MAFIA CHEATNINJA I have been testing it and to be honest, it’s really hit and miss. I have only been able to capture one reasonable image out of it. I will do some more, but it’s not looking good. I tested night cap app as well and it takes some good shots. So far the camera app is the best. Looking forward to seeing what RAW will do.

Shayne, thank you so much for producing these videos! I am a yank from International Falls, Minnesota U.S.A. Even though I live on the opposite side of the world from you I was in your neck of the woods at one point in my life. I was a US Navy helicopter aircrewman in my youth and spent a week in Geelong in 1976 when the ship we were stationed on (USS Barbey) made a visit. Not only is Australia a beautiful country, but the people were absolutely amazing! Thanks again, I have a 12 pro max and am just learning it.

nightmode with tele is not real tele. its a 2,5x digital zoom from the wide angle lens i dont know why apple didnt allow to use the tele cam natively with nightmode i hope they release an update soon

Thanks Shane. Another good vid. I’ve just upped to the 12 max from the 11. Usually use a top end Nikon but am finding that these new Apple cameras have great potential. Most often process good shots on computer in Photoshop with Topaz and Nik for noise and sharpen. I greatly appreciate your tips. Am a bit frustrated as I live in the hills well in the hinterland of Byron. Hard to find flat ground. Much appreciated.

Thank you for this video. I know it’s kinda old but I just found it. I have a 13pro max and I was at a dark area with my telescope and I wanted to take a picture of the Milky Way and I tried using my phone. I didn’t know that you can change the 3 sec to 10 or to 30 if it was on a tripod. Thank you.

You are awesome! The details that you go into are very helpful, especially the bit about achieving 30 seconds shutter speed by attaching the iPhone 12 pro max to a tripod. Apple doesn't tell you that it's iPhone recognizes and adapts itself when affixed to a tripod. For amateurs like me, I would never have known that. Just subscribed.

I take astrophotos on my iPhone 5s but i use an app called night cap that allows you to take much longer exposures like 1 minute or more, and that’s freaking amazing!

Absolutely. I’ve reviewed and done many tutorials for night cap, it’s a great app for any iPhone prior to the 11.

Thanks! skyview will show you where planets and stars are, but not AR for composing photos. Its a good app for telescope work I think.

Freaking excellent... never thought my iPhone 12 PMx would join me outside with the Celestron in a photographic role. It might be worth experimenting with a bracket holding the phone to the scope for tracking :-) Also thanks for the great demo of the south celestial pole! Also, could the noise you mention during enhancement be related to image compression, and perhaps be eliminated by changing the camera’s file save format to the Apple equivalent of RAW?

Thanks mate. Yes it can join you with the Celestron for sure! Check out an app called night cap app. It will do longer exposures which should do better with tracking than the standard app. Thats certainly my theory on the noise / artifacts. It doesnt look like noise in the traditional sense, its more like artifacts and I think its from the compression as well. I suspect the ProRAW will sort that out. Time will tell.

the southern cross is visible from our deep sky site in the middle of the everglades in Florida. We only see the top and the line, but can't see the stars below the cross. In key west you can make it out clear as day, well at night. That's it for the southern cross.

How does lower aperture affect night time photography? How much better is f1.7 vs f1.8? For low light You gotta put this put against the 4a and pixel 5 Dope videos bro! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

1.7 would, in theory, let in more light. On a sensor this size, I doubt we would notice any difference though. Stay tuned for the comparison video. Its not far away.
