Hiya. Love your videos but I've been using Lumos and just a few points to help. I bought spare ink reservoirs so I can keep loaded reservoirs of a few colours in a sealed container ( From Tom's studio). The easiest way to fill them is when they're attached to the nib assembly and that fills the nib too. If you put in a new nib you don't have to remove the while assembly, just the brass bit. A new nib will load from reservoir with no shaking at all, just go make a coffee and it'll be ready. There is a soft plastic cap supplied with the pen specifically to use when disassembling so you don't get ink on your fingers. Personally I think it's well worth the money.

I discovered I can refill my Pentel Pocket Brush Pen’s cartridge with fountain pen ink with a syringe. I used De Atramentis Document Urban Grey. I thought it might dry up or clog, but it’s been at least a year and with very little use and still flowing freely. I was surprised this experiment worked so well. Otherwise, I use fountain pens.

I've been using the Lumos Duo tip pen for 7 months now and it has become my favorite sketching pen. I use Platinum Carbon Black with great results. I added Tom's Cork Grip a couple of months and it makes the pen much more comfortable in my hand. Highly recommended. Yes it is expensive but it a great pen and better for the environment.

I find the same issue and stick to the 0.5mm nib in my Tom's Studio pen. I have the single ended version and the reservoir is massive.

It's nice to have a refillable fineliner. I was wondering if such a thing existed. Thank you for showing this pen to us.

Thank you for doing this review as I have been pondering getting a Lumos… I was not convinced until you said they now have a permanent black. I’ll ask for one for my birthday.

You can use any ink you like, that’s kind of the point

Tom's Studio specifically advise against this - this could be for marketing reasons (e.g. they want you to buy their ink) or they could be telling the truth - so there is a potential risk there. I haven't tested it happy to hear from others who have.

@@TobySketchLoose They sell SKETCHINK for use in their pens now (no idea if they did when this video came out) so that answers that question. 😉 And I've put deAtrementis document ink in mine and so far so good. If it all went wrong you can get replacemant reservoirs and nibs so that's sorted too. Had to be compatible with fountain pens I suspect is the criteria.

Could you have two cotton ink reservoirs? One for soluble and one for permanent ink.

Yes... but not really in the same pen at the same time. The one I has has two ends - so I can have two resevoirs. Eeach with a differnet tip though.

Great review thanks. Obviously, new products can be different for everyone at the beginning, maybe send them your video and suggest a pamphlet or download to help with setting up etc. I do know they have a section with "how to" pages etc...dont know if you read them before or not. Having read through msny of the comments, i do notice a theme of people, not wanting to "change nibs", "faff around" "spend time". This is not a criticism, just an opinion, but i think we have become very spoilt by the easy and, far too abundant, availability of disposable pens. Any shape, nib, width, length, sparkly decor variation, can be bought by the bucket load in a cheap plastic tube. I know, i own most of them. But at the same time, like with your review....a nib might not feel right, or its too scritchy, or too wide (maybe my ADHD and ASD, make this worse), so that pen and all its ink/plastic, become drawer fodderaftera single line of writing. Destined to be used for shopping lists for the next 500 years. Also none of the decent pens for art or journalling are that cheap, you can easily spend £10 a go. So for the price its a bargain, the range of nibs allows testing to find the best ones for your needs (and replace them cheaply too). You can also then use your favourite nib, with colours galore. The team are very interested in improving things too, so think they should have another option....suggest it to them! On top of that they offer repairs to their pens, that are designed to last a lifetime..... So i think the biggest issue seems to be that people have gotten used to the speed of grabbing a box of pens and the unseen costs of the excessive overconsumption the whole world is being subject too. In the longterm, this is not only cheaper and something to grow with. But it surely has to become the new normal if we want to treat our environment with any level of respect.....so why not lead the charge and adapt early. I dont want to come across as all morally marvellous lol, but im so shocked by how we went from save the ocean from plastic in 2021, to temu and tiktok shop, selling useless mini plastic versions of everything and overconsumption to the extreme in 2024. With attention being limited to 15 seconds, i worry longterm thinking and purchasing is being lost. Waffle over 😂

Very very nice. Too pricey for me at present. Thanks for the review. Certainly one to keep an eye out for. 👍 Weird how b4 the environmental movement, natural foods and refillable items were far less expensive than processed food and throw away items. Such is life.

Does the nib stay wet and draw immediately after sitting for say a week or does it dry up/hard start?

Problem is I don't want 11 different tips - I just want the 0.3 - that is the one I use for drawing and the one I like the best. A pack of purely 0.3 (or any other size it seems) with the pen doesn't seem to be an option here.

I think the problem came from the fact that the black ink was diluted with the water you had just used to wash the reservoir…

They do now have some pigment archival inks on their website, that you can use with the fineliners....I think it's just the brush ones that they say it's not suitable for
