Dr. Richard Levitan, an Emergency Medicine Physician, demonstrates, on a manikin, how to use the Levitan Viewing Stylet with a traditional laryngoscope in the combination technique. He also explains the two-pronged approach to the combination technique described on the Guide Sheet:
PLAN A: IF you get a good view of the glottic opening with the laryngoscope THEN intubate with direct view using the Viewing Stylet as a “blind stylet” to guide the tube.
PLAN B: IF you only see the tip of the epiglottis THEN use direct vision to place the tip of the stylet/tube assembly under the epiglottis and THEN change your view to the Viewing Stylet to view the airway from the tip-of-the-tube while guiding the tube through the glottis.
