Hi everyone! Let me know if you have any questions about the mirror tool in the comments below! (Or if you know how to mirror features into other bodies ;p)
Thanks for such excellent videos...u probably know this already, the 2 bodies need to be “combined” for the 2 top feature holes to be mirrored to the lower portion (single body)...or “join” select when u mirrored from the base rather than “new bodies”
Very powerful tools for drawing and modeling. The one thing that can't be taught and only comes from experience (or formal training - as in learning the way your instructor teaches you) is which technique is better given the circumstance. I have been burned many times when needing to go back and make a simple changes that when completed, the impact everything else after the timeline to the point of almost screwing the entire drawing up creating a lot more work to "patch" those new issues. When to draw in mirrored features during the drawing stage or solid model stage is an art form.
Very good tutorial! Thank you! By the way, by pressing and holding the mouse button you could choose any object under your mouse cursor without hiding everything 8:10.
I think your vids are very intuitive to your audience and i for one appreciate what you're doing...i had a question though what's the difference between using copy and paste and mirror and which one would you recommend?
Coming from Solidworks. Trying to take advantage of this TopDown approach but I am frustrated with Mirroring components of a steel frame. I create a Leg component and mirror that about ZY plane. I get a new component Legs(Mirror). Here is where the frustration is. I want that new mirrored part to mirror the location of the original part. IT DOES NOT. That new part I can drag off anywhere I want. Move it around in the X, Y, or Z. It is more of a copy with an initial placement and unconstrained than it is a mirrored component in a sub assy. What gives!!!!
for info lfeature it is for the timeline at the bottom and instead of hiding your body to select your axis for the mirror just let press on the mouse and you have all that is below
Is there anyway to mirror an existing body? I have a completed object, but a made a mistake, and need a direct mirror, to move a cavity to the other side. It won't let me select my object, using the symmetry tool
When trying to mirror an image formed using sketch, the image has to be 'open' on the mirror axis. If the image is closed, you have to de-select the line that lies on the mirror axis.
Hi there! I noticed that when mirroring bodies, they are not linked. I'm having trouble figuring out how to link a mirrored component. How would I do this? Thanks in advance!
this is when you use the construction plane funtion to define a plane a specific distance from the origin planes. the function is available any time you are in the sketch mode. So, if you need to mirror a body, go to one of the previous sketches that is in the appropriate orientaton and add the construction plane you desire.
No - I took 9 minutes to take a concept and break it down so that new users of the program could actually learn the way that it works. You know...like a tutorial...for people to learn from
