) all night. The alternative is a mouthguard which protects both against sleep apnea and teeth grinding, but it feels so gross and horrible in my mouth, and is so covered with gross saliva by morning, that I find it utterly revolting and thus have never been able to develop the habit of wearing it. It has sat in my medicine chest probably 9,997 of the last 10,000 nights. This for $1,500 a pop, twice now. I'd really rather just develop AFib and die.
Tonight is my exam with the sleep Acnea machine. I ask my God that everything goes well ... Thank you very much for the explanation as the instructions sent by the doctor on the paper are a little confusing.
I completed the in-home sleep study with this machine last evening. I actually slept better with this monitor attached! When I woke up in the middle of the night, I went back to sleep (although it took awhile to fall asleep again) rather than my usual habit of turning on the light and reading for several hours because "I can't sleep!". I'll be very interested to hear the results.
@@fsreyes1 are you sure you know what this diagnostic tool looks like? It has something that you put into your nose and breath through. So this fella might have had a good night’s sleep because he could breath better because of it. Some ppl actually buy a similar aid to sleep with. I tried that but it wasn’t as nice as the one came with the machine because it was much smaller.
I completed my at home sleep study. Compared to other machines I've used. I found this machine to be the best. Easy setup, no confusing instructions. I was greatful to have found this video on RU-vid. I just wanted to just cross reference to make sure. I was properly hook up. Cant wait for my results
@@BlackMamba-lt8oe It is the at home test. Your doctor will loan it to you for testing and then you have to return it so the office can see your results. Then if it's warranted, you would be fitted for a cpap and mask.
I agree with you the ease of use was wonderful. I just wish that Dr. Office would have provided link or qr code to this video. I realize I inserted nose sensor upside-down and behind my head instead of under my chin. I hope my test results aren't flawed.
Abou to do mine rn.. I have to use it for 3 nights. $350 and my insurance didn’t cover this! But I hope in God this is gonna help me to determinate my problem! I been feeling tired, dizzy when I wake up and waking up like I can’t breath in the night . The video is helpful and now when I see many comments I have to tell everyone that we not alones we all have families and want to leave a normal life! Let’s take care of our health friends!
I just done a sleep study with this machine and I found it to be very difficult to sleep with it, the nose unit made my nose itchy and having wires and the machine on my person made it hard for me to stay asleep.
Instructions very clear and helpful. Unfortunately, I am not able to sleep with anything attached and that is what happened today, at 3 something am I disconnected the monitor. I was told to return it today.
Did my test the other day. Everything went smoothly. Happy to report I have no apnea whatsoever. Sadly this doesn't explain why I suffocate in my sleep sometimes...
I was told by my doctor this test is only 70% reliable. Ask your doc for a clinical sleep study. They’ll have you stay overnight hooked up to fancier equipment.
The overnight sleep study where you're hooked up to all kinds of leads and then told "try not to move too much". Who can sleep like that? Plus they get you there around 8 p.m. I normally don't go to bed until midnight. I'm doing the at home test tonight but am not looking forward to it. I have sciatic pain if I sleep on my right side too long, so I'm thinking I'll just have to wedge myself in, left and right with pillows so I don't move.
I found this video helpful. The test equipment was not uncomfortable. Taping the cannula and oximeter in place really helped a lot because I sleep restlessly.
Very helpful video. I found this to be very easy to use and was comfortable for me. I couldn’t tolerate the CPAP machine. I kept removing the nose piece off in my sleep. They made me an oral appliance that juts my jaw forward so this was to test if the appliance is working.
I wish I had it so simple. My apnea is more obstructive in the throat along with a deviated septum. Started early and kept it on for 11 hours. No trouble getting up and going to the bathroom several times. Completed test ok. ;-)
Well this has been intensely stressful...i was so happy to hear i could do a home test thinking i could sleep better at home but i am now on my 6 failed night, probably going to have to give the equipment back or have a dead battery before it ever works. i have had 3 nights where i didn't sleep at all! just pulled an all nighter (not intentionally) and the other 3 nights i lay awake 3-6 hours just recording me being awake and not snoring. only to realize it was not going to happen and remove the equipment and then passing out in the daytime without the machine. Its now 7:00am on christmas my eyes are burning im exhausted to near tears and am seriously done with this...a whole week screwed up by this test. dreading the fact that i will likely spend tonight yet again awake with tubes taped all over me for absolutely no gain. i have insomnia and chronic pain im starting to think this is literally impossible.
@@savannahzmomma Well i finally got it! The battery did as predicted die from overuse but apparently got juuust enough data to show i breathe shallow and occasionally not at all :| Finally made it work by sleeping in the daytime. Now to see whether or not i'm getting my tonsils removed as they are partially to blame.
I also had a hard time the first night but I figured most of it was anxiety. I'll be trying it again with a calm mind. Let see what happens.

Appearently this thing has no idea if ur sleeping or not...I wore this gadget for about 1 hr., couldn’t get comfortable with all the wires etc...laid there awake and finally said the heck with this and turned this thing off. The messed up part is now they tell me I have sleep apenea yet I never actually slept ...??? Next up a cpap machine that probably idles like a Mack truck
So I performed the test exactly as described in the instruction two nights in a row. The test seemed to have been performed well. But in the morning when I held the power button for 3 seconds like instructed, there was no red or green light in the “Test Completion” area. Super confusing system. I would not recommend this to others.
Agreed I had to take the home sleep test twice both times machine couldn't give a reading..now I have to actually do a sleep test center. And I am so sort of a night owl .sleep center wants me there by 8 pm Oct 3
The belt is hinged. As you breathe in and out, your chest expanding and contracting causes the hinge to move. This is the way the system keeps track of your respiratory rate.
I awoke several times during testing to find that the cannula had slipped out of my nose, and a red light had appeared on the monitor. Be certain to tape the cannula securely, but do not obstruct breathing - ensure that you receive the best possible (normal) sleep that you can get, device notwithstanding.
@@rendonrjr It did. After the full testing period, all of the data was recorded successfully. Should you later move on to a mask test (I used a nose-only mask), please make sure that you have a little bit of play in the mask and strap prior to sleep. I had a 0% leak rate, which was apparently unheard of, but it was very uncomfortable. Allow the mask to slip a bit from time to time and you'll likely sleep better than I did.
@@rendonrjr Yes, it did. I think that the software is smart enough to work with the most basic collected data and extrapolate from that. I'd imagine that the slip off process is incredibly common for this type of testing, and if the process fails, then they would simply schedule a new test. Mine provided plenty of data.
In your video you should tell us if there’s anything we need to do if we get up during the night. Do we keep it running or turn it off and then on again
When I talked to them on the phone, they said it needs to be on for at least 7 hours and to leave it on and running if I have to use the restroom. They said I can take the finger thing off while I'm otherwise occupied, but to leave the rest in place.
Why is this the only comment on this? " Down like this????" Wtf. My provider said that this is the most important part of the test and if the prongs aren't pointing the right way, you might not get a good reading and have to do it over again. This is a major error in this video. Boo ResMed
@@jesseaedon I think you just have to make sure the hose isn't crimped, but otherwise there's only one way to have the prongs inserted into your nostrils, so nothing to really worry about. But the video is definitely weird (and if I recall, the written info says the same thing.) Good luck!
I thought this too but there is a slight curve in the prongs so I think the prongs themselves point upwards from the tube but they should curve downwards into the nostril??

Hey, you really need to do a video showing how a woman would wear this thing. Most men have a flat chest space and women don’t making the instructions difficult to follow. Even if there had been written instructions I’m sure they would have not had instructions to put the thing on for women. Gods blessing for women make it difficult to know where to place it.
I just received this monitor today. Not sure what I'm in for. I do toss and turn. I'm a side sleeper. I was trying to find if I must stay on my back.I hope not. 💤 😴
One thing I find interesting is this video and the instructions from my doctor do not talk about sleep positions. I'm normally a side, face sleeper, and I CANNOT fall asleep on my back. I wonder if this will affect results..
If you tend to sleep on your side, you could rotate the belt so the device is at your side or back. As long as it is able to monitor your breathing, you can adjust the positioning of the machine & belt to fit your needs.
Ask your sleep clinic if they test the unit before they give it to you. I got all hooked up for a test last night, only to have a flashing red warning light appear when I powered on the unit. A loose connection, according to the instructions, would be responsible for a red light. Yet the connection seemed solid and ten minutes of fussing failed to make any difference. I'm fairly mechanically inclined and I had no idea what could be wrong with it. I didn't want to break the unit so I turned the device off, which promptly ended the test. No restart possible, although that wouldn't have made a difference since I couldn't fix the problem. When I returned the device the next morning the tech said the connection appeared secure and could not understand why the light was staying on and failing to allow the test. I'll have to reschedule. A complete waste of time.
The people that hand out these units only charge the units when they are returned. They should do a simple diagnostic whenever they are returned but these people don't care enough to do that. @@gregchavez3855
I am doing this tonight. Hopefully it works. After reading these comments I am not confident. I will be back in this thread to tell you how it went. By the way my wife says I stop breathing in my sleep
Probably the worse sleep i’ve gotten in my life taking this test, if you are a side sleeper or like me and sleep on your stomach then get ready to get terrible sleep in fear that you might end the test from unplugging something.
You're right. I even took two different otc sleeping aids to help. Couldn't sleep due to having the apparatus being uncomfortable (nostrils felt stuffy, had to breath through my mouth. Finger pincher wire, as well as nostril hose were too restrictive). I CANNOT sleep on my back due to bulging discs. Plus I move alot when I'm sleeping. I do not sleep in only one position like a mummy. This test SUCKED. Had to take an anxiety pill in the middle of the night! I finished the hours needed. Gladly took of the darn thing. Now I can go back and get some real sleep.
@@LT-eq2ththis is a very rude and sharp way to respond. I am also a side sleeper and what they mean is that is is uncomfortable for them because they can’t sleep on their side because it might move something. I actually did the test last night as a side sleeper and had the nasal thing come out, so now I need to redo the test. Very rude and uneducated way to respond honestly.
My test failed, will it let me do it again? I don't have to return it until Monday. I turned it off too early, it says leave it on for 6 to 8 hours. :/ I tried it again on Sat. night and it worked. Test complete! Yay!!
I just tried this last night and it was horribly uncomfortable and I couldn’t fall asleep or stay asleep. I was told to place the belt very tightly around my upper waist and it pinched me the whole night. Ive had back spasms all day today in the spot where it was digging into me. And the respiratory effort light blinked red the entire night. The sleep tech told me not to worry about it. Considering that I couldn’t even sleep, I doubt they’ll even find anything wrong with me. Definitely not what I thought it was going to be.
I had no written instructions. Men get to have a proper demonstration on this video. Women get to choose to have monitor in their face or down at the stomach. I chose wrong and have to do the test again.
@Donna Bradford where were you supposed to put it around?? I use mine tonight. I just got texted this video and zero instructions. Picked it up from some tiny office I'd never heard of.
This was a good instructional video. My light turned red n all I had to do was place the finger monitor thing back on the strap. I tested it a couple times n that was it. Don't let the clipped finger monitor fall off the strap that's around your chest. It takes a few seconds for it to turn green. It's not uncomfortable if you do it right. I actually fell asleep tho I'm up now too early as usual. I hope they find something explaining what I'm going through, I woke up to the sound of a fire alarm n it didn't even go off :/ it's my brain telling me to wake up n breathe. I've had dreams of going under water to swim ie holding your breath ie NOT breathing. It's the dream that made me realize what was goin on. Had another dream my mouth n nose were being closed by a freaking poltergeist. Scary stuff when you can't breathe while sleeping
This happened to me last night, So I put it back on but this morning the red light came on under the test complete. My doctor is out until Monday and I need to figure out how to reset the machine and do it again.😢
@@jesset2504 did they tell you what to do? I picked mine up on friday and used it Friday night. But when i woke up to end the test 2 of the outer lights started flashing red. Then i held it again and test completed light was red too. Idk what else to do i slept horribly
@@jcd780 I know it’s late but I hope it worked out for you! I was lucky and they was able to get just enough data that I didn’t have to do it again. I finally got my machine back in February after almost 2 yrs of nonsense. So far it’s been helping but it takes a lot of getting used to.
I have a sleep test this upcoming Thursday. I hope they give me this device because it looks easy to setup and walk around with in case you have to use the bathroom. Some of the other device setup videos looked sort of difficult...
i wonder if they'd still be able to get results if you have to get up and use the bathroom. I'm picking my sleep study device up next Tuesday, don't know if it'll be like this one. Can't sleep more than 2 hours max at a time, hope they can figure out how to help me.
i have all four lights flashing red and can't find a way to fix it myself so i think i may just have to return it to my doctor and try it again. Really inconvenient, has anyone else had this problem?
You need to either create larger straps or provide updated trainings to not give it to people with a BMI over 40. The strap barely fit on my husband, and it messed up the results because it recorded barely any of the times he stopped breathing during his sleep, requiring another sleep study in person.
Used the Apnealink to help diagnose if I have OSA or not. I want a audible cue that the test has stated. Wore the thing all night last night but I forgot to hold the ON button on for three seconds at the start. So it was ON but the test had not started. Obviously when I went to see if test complete it said RED indicator light because the stupid device was not recording. Having a audible cue would have resolved this issue - otherwise two buttons ON and START test. Just dumb trying to have device do two things - need a test running indicator light.
I hardly slept at all with this thing on. So uncomfortable and I have trouble sleeping anyway so that didn’t help. The light was green in the morning though, so I hope it got enough data. Sending it back today.
Check with your sleep clinic or physician who gave you the equipment and they'll let you know if enough data was recorded. If so, you're fine. If not, they may have you try again.
Well, that sucked! I have had a cpap for 14 years, I'm addicted to it. Can't sleep in bed without it. After 25 minutes of waking up about 20 times, gasping for air, I got up and slept in my recliner. I'll let you know next week what my results show. I had zero problems with the equipment, it turned on and off as designed.
What were your results? I'm like you but with a few more years of CPAP dependency. I'm currently into my 5th hour of laying awake with the device strapped on. After my first half-hour of gasping for air, there was no chance of me falling asleep. This test is for newbies & is not suitable for long-time, sleep apnea patients. I'm now interested in learning about the medical efficacy of such a testing requirement. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Wow I'm glad to see someone else with the same issues. 7 years with my machine here, I've been unable to sleep with this thing. Constant waking up. 2 nights of unsuccessful tests now. Was just trying to get a new machine on my new healthcare provider. Severe anxiety with this thing

OK folks.....Insomnia is one thing and can be different from sleep apnea (OSA). I have had 3 sleep studies complete with EEG leads to monitor REM sleep. What a pain. This would have be so much easier than the probes, wires, gel, pulse ox, and the rest. Not to mention the cost of each sleep study to diagnose Chronic OSA.
My red light attached to the finger thing never turned green. It kept flashing red. I tried to adjust the connection but there was nothing to adjust. It is attached properly. Not sure what to do.
Hello Elizabeth, Thank you for letting us know. If the light is flashing red, it may help to detach and then reattach the finger sensor and the oximeter along each connection point, then attach the belt clip to the oximeter as shown on page 4 of your guide, linked here: bit.ly/3IWVOhP If the light still does not turn green after a few moments, you may need to return your device and equipment to the person or company who provided them to you for a replacement set.
Video mentions nothing about Bluetooth devices that may be in the bedroom. Will this cause interference? If so, it should be mentioned in the instructions.
Hello Mary and thank you for reaching out to us. The Apnealink Air device itself does not contain any wireless hardware and thus it's highly unlikely to be a concern for any nearby Bluetooth devices nor should it affect your test in any way.
I finally did the test last night and I'm not sure if my test was successful as when I woke up this morning the top left light was red. When I tried holding the power button for 3 seconds to end the test, all 3 lights instead turned green. After doing this multiple times, I was finally able to get the green test complete light to appear. Did the test restart and erase the data from my night's sleep? I sure hope not!!! It was very uncomfortable sleeping with this through the night and I would hate to have to do the test over :-/ @ResMed
the pulse oximeter that came with mine had 3 delicate prongs and one broke because i tried to plug it in not knowing. pretty much everything today is a straight plug not 3 pronged needle thin wires you have to line up perfectly. its almost like they wanted it to break. A warning would have been nice
I couldn't deal with the tubes in my nose. Hard to fall asleep when something is tickling your nose. It was disconnected when I woke up. I think I ripped it out in my sleep or pulled the hose out because I toss and turn. I had to bring it back the next day or I get charged $100/day. I wish I could've tried it again because now I'm probably going to have to go in for the sleep study
Hello, I recently had a sleep study using the ResMed ApneaLink Air Type III. I have been told I frequently talk in my sleep (somniloquy). Is it possible that some of the events classified as snores could actually be me talking in my sleep?
Hi Samantha, thank you for reaching out. Regarding your question about whether the events recorded as snores during your sleep study might actually be instances of you talking in your sleep (somniloquy), we recommend discussing this with your doctor. They are best equipped and qualified to provide an accurate assessment and address any clinical questions or concerns you may have about your sleep health.
I apologize for not being able to provide an answer to your question. As a company, we can offer product information, but we are legally prohibited from answering clinical questions. It is always best to address such inquiries to your doctor or healthcare provider for the most accurate and appropriate guidance. Thank you for your understanding.
The ApneaLink Air records patient respiratory nasal airflow, snoring, blood oxygen saturation, pulse, and respiratory effort during sleep to help doctors diagnose obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, it is not specifically equipped to differentiate between snoring and talking.. For a more precise assessment of your sleep study data, we recommend consulting with your doctor. Thank you.
Oh that's so typical the sleep cannula came off in the night. I got up used the restroom forgot to pause the test. Yet when I turn the unit off I still got the green test complete light
The ApneaLink AIr utilizes the nasal cannula, pulse oximeter, and effort sensor to record data regarding your respiratory effort, pulse, oxygen saturation, nasal flow, and snoring. It does not have any microphone and therefore cannot register or record any audio input at all. Thanks for asking!
The ApneaLink Air is primarily used to aid in the diagnosis of sleep disordered breathing. It records respiratory nasal airflow, snoring, blood oxygen saturation, pulse and respiratory effort during sleep. It is not designed to detect any muscular issues. Thanks for asking!
Hi Iman, For women, the belt should be worn above the breasts. Be careful not to overtighten the belt, as this would reduce signal quality and comfort. The belt should be secure but also comfortable.
Some folk have no issues with insomnia but I do along with nerve issues in my feet and I found it very uncomfortable, after having the device for 3 days on two separate occasions I was recently told yesterday I could try it again if I wasn’t successful the first time, heck I thought it was a one time one shot deal. Nobody told me I could rotate the box around considering I’m a stomach sleeper. I’m done with it! Not enough data on either try
Thank you for reaching out, and we're sorry to hear about your experience lately. We would recommend reaching out to your doctor to discuss any CPAP challenges or obstacles.
Hello Susan, Thank you for reaching out. To connect the oximeter, first attach the oximeter finger sensor to the oximeter. Next, attach the belt clip to the oximeter. For a visual guide with pictures, you can refer to this link: bit.ly/4ciQJM5 if you have any further questions or concerns, please reach out to the person or organization who provided the ApneaLink and equipment to you.
What does this mean? Did I mess it up? I Tried to end the recording by pushing the power button the next morning, but the test complete light did not indicate either green or red. It was just blank. After pushing it a few more times, all of the lights went on red and then finally the test complete lit up green. In total I probably pushed the button five times.
I just ordered the test. I have very small, narrow fingers. Will the pulse oximeter stay on? I tried a different test in the past, & it didn't register a reading on my narrow finger.
Hi Sarah! Thanks for reaching out! Your concern is valid and multiple sizes are available for the finger sensor for this reason. Please bring this up with the person providing the test equipment to you and request a smaller-sized finger sensor if the one you receive doesn't fit well.
I my case this device is expensive to use (around $250 with $25 a day late fees) and a waste of time at the cost of a good night's sleep. I have been using a CPAP machine for over 15 years and my wife will tell any doctor, or sleep study firm, that when I do not use it, I snore loudly and stop breathing all night long. All this device will tell your doctor is you need to have a formal sleep study done. That study determines what CPAP pressure settings are necessary for you home CPAP machine and costs even more money.
@@HoldenNY22 this is not a sleep apnea sleep device, it is a device used to monitor your sleep to determine if you have sleep apnea. If you already know you have the problem or if you are already using an existing CPAP you should be able to tell your doctor to bypass this step. In my case it was out of the doctor's control and this useless step was required by the sleep study company. It was a money maker for them so why cut it.
Yeah, I imagine this is just a bare basic test to show if you have episodes where you stop breathing. If yes, THEN they will send you to a REAL sleep study. They dont just take peoples word for it. Even if youve had apnea for years. The REAL sleep study is way more complicated and sophisticated and has to be done by a professional sleep expert. It is also wayy more expensive than this. The real sleep study also picks up other sleep disorders, such as periodic limb movement disorder. So, if this thing shows that you have sleep apnea, youre not done. Next step is a real sleep study at a clinic. They dont take you seriously for a real study until you do this one first.
@@CluckyBaby I have heard people doing their “real” sleep study at home. In addition, the cpap device used for this purpose also measures everything this non-CPAP apena air tests for-so I will be insisting on that next, if not an option, my next step will be to select another provider in my network who follows this protocol.
As long as there is enough sleep data to get what they need, there shouldn't be an issue but please do discuss this with the folks you return the machine to and they can assist you from there as appropriate.

Hi Deano, thanks for reaching out. The ApneaLink Air records data on your respiratory effort, pulse, oxygen saturation, nasal flow, and snoring. I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time sleeping while using the device. Please reach out your sleep specialist for further assistance, as they are the most qualified to offer guidance and support in this matter.
After going through the home sleep study, I wish I would have put it on my non-dominant hand. The exterior was rubbery , so it kept catching on the material when I tried to move or adjust my blankets. If it had a smooth exterior, it wouldn't have stuck to the fabric.. or if I had put it on the finger of the other hand, it would have been less bothersome. But I already had the line taped on my other hand, and in my sleep-tossed frame of mind, it would have been more difficult to switch it.
First try with this was a fail, only recorded about 30 seconds. I’m currently doing my retest and the light with the line connected to the belt will flash red for a few seconds and then change to green. This has happened 3 times in the last 6 minutes. Really hoping this won’t alter my results as I don’t think I would be able to sleep during an in clinic study.
Hello George, At the end of a typical test, the light on the device should be either green for a successful test, or red for an unsuccessful test. If it is shut off entirely upon waking, it could mean the batteries have become depleted during the night. If that is the case, the batteries should be replaced, and the device worn again for another night.
We have found the best results can be achieved by sleeping on your back as the key components to the test are the cannula sitting under the nose (to ensure that the airway remains unobstructed) and the effort sensor belt around the chest that detects effort to breathe. However, you should be fine sleeping on your side or stomach, if that is what you prefer. You can simply rotate the belt so the device is at your side or back. It just needs to be able to monitor your breathing.
Ok so I start my test tonight and have to do 2 nights. The guy st the sleep place said that in the am you hold the button and then the test complete light will light up. He then said to remove the batteries and that's it until the next night. So do I press the button a 2nd time until the light goes off or just pull the batteries out or does it really even matter?
I have had sleep apnea for 17 years. For insurance purposes I have to do the home test. My problem is I CANNOT sleep without my cpap or breath at night without my cpap. Why in the hell do I have to retake this test at all????? What a fricking racket!!!!
Hi Rita, Sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing. Test frequency is at your doctor’s discretion. Most doctors and insurance will ask for a new test to see if the same prescription applies or if it needs to be adjusted. This process is similar to an eye exam. We have yearly check-ups/exams to see if vision has gotten worse and make sure eyeglasses stay up-to-date with prescription needs; CPAP therapy is similar, though may take longer to change. Thank you, ResMed Customer Care

Well, I didn't sleep and I am freaking furious. There NEEDS to be a version of this testing system for people who need to wear a mask at night, period!!!! Or Ins. Companies need to SKIP IT and send people to the in-office study straight away, because this is a wildly frustrating, expensive, and unnecessary step.
I’m about to take this test and I just don’t know if I’ll be able to curl up and sleep and I usually do with all this strapped and attached to me. I’d have to be completely exhausted 😮😮😮
This device isn't working. There are broken prongs on the oxygen meter plug. Doctor's office is closed so I hope they can still get info with the oxygen meter being broken.
My experience sucked mainly due to technician failing to explain that the hookups can come loose in the night. He also didn’t explain that if a green light turned flashing red that it meant a disconnection has occurred. It wasn’t recording for several hours. How is a person supposed to know about an unexpected and unexplained problem of an unknown device at 2:30 in the morning? I’m pissed. Also the body temperature monitor came up clipped from the belt. Last thing I would have expected because it felt really secure. Then this morning went to shut it off and it just went dead. Couldn’t push the button 2 times like they said because it was already dead. The oxygen monitor on my right hand index finger is so disturbing my sleep. I had to put it on my left hand ring finger.
Hi Patrick, Yes, however, if the light remains red after properly connecting the equipment, please bring it back in to the clinic that provided it to you and they can help you out. Thank you for asking!
Hi James, We'd recommend reaching out to the sleep lab who provided the sleep test equipment to you as they'd best be able to directly address your question. Thank you.
We're sorry to hear this happened to you! If you encounter any issues with the ApneaLink Air during your at-home sleep study, please return it to the sleep clinic or lab that provided it to you and they can assist you with this directly. Thank you.
This is the first time my husband is using this machine. We're getting a little frustrated as the left lower light on the box keeps blinking red. I try to readjust it, it will turn green for a bit, then goes back to red. Not sure this is going to work or give an accurate result.
It could be your doctors simply want to rule that out as a potential issue; and if you end up also having sleep apnea (because the two aren't mutually exclusive) then again even better because there are various treatment options that could improve your sleep even further.
You should be fine sleeping on your side or stomach, if that is what you prefer. You can rotate the belt so the device is at your side or back. It just needs to be able to monitor your breathing. This is why we often recommend sleeping on your back, since the best results can be achieved this way. The key components to the test are the cannula sitting under the nose - to ensure that the airway remains unobstructed - and the effort sensor belt around the chest that detects effort to breathe. However, y
You should consult your doctor, but a sedative can worsen your sleep apnea. They will sometimes use Ambien or a similar hypnotic, however, because it doesn't affect your sleep stages the way a sedative would.
How long do you need to use it to get results. I used it for 2 nights in a row now for 4 hours each time. When i go to turn it off, i keep getting the red light. Please help
The test often will be complete within a single night's sleep. You'll know once you turn off the device and the "Test Complete" light turns green. As shown in the video (3:17) if the Test Complete light is showing red, you'll need to return the machine to your healthcare provider or the sleep clinic that provided the ApneaLink Air to you and let them know. As per 2:31, if one of the side lights are turning red, you may need to check the connections for that accessories, making sure they're correctly attached and secure.
